I vote on policy, not personality. Despite election year pandering, it's fairly clear from their histories where each candidate stands on the issues.

Frankly, I have a hard time understanding why anyone wouldn't have their mind made up, unless it's because he or she is agonizing over conflicting priorities (like being pro-life and anti-war or something).

It's not like we can trust anything new as being genuine, anyway.

I think partly this year it is because so many things are in so much flux.

What happens in Iraq?

What happens with gas prices?

etc. etc. etc.

If Iraq continues to progress well, then that makes my vote easier. If things don't, then I become more torn, and at that point, I'd actually have to hear what McCain was saying (as is I'd love for him to come out w/ some comments about the importance of the Iraqis standing up on their own in the near future and the need for DRAMATIC decreases in American casualties).

If somebody actually steps up and does something about energy, instead of talking about what they will do that influences my decision.

I mean really, do you think I haven't put significant energy into learning about the candidates?

I guess I just don't see why it would take significant energy. McCain has a 20+ year voting record. Obama's less, but he still has a voting record to examine.

I see what you're saying about shifting situations adjusting priorities, though.

you dont think the mortgage crisis is hurting the middle class and destroying peoples lives?.......... you dont think that those who are suffering because of predatory lenders arent living at a lower level than they were before they lost their home?

you dont believe that there is a substantial change in the quality of the average americans life in the last 8 years?

i dont need STATISTICS to see what surrounds me....

Statistics to support your claim? In the past 8 years I have seen my friends around me become extremely successful. My best friends have built large homes for themselves and none of my closest friends have lost a home due to unwise investments

Now, you made a claim that the middle-class is shrinking while the lower-class is growing. Prove it! Support your claim!

I haven't made up my mind yet. I was leaning heavily toward McCain before the primaries. I always liked Obama, liked him much more than Hillary. I would abhor the idea of Hillary Clinton as president, I'd hate it more than our current president.

I've always wanted it to be Obama vs. McCain for president because I have a lot of respect for both. I voted for Obama in the VA primary because I wanted the election to be between him and McCain. I couldn't be any more happy about our upcoming election. I'm going to wait for the debates before I make my deciscion.

I will wait for the debates before I come up with my deciscion. I voted #4.

Fair enough. I'm pleased with your decision, because each person that doesn't vote makes my vote proportionally more important. :D

I've had this idea for some time.

Seems every election year the TV stations do these PSAs where they'll get some celebrities to talk about how voting is a civic duty and so forth. (And people ignore them.)

I've had this idea, that what they should do is get people that people hate to make those commercials. Like, try to find the head of the KKK.

Let him tell people "Your vote probably won't matter anyway. Stay home. Let me decide."

I think the person I'd want to see next would be Jessee Jackson or Al Sharpton. Then Rush or Ann Coulter. The heads of the NRA and the ACLU. There's lots of political celebrities who know darned well that a lot of people don't like them, and wouldn't mind some air time.

Decided on McCain once it was clear Ron Paul had no shot

Primary issue for me is the fiscal future of this country. Obama seeks to add another entitlement and add to our mandatory spending. McCain doesn't

Iraq will eventually end. The credit crises will hash itself out. The business cycle will tick up

But in 20 years, will 30 percent of our GDP be going to Medicare, Medicaid, Universal Healthcare and SSI or will significant changes have been made?

Obama clearly will not be the one to risk any change with a cherished New Deal entitlement (although any change to a new deal program will HAVE to come from a D President and Congress for the political cover to exist to pull it off)

This election sucks. I know who Im voting for and will not change unless he is caught with a dead hooker or something. That being said I cant stand either guy but I have picked the lesser of the evils in my eyes.

Do you mean that Obama's not worth voting for or that he can't win?

Hate to take this off-topic.......

My beef is with the institutions of this country, a vote for Obama ( or any other politician) is simply a mirage for "choice" or "change". It's putting lipstick ( Obama) on a pig. Sure it may it look prettier, but it still stinks and is ugly.

I'll say it again if there was a democrat that was against gay marriage & abortion running for president he/she would win in a landslide....

:rotflmao:

yeah, that's just what we need, someone who will tell us how to spend our money and what are acceptable bed-practices.

And the pig in this charming analogy is the USA?

Observation:

Folks, we (including myself) are getting away from "have you made up your mind" and wandered into "why are you voting for Mr Right" and "your reasons are stupid".

I'm thinking we're getting more confrontational. (Including myself.)

Voting against Obama.

:applause: QFT.

I'll vote for McCain. No question. I like that he's a moderate, I REALLY like the fact that his son is out there fighting the war in iraq (no more crazy parents on the president's doorstep with the cliche: "You don't know what it's like, what if Jenna or Barbara were out there?!!?"), I love the fact that he doesn't use his son's service as a campaigning tactic, I love that he is a war veteran, I love that he has military experience, and I believe he is the best man for the job.

I also think Bama is really shady.

McCain '08!!!

Really?

I am opposed to Universal Health Care, and trivialization of what will occur by just walking out of iraq.
