"But this situation has told me I need one. I'd rather be prepared than to be like Sean was, and not have a gun in his house when he really needed it. I'm going to go through all the proper procedures, get a license, get training for it, and have it in my house, where I lay my head at night. "I wish a lot of people thought like I did, that violence is bad. But unfortunately that's not the way the world is. Sometimes the world is not a nice place. It's sad I have to get a gun.'' Good for him. Now if you find yourself in a similar postion Chris, lock your bedroom door get everybody under the bed call 911 kill the lights get some cover, and take aim at the door...and wait. Say low inside with the door closed in the dark.. Then aim for the chest
Byner21
Could you imagine how this would have played out if ST had shot and killed one of the teens who was "merely" robbing his home? Pretty weird to think about.
pgitta
Glad to hear Chris will be packing but is this **** really neccessary: [/indent] Yes, I think it is important for people to realize the worst possible thing you can do if you hear someone break in is go out of a secure room to investigate. I'm not saying Sean ran out waving a machete like Tarzan, but I wish he would have barricaded himself in that room and called the police.
flexxskins
When you say "get everybody under the bed," this of course is assuming that everyone is in the same room. Right?
pgitta
When you say "get everybody under the bed," this of course is assuming that everyone is in the same room. Right? Yes, that does pose a dilema if other rooms are occupied. In that case, I would lock the door behind me and staying low, move quickly to the kid's room and rinse and repeat. Obviously a nice big Doberman would be a huge help.

Well from the accounts that Sharpstein gave it sounded like the door was kicked open before he actually got to it to lock it .. I could be wrong though ... As far as Samuels goes ... it makes me uneasy that he is publicising his plans .. if you want to get one fine .. but you dont need to tell the world ...it only leads to provokation. BuryYourDuke
Look, I'm as big of a 2nd Amendment supporter as you will find. You could call me a gun nut and I will say thank you. But this thread should probably find it's way to the tailgate even though it is Redskins related. I can only see it becoming a political debate in which I will get into trouble, haha. flexxskins
See my adenndum on multiple room occupancy Yep, I caught that. Unfortunately we have been forced to do things in todays society that we otherwise would never do. I don't like having guns in my house. I have had to tell my teenage daughter that if she is up in the middle of the night, getting something in the kitchen or something like that, to announce herself, knock on my door to let me know or even call me on my cell to let me know. It's sad, but necessary. I wish, oh how I wish that Sean Taylor had a gun the night that he was killed. But, he was probably adhering to some type of court stipulation that prevented him from owning a firearm.

kubstix
If anyone is a gun hater put yourself in the situation. Imagine laying in bed late night and hearing someone break open a window in your house. Now imagine yourself reaching under your bed and pulling out a gun. Now imagine yourself hearing someone breaking in and grabbing a baseball bat. In my opinion, I would be ******* bricks without my Glock19. I would still be ******* bricks with it, but definetely much more comfortable. We live in a society where guns are needed anymore. Anyone can say what you want about having a gun, but if it came down to 1 on 1.........I'de rather be firing on HOME TURF then swinging a baseball bat at a man with a knife/gun. It's a win win situation with homefield advantage written all over it.
MD.C RedskinsFan
Typical, ignorant quote from a lot from your age group on such a sensitive topic as this. Excessive and unnecessary. You're 42 and you should be ashamed of yourself. I am not ignorant in any way shape or form. You don't know me and even if you did you have no right to judge me or lump me into whatever your preset views of someone my age should be. I meant no harm nor do I condone the usage of guns. I would never shoot someone let alone touch a gun so your implication that I don't care what goes on or who gets shot with a gun is wrong. I have never even seen a gun outside of someone like a police officer. Well I guess extremeskins lives up to it's name again. Anyway you made me angry for all of one second. I'm back to my care free happy self.
RedskinInExile
So long as he does get training, keeps it safe from any kids and shows enough restraint to not shoot first at any sounds he hears coming from the living room late at night (statistics show it's more likely to be a curfew-breaking teen than a burglar) and ask questions later, I'm all for it. DeanCollins
When you say "get everybody under the bed," this of course is assuming that everyone is in the same room. Right? good luck with that, scanning through tailgate pics, not many would fit  An alarm system that's turned on, and a dog would keep intruders out of the home, for the most part. Video cams are cheap these days. If you walked up to a home and saw a sign that read "video surveillance, smile you're on Americas most wanted" looked up and saw a video cam pointed at you with a red light on, would you hang around?
