Pros: In '99 prior to the season, made several excellent value pickups: Marco Coleman, Andy Heck, Keith Sims, Larry Centers.

Pretty sure that was Casserly's work as he was let go just prior to training camp of 99'. That means Cerrato has even fewer positives than the few you were able to list.

Can someone list out the good moves he's made versus the bad. I see so much vitriol spewed his way and I don't know why. Someone please alleviate my ignorance with some well based facts. I see lots of "he doesn't know anything about football" type comments, yet he worked for San Fran for ~9 years. He must know something. Has he had any real control and decision making authority while here? I'm just not privy to the inner workings of the organization. Maybe someone who is can shed some light on his short commings supported by fact and not message board conjecture.

you must know nothing about football

I know how not to be insulting to people I don't know. I know I'm a fan of the Washington Redskins, not Vinny Cerrato. Thus, I wasn't familiar with the details of his past experiences. I know that no matter how much we fans think we have things figured out at Redskins park, we truly have no clue how the inner workings operate. I know that it is better to learn the facts before jumping to asnine kneejerk reactions. I know that responses such as yours only pollute this message board and we'd all be better served if you found somewhere else to post, if that's the best you can do.

Face it, they really dont have a clue.

But everyone needs a fall guy, and everyone thinks they can run the redskins better.

Just people being the sheep they are.

So people having opinions have to be sheep?

You base this on what? The fact that only you are not fuzzy or sheep like?

Or you like Vinny? If so fine, tell us why.

I don't despise Vinny.

When he got here, I wanted things to work out. I was no fan of Charlie Casserly so I certainly hoped that Vinny would be an upgrade. He's been here long enough and I think we all have seen the results.

But I think as to why seemingly everyone is not a fan (to put it mildly) of Vinny is pretty simple.

1. When he joined the Redskins back in 1999 he had been fired from the 49ers and was out of the NFL. So naturally as a fan, you'd find him to be a suspect hire.

2. When looking at the state of the 49ers after he left, one was not filled with great confidence or anticipation of Vinny repeating his "accomplishments" of SF here in DC.

3. Fired immediately by Marty in 01 and the only work he could find was with ESPN. Again, it makes you realize what other NFL people think of the guy.

4. Snyder brings him back the second Marty is axed. Snyder promised Spurrier Bobby Beathard and then springs Vinny on him. This was when it became clear (or at least it's the impression) that Snyder and Vinny's relationship is based more on a mutual friendship, rather than Snyder hiring him because he feels that he's actually the best man for the job.

I have no animosity towards Vinny. I just don't think his track record is very strong and am frankly more steamed at Snyder for the state of this front office and his insistance on hiring less than the best and brightest this league has to offer.

I think you need to familiarize yourself with a guy who has been here since 99 when snyder got here nothiwthstanding a brief hiatus...before you start your verbal diarhea

Cerrato is not bad. He's had some average drafts. He was instrumental in bringing Brandon Lloyd here, which has not panned out to well...at least so far. Under the current ownership with no GM, it appears that Vinny doesn't know as much about talent as he thinks. The question is, what is the difference between an executive vice president of personell and a general manager? How many other NFL teams have a EVPP? The title to me even sounds like nonsense.

dude you sound like a fudge packer from texas...you must be a cowgirl from texas...and an in the closet cowpoke fan...why dont you get off the board..

Well, my kids were talking as I typed that and I hit reply instead of the report a post link. The crap for posts comment was meant for a mod since all your post did was contribute to all the crap posts we're suffering through. It's the mod's I feel sorry for, for having to continually deal with the likes of you who feel the need to post snide comments instead of actually talking about or debating a particular post. Now you can go back to feeling big about yourself for calling a stranger on a message board a fudge packer.

I am starting to turn on Cerrato tonight after reading La Canfora's article about him torpedoing Gregg Williams because of their "icy" relationship. So, one guy has the power to deny all of us and the players the coach we want to see get a chance to lead the team. If nothing else, this confirms our worst suspicions about the isolation of the owner and Cerrato in this process.

I read your post. You are comparing the number of players still on the team from 2000 and 2006. And you call ME an idiot? That's against the board rules by the way. Do you need me to quote them to you?

Good teams draft and retain players over a 7-12 year period, so it is not absurd. It is also not an exact comparison, as I noted, but the statistical difference is so glaring it more than compensates for the time difference, and makes a very powerful point.

Oh, please, snivel and read me the rules.

LOL and YOU call ME an idiot. this is fron the NFL Players Assn. site:

How long do most NFL careers last?

The average length of an NFL career is about 3 and a half seasons. Although there are some exceptional players who have long careers that extend 10 or twelve seasons and beyond, most players only stay active for about three seasons. Players leave the game because of injury, self-induced retirement, or being cut by the team. This also means that while players may make more money than most people, they are only making it for an average of three and a half years. To make sure they are successful in the future, players must invest their money well and make plans for another career when they can no longer play football.
