richhilljr
Just not enough to trust him on who his successor should be... Did Gibbs hand-pick Petibone (sp?)?
Skins26
Anyone find it funny that the media gets bashed on a daily basis here at ES, yet everyone hangs on their every word as if it means anything? Well the media is our only source of real information so its kinda not to hang on every word when its the only word we're hearing.
Larry Brown #43
Did Gibbs hand-pick Petibone (sp?)? Bad comparison. When Gibbs retired the first time, our team was aging and on the decline. It became clear very quickly that we wouldn't become good again until we underwent a major rebuilding project--something Gibbs had no interest in sticking around for. No coach could have won with the team at that time. The current Redskins are different. We have a team that's on the upswing, that would clearly benefit from continuity. Gibbs was right that Petitbon DID deserve a chance when he retired the first time, and frankly Petitbon deserved more of a chance than one season. We actually ended up with an even worse record the following year, which was Norv's first season. To me, that showed that Petitbon deserved more of a chance. Regardless, I feel you're comparing apples and oranges.
skinfan4ever
After yesterday, there is no point listening to anybody until there is an official statement or press confrence by the Skins.

The roster had some age, but bad personel moves by Petibone and Casserly (see dumping Mark Schlereth and letting Clark Monk and Sanders all go)along with Petibone's choice to bring in Rod Dowhower and run a West Coast offense is what torpedoed a playoff team. He also went along with the fans and installed spinmaster Reggie Brooks as the RB over the more consistent and productive B-Mitch. He was the classic example of a career assistant who wasn't HC material. He didn't get a raw deal. They won one less game the next season while starting rookie QBs. youngestson
Isn't Meeks cover-2? Not excited about that. Clayton spoke to that a little with Rex and to some extent Meeks. He said that good coaches, and he feels they are good coaches know how to adapt to the players they have, and that Snyder as an owner understands what he has as a team and will look at coaches accordingly. Clayton also felt that the cap problems are really not a problem and can be fixed by restructuring a handful of contracts. He also felt the Skins had decent talent and did not have to go with a rebuilding. And finally, the Skins were in better shape then several other teams in the league. Dude. Speaking of revisionist history... Norv/Casserly axed Monk AFTER Petitbon was fired (probably more so Norv's decision). Petitbon did not axe Monk. One of the first questions Norv was asked when he was hired was what he planned to do about Monk. Norv also cut Schlereth after coaching him for one year in Washington. Petitbon didn't cut Schlereth. And Clark never had a 900-yard receiving season after leaving Washington. I firmly believe that Gibbs would not have left after the '92 season if he felt the team had any chance of success. praise_gibbs
My list of hopefuls in order: 1) Gregg Williams (He was always my choice to take over for Gibbs. In fact, he is probably the only coach that I would feel comfortable with after Gibbs decided to step down. Did I mention that the players want him?) 2) Bill Cowher ( He would be my best choice if GW decides not to take the job. Or, if he is ****ed out of it. ) 3) Ron Meeks (I have been high on this guy from the get. I feel all he needs is the opportunity and he will flourish.) 4) Die Hard (Seems to be well liked in the kiddie coaching ranks ) 5) Jim Schwartz (I must say, it would be fun to put a true meaning to the saying, "May the Schwartz be with you.") 6) KDawg (Fresh into coaching, seems to have the fire to be successful) .. .. .. .. .. 999) Jim Fassel ( "Jim Fassel? Are you ****ing kidding me?") 1000) Dr. Phil ( Can you imagine the pressers? Not only would he tell us WHY we lost. He would explain to us what losing does to our self exteme. and give us ways to cope with each loss.  )
