I have been saying this for years. Any fight of any significance has been on PPV for the last handful of years. The casual fan does not get a chance to know the fighters. People are not going to pay for people that they are not familiar with.

There is Zero truth to this statement. There have been an absolute ton of meaningful fights on both Showtime and HBO the since I really got back into boxing in 2004. Actually (in my opinion) I'd say the est fights have been on regular HBO and showtime and not pay-per-views. Price aside...I'm always much more satisfied with the cards that come on HBO and showtime than I am with pay-per-views.

SUPER SIX TOURNEY UPDATE!!!

Dirrell out of Super Six

By Karl Freitag

Andre Ward will have a new opponent on November 27 after Andre Dirrell pulled out with an alleged undisclosed injury. Ward and Dirrell (former Olympic teammates) were originally scheduled to meet September 25, but no agreement could be reached between the respective camps and the bout was rescheduled for November 27. Ken Hershman, Executive Vice President and General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports, said today that Ward’s fight will go on as scheduled against an opponent to be named and a decision wil be made whether that fight will be a part of the tournament or not. Win or lose, Ward will advance to the semifinal win or lose based on tournament points he has already earned. Dirrell’s departure makes the November 6 Super Six bout between Allan Green and newcomer Glen Johnson even more significant as the winner will likely advance to the semifinal.

Andre Dirrell Update

Gary Shaw: Right now he's not right

By Karl Freitag

“I’m very disappointed,” promoter Gary Shaw told Fightnews.com today regarding Andre Dirrell’s withdrawal from SHOWTIME’s Super Six Tournament. “Andre has some neurological problems and we’ve been advised by a neurological specialist that for the present time Andre cannot spar, nor can he fight until he is symptom-free. We’re going to be going for further testing. I just pray and hope that everything is alright for Andre Dirrell and his family.”

When asked when Dirrell’s symptoms appeared, Shaw responded, “During that Abraham fight he took a pretty good shot and he was kind of scattered that night. I don’t know for sure, and I’m sure not the doctor, so I don’t want to say when this appeared or reappeared. All I know is right now he’s not right.”

Finally: Jan 29 2011 Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley Jr.

This has been a really weak and disappointing year in boxing....and it would have been spectacular. Super Six could have gone as planned, Alexander-Bradley could have happened, Shane Mosely could have actually shown up for the Mayweather fight, Mayweather-Pacquiao. What an absolute crap year! At least we have Rafael Marquez vs. Juan Manuel to look forward to.

I hope 2011 is better than 2010 for boxing....definitely on the right track with the Alexander-Bradley fight

GB, don't forget about the Punisher-Martinez rematch :box:

hopefully they'll get the decision right this time....Martinez got robbed last time. I'm almost compelled to root for him (usually root for guys when they get screwed over) but Paul is actually one of my favorite fighters, so I can't do it.

Boxing fights on both HBO and Showtime tonight.

HBO has Zab Judah vs. Lucas Matthysse (IBF junior welterweight eliminator)

Robert Guerrero vs. Vicente Escobedo (lightweight)

Showtime has Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Rafael Marquez (WBO featherweight championship)

Super Six World Boxing Classic: Glen Johnson vs. Allan Green (super middleweight)

My Predictions for tonight:

Zab KOs Matthysse in 10.

Guerrero by UD over Escobedo

Marquez KO's Juanma in 12.

Johnson by SD over Green.

I don't have much interest in the HBO card tonight

Johnson is finally starting to show his age, but Green is a front runner, as soon as he faces adversity, he folds up shop. Johnson should be able to take Green's shot, and eventually break him down over 12 rounds for a unanimous decision

really looking forward to Lopez/Marquez, easily one of the best fights that can be made in boxing today. I think both fighters will find themselves on the canvas before its over. Marquez's combinations should present some problems for Lopez, but I'm thinking that Lopez's power will be main difference in this fight. Lopez packs a heavy shot, and I think he'll finish Marquez late. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Marquez wins though, regardless of the outcome, its virtually guaranteed to be a great fight

Well, since this thread is up and running again...

What happens if Pac loses?? Even his trainer thinks he's slacking off a bit.

I bet, by the slim chance, Pac does lose. Old Floyd will be on the gun to get a fight going.

Seriously though, this fight is such a slap to the face of real fans. Pac vs Margarito...pssst

Its like Del la hoya vs Ricardo Mayorga. Waste of Money if you ask me, I'll catch the fight over the internet.

Margarito is a cheater. Plain and simple. Who knows how long he had been cheating? Miguel Cotto isn't the same after the beating he took from Margarito. Neither is Kermit Cintron. Cintron is scared to get hit by anything, anyone. Definitely won't be paying for this fight. As for Floyd Mayweather, eventually, he'll fight Pacquiao. He has too much "self-inflicted" drama going on in his life (his uncle's trial, his potential trial). There's too much money to be made when they fight. Besides, Margarito isn't beating Manny. Bob Arum won't allow his #1 money maker to lose.

Bob Arum doesn't care if Pacquaio loses, he just wants to make sure if he does lose, its to another Top Rank Promotions fighters. I highly doubt Pacquiao will face anybody other than a Top Rank Promoted fighter in the future. (he's already saying he's ready to retire anyway)

i'm not buying that card for 3 specific reasons:

1. undercard isn't that good

2. margarito is a piece of ****

3. the fight won't be competitive

I'm buying this card for 3 reasons:

1. to watch pacman whoop someone's ass

2. to watch margarito get his ass whooped

3. because i'm having a fight party at the house

I always root for Manny but I actually think Pac will lose to Margarito. It just seems like one of those "Buster Douglas" scenarios and Pac is really pushing it with the upper weight class fights. Antonio might just be too big and strong. I know the entire planet earth will call me crazy but it just seems like it's time for Pacman to lose. :whoknows:

Shane Mosely destroyed Margarito because he was much faster than him, Pacquaio is faster than Mosely.

Margarito is going to be hit and hit alot
