Vick Letter from Jail

Tulane Skins Fan

Kind of sad to see it in his own hand...it's easy to demonize the guy when you don't see him as a real person.

Wilbon is pretty good at it. It's easy to cast that first stone. Our judgement tells us that if someone does one bad thing, they are forever a bad person.

The guy bankrolled a dog fighting ring, bet on the dog fights, and then leant a hand in brutally torturing and killing the dogs. At what point are we allowed to say he's a disturbed human being? Seems to me that's 3 things, not one, and more than enough for me to pass judgement on him.

I truely hope this letter is sincere and that he has seen the err of his ways; but to say that his past actions aren't worthy of heavy scorn is ridiculous.

more than not you make me laugh. i sure hope your holier than thou ass never does anything wrong because karma might just throw the book at you....

You act as if he cheated on his girlfriend. You are DAMN RIGHT I've never organized an illegal gambling ring across state lines with the main focus being torture of animals. You are DAMN RIGHT that I haven't once convicted engaged in drug use and lied to the officials I promised to aid as part of the plea deal that REDUCED the time I should have gotten for all those darn laws I broke.

You want me to post pictures? I certainly am willing to show you how stupid what you are saying is.

He used "espouse" incorrectly. You've used "holier than thou" and "hypocrite" incorrectly. I'd suggest dropping it.

I guess nobody's heard of casting the first stone.

Matt 7:2-5 "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged [if we judge with an evil heart or dark intent, His judgment of us will reflect it; if we judge nobly and honestly, His judgment of us will reflect that, too], and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you [if we use extremes or exaggerations or other unfair means, our judgment will reflect it]. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye [point out his sins, "minor" in Jesus' example here] and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye [our own sins, even and especially those we will not admit, magnified by our selective blindness]? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' [tell him of his "minor" sins] when all the time there is a plank in your own eye [that there are greater or the same sins in our own lives which we do nothing about or think we are above]? You hypocrite [pointing out the sins of others while by pretense we think of ourselves as above sin], first take the plank out of your own eye [sincerely ask the Lord for forgiveness and learn and live the Truth and Light by His Word], and then you will see clearly [be in a righteous position] to remove the speck from your brother's eye [to judge and to help him out of his bondage to sin]." At Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan, Jesus was talking to the multitudes gathered there after hearing of His message and of His healings to beseech them to not become like the pharisees and hypocrites who think they are above sin.

Adj. 1. holier-than-thou - excessively or hypocritically pious; "a sickening sanctimonious smile"

pharisaic, pharisaical, sanctimonious, self-righteous, pietistic, pietistical

Judge not, ATB, judge not. I'm surprised, however, that you were unable to "espouse" my meaning with those expressions.

Give me a break. We've all done bad things, but I bet most of us have never done anything remotely as savage and cruel as what Vick did. I'm not saying that the punishment fit the crime, but to label people "hypocrites" is to imply that they've butchered dogs, or done things equally as bad.

By your very own, excessively liberal, definition of hypocrisy, you are guilty of it (because you pointed it out in others).

Damn, how many definitions do I gotta throw at you?

hy·poc·ri·sy /hɪˈpɒkrəsi/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[hi-pok-ruh-see] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun, plural -sies.

1. a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess.

And sorry, but pointing out hypocrisy doesn't make me a hypocrite. Nice try though. Most of Vick's haters probably didn't even bat an eyelash when OJ, Ray Lewis, and Pacman got off. But damn, kill a couple dogs and beware the wrath of God. Hypocrisy.

:ciao:

Actually, I believe OJ should have gotten the death penalty, Pacman and Ray Lewis deserved long prison sentences, and Vick deserved every minute of his 23 month sentence. You see, one can actually believe in all of those things at the same time.

You clearly missed the part where he mentioned that you criticized me for using a word's definition loosely yet did that yourself on two counts in this thread. That is the definition of hypocrisy.

OJ is scum and should have been put away for life, Ray Lewis should have gotten worse but its not unusual for a guy to get off easy by testifying against his cohorts, Leonard Little should have gotten a minimum of 20 years, Pacman probably should get a sentence similar to what Vick just got, and Vick probably should have another couple years tacked on to his sentence. Also, Marcus vick should be forced to share time with his brother on principle ;)
