Use Portis, our best offensive player like the Chargers used LaDanian at his best, and how Brian Westbrook is used for the Eagles. Pass him the ball, play action fake to him and then pass him the ball, etc., as well as the hand off. I think last year the Eagles beat us by just handing the ball off to Westbrook or throwing him check down passes, 90% of the time. But if a guy is as good as Portis, passing plays should be designed for him being the number one option.

Max protect if the O-line can't block. Go deep to Moss on 1st down sometimes. Quick slants and 10 yard in-and-out patterns to Cooley. TEs are supposed to be able to take hits from linebackers.

In other words : "Abandon the West Coast Offense entirely"? You don't max protect in a WCO.

Making the back the primary option on a passing play and max protecting doesn't exactly work together. We just need to continue to learn the system that's been chosen and take our lumps until progress is made.
