Okay I bought, played, and beat both Assassins Creed and Mass Effect in fairly quick fashion. I plan on trading in one if not both soon, along with Gears of War. I'm planning on getting Call of Duty 4, but I'm tempted to get Guitar Hero.

First off let me say I've never played Guitar Hero, but it looks like a game I could like. I'm guessing you can't rent it because you need the guitar controller so I'd have to buy it.

What are the positives? What are the negatives? Is it worth the money? Should I get the first one or just get the most recent?

Don't sell Mass Effect back. The DLC will add replay. Unless you didn't like the game. :)

As for Guitar Hero... do you like games like Dance Dance Revolution? In San Andreas, did the dancing sequences and car bouncing sequences bug you, or do you like trying to hit the right button in time with the music? Because that's all Guitar Hero is. You pick a song from the list (make sure you browse the song list, and like the songs, because you play them a lot), the colors for the buttons pop up on screen, and you try to hit the right button with the right timing.

Now, it sounds simplistic but, if that's your thing, it can be highly addictive fun. It can make you feel like you're playing guitar (especially if you know nothing about guitar). I spend hours playing it (and Rock Band) with my girlfriend and her sister. The challenge, for me, is in trying to play at higher difficulty levels, but just playing through a song on medium can be both relaxing and fun.

Again, make sure you dig the songs. If you aren't a big fan of the music, the game is going to get old really quickly.

And... if you don't have the time, desire, or proficiency to learn guitar, get Guitar Hero and/or Rock Band.

Or get both (a real guitar and the video game version).

Guitar Hero and Rock Band are fun games and worth playing - if the game play is your thing. You don't have to skip on the game because real guitar is more rewarding. It doesn't have to be either/or.

I play football with friends. Outside (way more fun). And in video games (still fun).

Well, I can't sell you on Guitar Hero but I can tell you the following:

- I love it. It's rare to come across a game that is just a blast to play. And for me at least, Guitar Hero is one such game.

- I have yet to show this game to someone who didn't enjoy playing it. Hell, my MOM comes over and plays it, and she had never played a video game in her life before this.

- If you are trying to decide which one to get it depends on your taste. Of course, each game has a different list of songs, which you can find on wikipedia, so you may want to get the one that has the most amount of songs you like. In terms of difficulty, each game is harder than the last.

- Guitar Hero is the easiest, and Guitar Hero III is the hardest. That said, all three games are easy enough to play on easy and medium difficulties once you get the hang of playing the game. It's the hard and expert levels that are progressively harder in each game.

- One more thing: it is real fun playing the game alone, but where it really shines is playing with or against someone else. Of course, that means you would need a second guitar controller (yikes) but it is definately worth it. If you have people that play games with you that is even more of an incentive to get this game.

Hope that helped.

Just buy it and thank us later.

Guitar Hero 3 has the Halo Theme Song too, i'm just sayin.

If you want to learn the drums in real life, buy rock band and play the drums on extreme, you can go right from those drums to being able to play drums quite well in the real world.

screw getting a real guitar, everyone does that **** now, be unique :)

Don't get Guitar Hero. Rock Band is the way to go. I can't stop playing that game. It has guitar and bass like Guitar Hero but also drums and vocals. When you get bored of one instrument just move to another. This game is particularly awesome when you get three other friends together and rock out with a four piece band. I'm not joking, Rock Band is the best and most addiciting game I have ever played and new downloadable songs come out every week so I never see myself getting bored of this game.

EDIT: I also have Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero II Rocks the '80s, and Guitar Hero III for PS2. I have beaten all of those games and loved them but I can't see myself every going back to Guitar Hero, Rock Band is just a much better game.

I am getting rock band for x-mas, and I live with 3 other people = perfect.

I am guessing you have it on PS3, because my band would take yours online ;)

Holy ****. Rock Band has drums? I've been waiting for a "Drum Hero" game for forever. That's badass. I heard that it was like $100 for the whole package though.

Guitar Hero is the stupidest game you will ever play.

It is also remarkably addicting & insanely fun.

Thats how it was sold to me, and it's true.....

QFT

It's just fun to play and that is really what youu want out of a game.

Are Guitar Hero and Rock Band available for Wii? I'm planning on getting a Wii after the holidays...

Wii has guitar hero... but not Rock Band (maybe in future but don't think it has been said yet)

Kinda long but I put this in another thread, it's comparison of GH on all 3 system

Just a little heads up on the Wii version: It lacks the dolby digital that it advertises as of right now. New disks will be coming out early next year, but as of right now, any copy you pick up for the wii will have the songs in mono. I knew it beforehand, but I picked one up anyway. The new disks will be free, of course, to anyone that bought the mono version.

Other than that, though, it's a really fun game. The missed note sound coming from the guitar via the wii remote is cool, as is the vibration for hitting star power. I also like the tracklist and the fact that they are for the most part all the original artists.
