Prosecutors: 17-year-old pulled trigger

Last updated on: 12/4/2007 5:57:08 PM by NBC2 News

MIAMI: The Grand Jury indictment of four Lee County men accused of killing NFL player Sean Taylor reveals 17-year-old Eric Rivera was the one who pulled the trigger.

The four were formally charged with first degree felony murder and armed burglary with an assault and firearm on Tuesday afternoon.

The indictment also indicates suspect Jason Mitchell was wearing a mask or hood to conceal his identity while committing the crime.

Mitchell, along with Charles Wardlow and Venjah Hunte, was denied bond in a Miami courtroom Tuesday morning.

Prosecutors also say the three men are on what is called "suicidal precaution." Prosecutors said that after being evaluated by a doctor each would be under suicide watch and all three were wearing equipment that prevented them from hurting themselves.

Each suspect appeared separately before the judge via closed circuit TV. The judge denied bond for all three and they are expected to be back in court for their arraignment on December 24th.

Hunte, Wardlow and Mitchell are expected to plead not guilty.

Rivera, the alleged triggerman, is expected to be in court in Miami Wednesday morning, according to his attorney, Wilbur Smith.

Police say a fifth suspect could still be on the loose.

Authorities say the suspects broke into Taylor's home early November 26th, but that the killing was unplanned because the four didn't think the football star would be home at the time of the burglary.

Yeah, that's why you walk in there with a loaded weapon. Because you thought the house would be empty. Right.

Just give them all 75 years and let's move on.

Yeah, it's all over the news. The other three denied bond.

All four are under suicide watch and they all were wearing bullet proof vest to their arraignment. God forbid they get killed before their court dates. Two things can happen.....one, they get life and Bubba introduces them to prison rape, or they get the death penalty. I'm kinda hopin that Bubba gets four new biotches!

how could someone that young do such a horrible act

There are younger which do more horrible. I won't list them but a simple search on crimelibrary.com will illustrate to you the evil that humans are capable of doing.

I told you that they would put the shooting on the 17 year old, as the Supreme Court recently ruled that death penalty applied to anyone under 18 is unconstitutional (not sure how you can be sentenced to life without parole after being charged with an adult if that's the case but anyway.) Then the other ones can try to pretend they had nothing to do with the murder.

And wearing a mask in commission of the crime? Come on. Wouldn't shock me if this was a planned home invasion but of JACKIE and the BABY and Sean was the only one who wasn't supposed to be there.

Don't count out the possibility that they actually were there to tie up Jackie and force her to open safes or other locked items.

I agree. Why is anyone even accepting this as truth? And when I say anyone, I should be more elaborate and state the lawyers/media/any one else who wants to believe it.

Check it, you go into a house with the clear intent to burglarize. You already 'know' that Sean is NOT home. So, you bring a gun anyway? More so, you kick in the door because you heard someone? Why not get the **** out of the house? If I were breaking into a dudes home, (hypothetically of course because I would never do such a thing) and I hear someone who wasn't supposed to be home.. I am going to get out of the house. In addition to all this, it isn't like ST ran to his room... he nor Jackie SAW who was breaking in. They HEARD them.

I am sorry but, I feel no sorrow for these teenage scum. It is such a sad event that should have never happened. These kids deserve everything negative that is coming to them and more.

^ That's defense manipulation via the media. They will pull every tactic to drum up sympathy. This is a high profile case, a feather in the cap of the lawyer that can score a plea for reduced charges.

Read the threads in Stadium...the media manipulation is already working. Lawyers are playing the victims-of-circumstance/unintentional/aww shucks they didn't mean it card and it's working. Plenty of people here are already falling for it...there are a ton "oh they didn't actually MEAN to kill him" type posts.

Disgusting.

They are not just on suicide watch. When a suspect wears that vest, it is a protectice vest. It protects them from being assaulted, stabbed and possibly shot. They have nothing to do with a suicide watch. Suicide watches require minmal clothing, often paper gowns except when teh go to court then they wear a jump suit with hand cuffs.

Why feed, house and "re-edjumacate" them for 75 years?

Fire up Ol' Sparky, ask them what they want for a last meal and be done with them
