HOLD THE PHONES... Mariuccu has not interviewed yet

Two problems with the "the interview will not take place until sunday, right before kick off" theory:

(1) Mooch presumably will be on the air all day Sunday, working for his present employer, the NFL Network.

(2) Our illustrious owner is known for his 10-12 hour interviews.

Will there be a head coach before the season starts?

It would make it difficult for our first opponent to gameplan against us if they dont know what offense we will be running.

Then again, I guess we wouldn't know what offense we would be running either.

Maybe the plan is to just take the field for the first couple of games, and run wind sprints for 60 min.

You have to think there may have been at least telephone conversations .. the entire interview on Sunday thing makes little sense if it is going to be anything meaningful ... However...

...it would be a huge media moment if at the end of the programme Mooch signed off with the announcement that he was going to be going back to coaching as head coach of the Washington Redskins

It is indeed Buddy and he's in my sig because tomorrow will mark the 49th anniversary of music dying. And the quote is from a Charles Grodin movie in the 80's :)

I like it. He was the first guitarist I really liked, very underated musician unfortunately. More talent in his pinky than Elvis' whole body IMO.

PHOENIX — Steve Mariucci will end days of speculation about his interest in becoming Washington's next coach by interviewing with Redskins owner Dan Snyder and executive vice president Vinny Cerrato here before Super Bowl XLII tomorrow.

The 52-year-old Mariucci was 75-71 in nine seasons as coach of the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions, making the playoffs three times.

He has been an analyst for the NFL Network since the Lions fired him during the 2005 season.

Mariucci would follow Jim Schwartz, Gregg Williams, Ron Meeks and the current favorite — former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel — as candidates for the vacancy created by Joe Gibbs' retirement on Jan. 8.

Coincidentally, Mariucci's last playoff victory came against Fassel for the 49ers in 2002. It was also Fassel's final playoff game.

Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo could be interviewed next week.

Although the Redskins' 25-day coaching search has been lampooned nationally, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell took the opposite view yesterday.

"The process has been quite good, quite thorough," Goodell said.

IF Mooch gets the job and he didn't interview until AFTER we already put assistants in place, then I think we're in trouble. Danny, you can't go out hiring assistants YOU think will be the perfect fit BEFORE the HC gets a say in it.

This is distressing. I really hope that Snyder will keep his distance and let our next HC do his job.

It's a longshot about Danny, but I hope so too ...

At least Mooch coached in Green Bay with Blache and also coached the WCO under Holmgren in GB as Zorn did at Seattle. I'm sure he could live with both of them.

There still might be a rabbit in the hat we havent thought of or suspected yet.

I find that hard to believe. I'm surprised no one has came up with thinking of suspecting that Dan paid someone to somehow extract DNA from Lombardi and clone him so he can be interviewed as well. Can't wait til free agency where we can move on to the next think to blow out of proportion.

Everything I've read said he interviewed last Wednesday and was scheduled for another interview yesterday before the SB.

I'm just not quite sure what to think anymore.

What a merry-go-round.
