RonBurgundy&Gold
I'm not buying it. He's sorry alright - sorry he got caught. First, he attempts to blame the dogfighting on his upbringing in Newport News. BS. How many people grww up in a rough environment, but didn't go on as adults to break federal laws? Then he attempts to blame the pot smoking on depression and his father. BS. How many depressed people turn to a bong hit to solve their problems? He (and his lawyers) were stupid to send this type of letter to the judge. How was it stupid, how could it hurt his situation? I don't think he blamed the dogfighting on his upbringing, he simply stated that where hes from it wasn't looked up on as a big deal. I would imagine that to be true. How many times have you heard about people getting busted for dogfighting? As for how many people look to weed for depression, try millions. He could have been a pothead before all this started, but still thats an uninformed thing for you to say. I've never been a Vick fan and feel he should do time just like anyone else, but I don't see how you can pick apart anything he wrote in that letter. When you've already lied to the FBI and violated the terms of your plea agreement by smoking pot, sometimes it's best to keep your mouth shut instead of cranking out a 5 page rambling letter. SkinsHokieFan
Anyone read George Foreman's letter and start laughing uncontrollably? "Former two-time Heavyweight Champion of the world, and known all over the world as the king of grills because of the George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine" LOL P.S I love the way he lists his life accomplishments right after his signature. I was cracking up with the George Foreman part Micheal Vick is one of my favorite athletes of all time, for obvious reasons, and I hope he gets his life together when he gets out. I am in wait and see mode though, he has 23 months to think about it and hopefully his actions reflect his words

Enter Apotheosis
This won't stop the "holier than thou" hypocrites from chucking stones at him, unfortunately. I can't believe he got two years for this BS. In order to be a hypocrite wouldn't someone have to be condemning what he did while fighting dogs themselves? How many depressed people turn to a bong hit to solve their problems? He (and his lawyers) were stupid to send this type of letter to the judge. Exhibit B He grows up poor as hell, surrounded by trouble, with nothing but the ability to play the game of football. Then he gets there, the NFL and what does he surrund himself with? The same trouble and ends up doing the same stupid ****. What an *******. It's not like he was teaing it up and winning superbowls, he was barely a starter(the money kept him in the starting rle(not to mention the lack of somebody you know is better)) and he is out starting interstate gambiling rings, based around dog fighting. What the hell did he ever do for you(besides play at the school you went to) that you can't see just how bad this clown ****ed up? Regardless, Vick's charitable deeds FAR outweighed the deaths of a couple mangy-ass mutts.

Christ, as big a case as it was in the public eye, why not just fry his ass and show the rest of the world just how wrong dog fighting is. He could rot in there as far as I'm concerned. d0ublestr0ker0ll
Regardless, Vick's charitable deeds FAR outweighed the deaths of a couple mangy-ass mutts. They didn't have to be mangy-ass mutts. Talk about holier-than-thou. Humans are animals, just because we luckily shot to the top of the food chain doesn't make it right to brush off other beings of the planet. You wouldn't want dogs with more intellect than us to throw you in to a cage with two 2 inch daggers against another guy of your size. There weren't any "winners" of these dog fights besides the scum that laughed and won money while it happened. Vick needs to be put away, to merely show children that even the huge stars can't get away with stupid crap like this.

Head
I still can't believe all the idiots who are saying 23 months was too harsh  I was a huge Vick fan when he played at Tech, and wanted him to succeed against everyone but the Skins in the NFL, and after hearing the things he did, I was hoping for 3-5 years minimum. Anyone who says 23 months is excessive for the sick **** he did, is just as sick as him IMO.

truckedbysellers
Level of agreement 100%. Dogfighting is cruel, heck it's evil. Vick's punishment however is excessive and unreasonable. Dogfighting is cruel... Electrocuting, drowning, beating to death, and torturing dogs is sick. There is no place in society for a POS like Vick. I'd be happy if the state tacked on another two. TrumanB
Don't ya though? Just think what these folks would have gotten if they were also financing and running an illegal gambling operation. I betcha they would have gotten more than 23 months. You know, this letter that Vick wrote is a joke. Who is he really trying to fool? Why should anyone believe him? His actions speak a lot louder than his BS words. Here are his actions: Action 1: completely deny any involvement in this dog fighting operation Action 2: lie to your boss (Falcons owner) and the NFL commissioner about it Action 3: after getting ratted out by his partners in crime, agree to a plea deal Action 4: break the 2 conditions of his plea deal: 1)cooperate with the FBI 2)don't smoke pot But, somehow, we're supposed to ignore all those things because he wrote a letter about how his sad upbringing was and how daddy made him smoke dope.
Enter Apotheosis
Don't ya though? It doesn't seem to me that the justice system is as concerned about the animals so much as it is the cruelty. If you prove yourself capable of that kind of sick behavior, you get punished. The degree of cruelty rarely relates to the actual length of the sentence. Doesn't make much sense... but very few things in our justice system do.
