No Fun League = Broken Redskins Tradition?

I was just thinking, after going through the Redskins Mount Rushmore thread, that the NFL's new rules about, well, everything, would kind of ruin a lot of our traditions.

1) The Fun Bunch: I know that we've talked about it before, but that high five is unsportsmanlike conduct.

2) Darrell Green with the Tootsie Roll: Not exactly a uniform standard. $15,000 for a candy? Whatever floats your boat.

Err, well, I can't think of many more, but can anyone else add to this?

What about Monk cutting the sleeves on his jersey? :yikes: That would get a fine nowadays for sure. It only takes one bad apple to spoil the whole bunch. Honestly, I hate the stupid Ocho Stinko and TO celebrations anyway but that's just me.

Yeah, jumping up on the camera platform is just CHILDISH. It screams "LOOK AT ME!"

I'm SOOO glad we didn't trade for him

You're right, my bad.

Celebrations like the Fun Bunch are chemistry-building, positive images for the league. Think of how many fun bunch posters were sold back in the day!

It's just the new (sharpie-pulling, camera riding) celebrations that i dislike. And the league sees these as detrimental. I agree with you OP, that its too bad there can't be some reasonable guidelines to preserve the positive aspects of celebration.

I love the middle school humor in throwing around the nickname Ocho Stinko. I'd take Chad on my squad any day of the week. He's 100x better then any reciever we have on our roster right now.

so a cornerback could cover 100 santanas before he could cover #85? Interesting

It just feels like we lose out on stuff like that. Let the players have fun. Who cares if it's obnoxious? Who cares if it's not EXACTLY like the uniform? I know that they're professionals, but they're still PLAYING a game.

Good for you. I like it too. Tony Homo is a good one also. As are cowgirls, cuwturds, fecals, midgets, aints, etc, etc, .

Congratulations. I'd be embarrassed for my team if anyone acted the way he did. I don't care how good he is, the end zone celebrations and the HOF jacket and all that really get on my nerves. I didn't mention him to hijack the thread, I mentioned him because he's guilty of causing the recent crack down on overzealous celebrating. But, since you guys are boyfriends, tell him I called him Stinko and that I’m glad he's not on our team. ;)

Hey Chief express your creativity. By the time your done with creating nick names and finsihed with your coloring books your day must be pretty full.

Other then the TD celebrations you have no ground to stand on. The guy had 93 receptions 1,440 yds and 8tds. At least he's in the endzone to celebrate.

I read something recently about the league mandating that a team choose whether footwear would be black OR white at the start of the season, and stick with it. Is this also subject to enforecement? What about kickers - do any of them still have two different (and different color) shoes?

Personally, I don't see a problem with a bit of uniformity (they are uniforms after all), but view some of the restrictions as asinine wastes of time.

BTW I loved the post about Monk removing the NFL logo - classic!!!

I think some of it has to do with the intent. Are you trying to rub someones nose in it? Or are you just celebrating a great play? I think the reason they have to police it so much today is that the physicality of the game has been diminished by all of the rules that have been implemented for player safety and the fines that go out for breaking those rules.

Because of this things can't be "handled" on the field by the players anymore. In the 60's what would have happened to a TO or CJ the next time they came through the short zone after a rub it in your face celebration if Butkus was playing that zone?

I promise you they would think long and hard before another celebration like that.

But that's not todays NFL.

I think that's an awesome point. Remember when Owens celebrated on the Cowboys' star, twice? Then one of their players came over and laid Owens on his ass?

I hate that team, but damn, THAT is certainly the self-policing that I'd like to see more of.
