So what DID the Giants really do to us?

The more I go back and mull over the loss to the Giants, the more I realize that the game was not as bad as it seemed. Unfortunately, first impressions are everything, and thats what happened.

The Giants come out firing on all cylinders and scored their ONLY touchdown on the opening drive. The Redskins went three and out. So there we have it, the Giants looked poised and the Redskins were just horrible.

As the game went on, the Redskins could never really get things going consistantly on offense. The Giants regressed. The Redskins defense tightened up. We were able to creat pressure and even cause a turnover.

The Redskins were finally able to score before the half. Unfortunately, that was it for the day. Neither team scored after that. The more unfortunate part was that the play calling and clock management was awful at the end of the game for the Redskins and they could have potentially done more to get close to tying the game.

But at the end of the day, the Redskins were able to hold the Super Bowl champs to 1 touchdown. The number one defense last year, the Steelers, averaged 16.8 points allowed per game. So to only allow 16 points to a team that has more cohesion, and played better was something to be proud of. The defense was even able to cause a turnover.

At this time last year we had barely beat the Dolphins in similar fashion to the way the Giants beat us. JC had thrown to INT's and no TD's. We were a field goal away from going into overtime.

So my question is, what did the Giants really do to us? The question is what we did to ourselves. And as far as i'm concerned, the things that went wrong are correctable.

They came out with more intensity. The Skins didn't seem to have any urgency. Thats it. It was going to be tough for any opposing team, going into the Meadowlands. No, 95% of the Skins fans don't see it that way. They rather stomp their feet like a little kid because mommy didn't let them have a toy they saw at TOYS R US. Its 1 loss. All the mistakes can be corrected.

They manhandled our DL an OL.

The most important thing in football they did, they won the battle that mattered the most, the one up front. They didn't need to keep scoring points the game was never out of their control.

I disagree. The game started swinging the Skins way but the Skins didn't take advantage of mistakes the Giants made. The Skins started pressing the Giants WR's in the 2nd half. Eli had trouble with making his reads. Eli is lucky. He could have easily thrown 4 interceptions. The Skins didn't take advantage.

Considering we have done MUCH worse up there and we are a team in transition, I don't think it was as a bad of a loss as it seemed.

Obviously the both the o and d line's need to play much better. JC needs to make some quicker decisions, but all things considered it was not as bad of an outing as many thought.

I was very upset at the loss. I get upset at every loss. That said, when I sat back and looked at things on the whole, I realized that we have a new coach and new offense. It is going to take time for things to click. Would be nice for things to be great from the beginning? Of course, but its not realistic. Now if the team is playing the same way come week 8, I will start to worry.

And thats the right approach to take. Its not even right, its just the reasonable approach.

I felt the same way, but then I remembered that the new system was not necessary. Everyone from Snyder on down preached continuity after last season, and the team returned 21 of 22 starters. Why start over?

From a defensive standpoint, the score looked OK, but the Gints O-line dominated at the point of attack. The Eagles and Cowboys O-lines looked great yesterday, so Skins fans have a very good reason to be worried.

From an offensive standpoint,. the Skins did nothing. They were completely unprepared for the regular season, with motion penalties and blocking assignments missed. I hated the performance of the O-line. As well as Jasons decision making skills, which were non-existent. The only bright spot was Portis.

I said this in another thread before the Giants game and I still believe it: for the 1st half of the season our defense is going to have to carry this team. We can't expect the offense to go out there and light it up early in the season. It's not gonna happen. We need to make strides each week offensively and pick our spots when we're going to let Campbell stretch out his arm and go for the big play. Otherwise, we need to get the ball in the hands of Portis.

We have to hope to be .500 after 6 games and then go on a run. I don't know if it's in the cards right now.

By the way, it doesn't bode well for us that the Bears and Panthers just won at San Diego and at Indianapolis......those could be big wins in the wild card picture late in the season.

From what I've watched of these WC offenses in the past, when they're not firing on on cylinders, they can look silly and out of place. However, (and luckily for the Redskins) there is a fine line between the two. I think JZ realizes we are not there yet, but we are close. I'm looking for a break out game, and my guess is it comes in week 3 or 4. Just a hunch. But rather it happens like that or not, this team will show improvement as each week goes by (barring serious injuries) and should finish hot.

It could be against the Saints. I mean, the Saints secondary is not that good. The defense is not even close to being as physical as the Giants. Really need to apply pressure on Drew. The Skins know they got off to a bad start.

What gets me is the Redskins showed what they are capable of the first couple of games in the preseason. We know its there, JZ has to bring it out of them.

The silver lining in the Giants fiasco is the defense adjusted to the Giants offense. Of course, if the game were closer, I wonder if the defense would still be as effective. Desparation makes for better play and the Giants were not desperate by far.

But the offensive line was attrocious. Redskins aren't going to win too many games with that kind of performance, West Coast Offense or not.

The Redskins could have won this game had they executed better on offense. We lost this game because there was no continuity on offense. The defense played good. I didn't like the way Plaxico Burress made Carlos Rogers look like a pop warner cornerback, but I did appreciate the effort of the defense. If only the offense can crank things up a few notches and play at a higher level, the Redskins would do better.

I actually had to DVR the game because I had class and got to watch it after reading all the comments on here and I have to agree it really was not that bad. My biggest concern was JC's lack of decision making ability. He just seemed like he was thinking too much instead of reacting. Maybe he was just nervous with the new system I dunno but we will see over time how that improves. The defense looked pretty stout holding the giants to 16 points. Brandon Jacobs is a beast and is extremely hard to tackle and its hard to cover Plaxico without our best corner. We still made Eli look like his old self, we just did not capitalize on his mistakes.

And honestly I wanted to punch John Madden in the face when he said Landry will never try to tackle Jacobs high again. Im sorry but if Landry got any lower, he would have been crawling on his stomach. Jacobs just got as low as Landry and Jacobs is 265 lbs with a full head of steam. If he had hit me like that, I would have not only flown backwards, I would have crapped my pants in the process!
