Hubbs
We need CP to be a leader. I think he's ready. On the other hand, I really hope he wears a few costumes again this season.
skinsince72
One thing that worries me though if we have a "growing pains" season with the offense, we may be throwing the ball a lot in the second half of games. That would mean less reps for CP.

PleaseGoForTheWin
"He could emerge as the Redskins' version of Shaun Alexander, the Seahawks' do-it-all running back. He was the league's MVP in 2005..."Ha, I remember a similar paragraph written when Saunders came here from Kansas City, in reference to LJ/Priest. Me, too. I also recall the 2,000 yard talk then, too. I think Portis will be successful for a few more years, but right now it's all talk, talk, talk. He's an excellent back, but he hasn't looked elite since the playoff run in '05.

I was one of those guys but I think the passing game that will be implemented will truly open things up for CP more than Saunders' system ever could. This article was refreshing and I'm glad to see him taking on more responsibility. I've said it once and I'll say it again, CP will have his best year (YPC,probably Yards, maybe TDs) this season. ucfSKINS
It just shows people his dedication and maturation. I was never disappointed with the Chump/Portis trade. A little skeptical at first, but after his first run as a Skin? And seriously, just watch him block. My favorite Skins: CP, Cooley, ST (RIP), and Smooooot. BthatRAD09
2,000 yards? it sounds awesome, but what is the basis for this reasoning?
Gary@Redskins.com
2,000 yards? it sounds awesome, but what is the basis for this reasoning? Need to comment in general on this, as it was called out on another message board as well. I am not suggesting that Portis could rush for 2,000 yards. But the possibility was suggested by running backs coach Stump Mitchell earlier this offseason during an interview with Larry Michael. So I was not making this up. Mitchell said it. Do I think Portis could rush for 2,000? Don't know, but I hope so.
PCS
It would appear then, that Coach Zorn and Coach Mitchell both like Clinton Portis for this offense and believe he will flourish in it. Clinton certainly seems to be buying into this as well and that could mean a very good year for he and the Skins. It will be interesting to see how man TOTAL yards he ends up getting in this offense. Now that could be a big number in its own right.
Sawyer5500
I already told my dad and brother this..i wanted to call the players who are going to have a big year next year and Clinton was at the very top of my list. Hes going to have a career year, i can feel it. I'm predicting about 1,600 rushing yards with another 400-600 in receiving. And in case you were wondering my top 3 players who are going to have great years were: 1. Clinton Portis 2. LaRon Landry 3. Phillip Daniels (I think Daniels gets about 8 sacks this year)
steamroller#99
I'd be happy with 1300 yards if it comes with double digit touchdowns. Clinton is going to get a chance to get more catches this year. He is going to get his yards. There is no doubt about that. It comes down to getting into the end zone. He's had plenty of end zone dances the past 2 years, and if that continues, thats the most important thing. We're really going to see a 3 dimensional Portis this year. Running, catching, blocking. It shall be a sight to behold.
CounterTrey75
This line almost gave me a heart attack! "Portis senses a "looser vibe" around Redskins Park with Zorn in charge." I initially read it as, "Portis senses a "lOSER vibe" around Redskins Park with Zorn in charge." Silly me.

tone_dubbz
It has been suggested that Portis could approach--or even surpass--the 2,000-yard rushing mark in 2008. Only five players have accomplished that feat in NFL history. "It's a great goal," Portis said. "A lot of people have put it out there and they think I can accomplish it. For me, it's whatever it's going to take for us to win. If for us to win, it's going to take me running for 2,000 yards, then I look forward to that. If they're going to put it on my back, I'm all for it." Not this type of talk again. Portis is my boy, but they said the same thing when we highered Al Saunders and his dynamic running game. I'm all for it, and hope that he does have the opportunity to do it. I'm just saying, this ain't the first time I heard it.
leesburgvaskinsfan
I'm also excited about how CP is stepping up. If he, JC, and the OLine can stay healthy.....whoa baby, it's going to be fun to watch!!! Come on September!! Hail!
bikie
I can appreciate portis' support of zorn and the new attitude, but I think he is really underestimating what wanting to win so bad for a coach did when they were in the hole late in the season and put together those amazing runs to the playoffs... hopefully zorn will command the same commitment and faith from the team when the odds are against them (most coaches don't)... Dick Edds
I would love too see Portis break the 2,000 yard mark but I don't think he will. I forsee a 1600-1700 yard season. But hopefully he proves me wrong. That said, Portis is one of, if not the best, athlete on the team and having him be a locker room influence will be huge this season. CP is def my fav Redskin on the team (next to Cooley) and he could very easily get 2,000 total yards, if he is used in the passing game, which I think he will be. Dude, your sig hurts to watch, but it is pretty damn funny nonetheless. HTTR!

That would mean less reps for CP. that's the thing, CP doesn't care as long as we are winning. He has always been about winning and not personal gains. That's why he is, was and will be a true leader for this team. he could give a rat's ass about stats, he's happy to lay the wood all day long protecting JC and others. If we lose he will be unhappy even if he rushes for 200 yards and 2 td's ... I believe that's the kind of guy he is. HTTR!
