Kosher Ham
I would send a PM to SSM. Look at it this way. You can get a 4 door sedan for 15-25 k from just about every car maker. The ones that cost more typically have features and prestige that the others don't. Spyware alone might be the biggest selling point.

Also if you know anything about computers and the internet you wouldn't have to worry about spyware and viruses. RedskinzOwnU
You're getting a package that runs like a package. All the pieces are meant to work together. You're paying for the software, you're paying for integration, you're paying for ease and functionality, and you're paying so you don't have to use a ****ty windows box. But even if you really want windows, you can load that up on it too. Now, that being said, the high end macs tend to be a bad value as far as bang for buck. The lower end ones are MUCH cheaper and not that much slower. So, the real question is - why are you looking at the macs that cost $2500?
Novus
What makes this worth $2500?all that hardware can be bought for $600 Why are macs so overpriced? edit: that processor is $700 :yikes: Bought a MacBook last year. I bought it because I love my iPod and needed a new computer. I'm now officially a Mac snob. They are just amazing machines. A great mix of style and substance. I mean... if you want to build your own computer, obviously you're going to save money. And it does seem like with Macs you pay a bit of a premium to own one. So what? I complained about my PC and about Windows every other day for 5 or 6 years. My complaints about my iPod or my MacBook running OSX have been minimal to non-existent. I'll never own another PC. gstahl
What about this is not an Apple bashing thread? You honestly do not care about an answer this is simply your way of saying you do not like Macs. That's cool, please go out and get that $600 PC, no one will have any problems with that. I am totally happy with my MacBook Pro, works like a champ and I will never ask you what makes your PC worth $600.
JMUClark47
they are overpriced, but i can't get away from the software. I have PowerMac G5 and a Macbook...but mainly because i'm a graphic designer and video editor. They are overpriced, yes, but I still love them. But to answer your question...maybe its the software and user interface more than the hardware.
Blackest Eyes
I love macs but I agree that they are slightly overpriced. But if you think of how much software is coming pre-installed that isn't useless, it makes the price look a tad bit more justifiable.
rachievegas
I personally don't know why it's $2500, but the case is pretty, heh. I still own, and use my iMacG4 as my primary computer, and it's doing pretty awesome, even though it's "old", in computer terms. I think Macs are reliable and I've never had a problem with mine. .. my Dell on the other hand... I want to smash it.

Mad Mike
2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon “Woodcrest” processors $719 EACH - The Mac pro has 2 (or 4). And if you think it's "just a case" well this is not for you. 4 drive bays and up to 16 GB of ram. http://www.apple.com/macpro/gallery/qtvr.html I agree though. It is an expensive machine. So how about this one?... http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=7B723646&node=home/shop_mac/family/imac

What I don't understand is how Apple gets away with such blatant overpricing. I mean you can get a higher spec PC for less than half the cost. Bottom line is that while Macs are more expensive, they use quality hardware and the operating system is top of the line Try comparing your $250 laptops hardware with a bottom of the line Mac. My girlfriend has a Dell that was like $600 and it is built like crap. Made of cheap plastic and low end hardware. Apples computers come with a ton of useful pre-installed software as well. How much useful pre-installed software was on your $250 laptop? Did it come with anti-virus and anti-spyware software too? Do you have to pay an annual fee for your anti-virus software? Mac users don't have to pay a yearly fee for that. Why? Macs very rarely get viruses, if ever. Macs are far more stable computers and soooo much easier to use and enjoy. I switched to a Mac when I entered college and have not looked back. Yeah I miss not being able to play some games but with the new Intel Macs you can run Winblow$ games on Macs via Crossover, Bootcamp, Parallels or VMWare fusion. Macs just work straight out of the box just like the ads say. Try one. You may end up liking it.

Why is that its always "crashes and viruses" that mac owners always resort to in justifying overpriced and underachiecing hardware? If you knew anything about computers those things would not happen. I have never gotten a virus because I don't open email attachements from people I don't know and I don't click every pop up banner. If people were just a bit smarter you wouldn't have to deal with any of that. My computer (which I built) is overclocked like hell and it never crashes, freezes or any PC related "problem". Incompatible with a lot hardware  dude, you're using a mac! PC has the most support and compatibility. You can't even play games without messing with bootcamp etc. And good luck playing any modern games with a 7300gt. Hell everytime I install new hardware and updating the driver I never see "mac driver". It just does not have 1% of the support a PC has. Hell even Linux has more support. My $225 laptop came with everything I needed to get online; an operating system supported by many open source programs. All I need to make use of my laptop is openoffice, winamp, vlc and firefox. I got NOD32 virus protection for free and a 2 year subscription. So I am not paying anything for "useful" software. The only reason Macs are more stable is because you don't have nearly the adminstrator options. Also most of the problems people have with PC's is 95% caused by the user (PEBKAC). So it comes down to paying a lot more than you have to because you can't operate a PC without messing it up whereas a mac just "works".
Henry
I have two PCs at home and a Mac at work. Macs are much better, faster, easier-to-use machines. They never crash. You never need to de-frag them. There are no blue-screen moments. Everyone has a PC though, and the internet is much more PC freindly. So that's what I buy. But if I needed to do high-end graphics at home, I'd get a Mac. No doubt.

DGreenistheBest
I have always used a PC at home. I have a Mac at work. The Mac is basically that one in the OP post. It's very fast and I enjoy using. I can totally see why people think Macs are better. I could even run Windows on it if I wanted to. That said... My next new home computer will be a PC. Sorry, I just don't find it to be that superior. I don't think the operating system has nearly the level of control as Windows and the compatibility issues are a major drawback for me. Also, its true that Macs do not crash but individual programs on my Mac crash often. More often than my 5 year old PC. This Mac is 4 months old and I get programs locking up on me daily. The spyware/virus argument is silly. The more people that buy Macs, the sooner you are going to see a lot of viruses on them. They remained immune for so long because nobody used them, not because they are so much more secure. Also, the headphone jack on my Mac is a joke, but that's just an aside. Bottom line is it depends on what you want. You want out-of-the-box ease of use and intend to use your computer for things like graphic design, a Mac is the way to go. If you are more in the mood for a computer than you can manipulate to your liking and are looking for better performance across a broader range of programs and applications, you have to go with a PC. Mac is better at what it does, but PC does more. For the money, its not worth buying a Mac to run Windows if you can just get a PC. Mac's mouse sucks too. chiefhogskin48
Macs are trendy. They are "easy to use." But the people I know who use them have also had major issues with them. Thankfully, the warranties are good. But I don't think they're worth that much money. The new HPs are great. Word to the wise: stay away from Dell!! With those, you truly get what you pay for. G-Prime
Spyware (Idiots get and keep Spyware) Viruses (Idiots get viruses) Blue Screen of Death (Maybe 8 years ago, I haven't had one since Win98) Incompatible with lots of hardware (I run vista and have hd zero issues with hardware or software) Driver issues (You're grasping at straws or watch too many MAC commercials, this isn't even an issue anymore, unless you buy something 10 years old and then that's your fault) Can be difficult to navigate (Are you for real?) XP SP2 Crashed my PC when I upgraded after it came out...lol (Judging from what you've said so far, I tend to believe that was more user error then program error) Launching Apps on a Mac is easier than in Windows (You're still clicking a button, WOW it's SOoOOOO much easier... Still grasping at straws here) Drag and Drop on OS X is freaking awesome unlike Windows (I have a MAC too, it works the same) Windows Media Player<<<<<<<<<<<<<<iTunes (for Music sure, for anything else not even close) The list goes on... (No it doesn't.. Cuz so far only thing you've proven is you are full of ****. To the novice your little list might look impressive, to people that know, know yeah this guy is full of ****. I could care less, I'm not a fanboi of either.. I have and love both PC and Mac (Hugs his G4), I also run SuSE linux and FreeBSD. It's really about preference and affordability. Each system can be used to accomplish the same thing. I do like that I can get into and manage all my linux and freebsd servers from mac and the interface is nice. I can do the same thing on Windows, just doesn't look as good.. Games tend to do better on my Windows box then on my mac, if there is even a Mac version of the game I want, which is becoming less and less of a problem, but the games still "look" better on my pc. It's about what you like period.
