does this help Monk?

Nope. I don't think you are wrong for asking this at all..

I had thoughts that Monk would get in regardless. Now, with the light of this ST tragedy, it sure won't hurt his chances.

It is a shame because Monk should have been in the Hall in a long while ago. I just don't want people to claim that the only reason Monk got into the hall was in pity instead of because he was a damned good player.

I heard somebody mention this in my section at the game. Now that I think of it. I wouldn't be shocked to see both Art and DG make it this year....and this maybe making it easier for voters to have two guys from the same club at the same time. I can't imagine how depressing it is at the Park these past 8 days.

Art Monk had 940 catches, 13721 yards, and 68 TDs.

Cris Carter had 1101 catches, 13899 yards, and 130 TDs.

Andre Reed had 951 catches, 13198 yards, and 87 TDs.

I agree their numbers are better than Monks; however, for the era in which he played Monk was a top tier WR and had the record for most receptions in a year. He also played for a team that was run first and he was a very good blocker. One thing he has that the other two do not is a Super Bowl. He actually has three.

Nobody's going to claim anything. Everyone's going to say that Monk should have gotten in a long time ago. The vast majority of people outside the voting room (and most of the people inside the voting room) believe that Monk deserves to be in.

Monk is 2009...

Darrell Green is a LOCK for 2008 and they won't send 2 Redskins in together...

Besides...getting Green in will shut most of us Redskin fans up for a year.

2009 will be very difficult because Bruce Smith, Shannon Sharpe, Rod Woodson, and John Randle all become eligible that year.

2010 brings Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Tim Brown, and Aeneas Williams.

2011 will add Marshall Faulk, Curtis Martin, Jerome Bettis, and Deion Sanders to the list.

We're also going to start running into the final years of eligibility for guys like Randy Gradishar, Bob Kuechenberg, Fred Dean, and Ray Guy, and there will be a push to get them in. There will also be some momentum for Paul Tagliabue, and there could also be a sympathy vote for Derrick Thomas.

...if Monk doesn't get in this year, we might be looking at 2012 or later.

It didn't help an NFL official decide NOT to charge a personal foul unsportsmanlike conduct against a grieving team and head coach trying to just win the game for Sean Taylor's family.

Instead he says "Sure, when do you want to call the timeout?" and then proceeds to the middle of the field where more than one of them decide to throw the flag.

Now I'm no official but it seems to me to be a bit harsh on a grieving team when no one would have been the wiser if you'd had just said no you can't do that.

That's pretty much what a normal human being would have done under the circumstances and yes I'm 100% sure it would have been done to a few *cough *cough..league favorite teams.... ESPECIALLY under the same set of circumstances.

For those of you who want to know how bad Joe Gibbs wanted to win that game for Sean's Family..go back to the Arizona game..Rackers was set to win the game with a game winning FG and the Skins had 2 timeouts left. JG elected to not ice the kicker at all. But this game after Seans Death he tries to do it twice and the refs screw him..go figure.

Way to go NFL...your a thing of beauty!

This MUST BE the year that Art Monk is inducted. It's a crime that he's not in the HOF already. And to have crackhead Michael Irvin who had zero class get into the HOF before Art Monk is a grave insult. Let's hope the people who votes for this thing does the right thing this time and honors Art's effort on the gridiron.

Just because a player died is no reason to not have to break rules. Also, you might have noticed that the refs weren't going to penalize you guys until Jauron said that the rules said they had to. The refs didn't screw him at all. Jauron just made sure that the penalty is enforced (and don't say that Jauron is a jerk for wanting the extra 15 yards because thats just dumb).
