Puke fans' spin: Bill Parcells isn't raiding the pukes. Davis sucked, and we didn't want him anyway. We don't have any issues in the secondary. The sun is out. Everything is okay. We will win a playoff game this year.

Dallas Cowboys unrestricted free agent strong safety Keith Davis will visit Miami today as he seeks more playing time.

The special teams captain was tied for third on the Cowboys with 18 special-teams tackles in 2007 but rarely played on defense. According to Davis' agent, Curtis Stephens, several teams are interested in him, including the Cowboys.

Yeremiah Bell started the first game of 2007 at strong safety for the Dolphins but tore his Achilles' tendon and missed the rest of the season. Miami used several safeties after Bell was hurt.

A spin from a non-closet 'Boys fan:

Davis excels at special teams. With the salary and playing time he is looking for, it might be in the best interest of both the club, and Davis, if he moved elsewhere. However, would love to have him back if he is comfortable in a backup/special teams role making money that is proportional to his role.

No, we had to let Keith Davis go because Jerry Jones doesn't have any cash. He suffers from liquidity problems.

It's a much better theory than: "The pukes don't need anyone because they have no holes."

On a more serious note, this speaks pretty highly of Davis. This is the same guy who got shot outside a club twice, and subsequently cut from the team, twice. And now the guy who cut him (Parcells) is obviously ready to bring him to his new team. He must see something in Davis, or think he's learned his lesson, to bring him in. Even at the vet minimum, he's more expensive than adding a rookie for special teams. I think he may even have a shot at starting in Miami, which he clearly doesn't in Dallas. Heck, he'll get on the field after Hamlin, Williams, Watkins, and maybe even Courtney Brown. Whereas in Miami, he just has to beat out Yeremiah Bell.

Good special teamer, pretty good in run support (even tho he seems a little small to play SS for 16 games), he can be a spectacular hitter, but like every other safety in Dallas (seemingly) sucks at deep coverage responsibilities.

Another thing that might be relevant, have you seen the deals Gibril Wilson and Madieu Williams got? Maybe a guy with 5 years in the league that will sign for less than an 8-figure signing bonus is a pretty good value right now.

Give Parcells credit for identifying a role for this kid. Davis also took the advice to heart. I remember Parcells talking about Davis during press conferences, stating that he had told Davis that he was never going to be a star and that he needed to focus on finding that niche that would make him have a longer career.

At the same time, you can find players of Davis' innate ability in the draft and free agency. There's no point in keeping him if he has reached his potential and the only thing that will go up is his salary.

Love K. Davis.

But just can't justify investing that much money in the safety position.

We're already screwed with the Williams contract. And Hamlin will be extended sooner or later.

Watkins will have to step up, as he did somewhat this season. And then we have the draft to groom his replacement.

I'd love to keep him, of course, but you can't keep everyone unfortunately.

Man, you are really losing it. Do you really think that letting Davis hit free agency is some act of arrogance? Wow...

Then again, this is coming from the same person who thinks Jerry Jones doesn't have enough cash to be a big player in free agency.

Keep flexing that intellectual prowess of yours, tr1. You are doing great!
