AKM311
4/ Vernon Davis ... in my books we would eat Chris Cooley for breakfast. 40 yards in 4.1 secs! Now that is speed. And, he is ripped. From a Terp alumni and a huge fan of Vernon at CP and touting him when he came out, personally I rather have Cooley. You ask why? Yes Vernon is above and beyond more athletically gifted than Cooley, but whats it worth if you cannot read a defense and find the open portions of the field. Thats what makes Great TEs! I think he needs to slim down and convert to a WR, because that is where he belongs.
crank
I think he did an ok job once he got into the flow of the game. In his first few snaps he hurt the team by not being up to spead with the pace of the game.
JaimeDeCurry
I think he did an ok job once he got into the flow of the game. In his first few snaps he hurt the team by not being up to spead with the pace of the game. That was my thought as well, especially his first play. He let a man get to the outside untouched and (was it Ware?) he ran down the play from behind for no gain. After those first few plays, though, he was right up to speed. Got to think that this kid is going to be pretty solid, if not spectacular, for us in the future.

Diehard Otis
On Heyer--does this mean that Washington can start running to the right side of the Line again? On the Draft--Unless the Front Office makes a deal to get a top Pass Rusher included on the roster this off-season, I would like us to stand pat with our picks & draft who's available. I've been impressed with how well the Skins have drafted players these past few years. On Univ. of Maryland players--I firmly believe that we should have the inside track on ANY talent coming out of UMD, Howard, JMU, V-Tech, et al. To me, this is the equivalent of college recriuting. Sure its still possible to be competitive without local talent, but why not set yourself up for success by plucking occasional diamonds from the rough in your own back yard? The Heyer pickup is a strong step in the right direction.
Chump Bailey
Heyer > Wade in every aspect IMO... The pass protection was good for the most part. Chris was having a very hard time with Ware however...

Touchdown Redskins
4/ Vernon Davis ... in my books we would eat Chris Cooley for breakfast. 40 yards in 4.1 secs! Now that is speed. And, he is ripped. If Vernon Davis ran the 40 in 4.1 seconds, he would have been the #1 overall pick in the draft. In actuality he runs a 4.4, which is very fast for a TE. A 4.1 40-yard dash is faster than Deion or DGreen. In any case, Cooley is more productive and has a better feel for the game, and he wasn't even a first-rounder. I'll take Cooley over every single tight end in the league except for Gates and Winslow Jr.
bulldog
the Redskins are bad enough with 5 wins, is someone really going to come on here and take a stand on a player on the WORST offensive team in the NFL that has TWO wins?  I don't want to hear ANYTHING about the 49ers until they start to score points in primetime. That 24-0 game against Seattle was an embarrassment. Seattle is hardly New England or Indy either.
LoudMouth12thMan
Good call Pete. It speaks volumes about the depth that we have at most positions. Gibbs isn't getting enough credit around here. I have a feeling that if he stays until the end of his contract or beyond, people will start to sing his praises again and realize that he has really started to build a solid team. To think we actually had a chance to win that game yesterday in the end against the Poke's best players. No excuses here, but let's be honest; we didn't have all of our healthy players on the field and still performed well enough to win. Heyer will only get better if he has to step in for a game or two. It'll be interesting to see who will play that RT slot if and when Thomas comes back. Will it be Heyer, Wade, or Fabini?
#1njskinsfan
I didnt even notice he was in there until I saw him on an instant replay. Thats a good sign I guess. Well done Heyer. i thought the same thing when i saw him on a reply!!!! great work
bulldog
the Redskins have age and injury problems on the offensive line, and the two ARE intertwined. Thomas (32), Jansen (32), Wade (31) and Kendall (34) are getting up there and the first 3 have had a history of injury problems. Samuels and Rabach are still effective and should have a couple more seasons as keys on the line. But the Redskins need to start developing at least one young OT with definite talent and preferrably TWO offensive guards. Jansen may have a big contract and will be back in 2007 but you can't count on him for 16 games any longer and it would be foolish to do so. Perhaps Heyer is one of those younger players. We will have to see. He has a LONG way to go to be a replacement as a starting RT, though.
ashsra
I completely agree, and I think regardless of whether Wade can come back they should just leave Stephon as the starter. We need to find out if this kid is the long term solution there. If he is then maybe we only have to spend 1 draft pick on the OL this year to find a guard. onnie007
Heyer is the man and a huge pickup! We got him for nothing. I can't wait for him to learn more and more from Jon Jansen when he gets back and continue to be Randy Thomas' mentee.
VBHOGG
I agree with the accolades and I also like Heyers match up against Kevin Carter this week. Carter doesn't seem to be lighting it up this year. I also think Samuels will be able to handle Gaines Adams with out help. Cooley might have a big day! Pete
Not to burst your bubble, but Jansen's not coming back. His career is as good as done. While I've said Jansen is done, I see him with the team next season. If he's not handed the job on his rep, and Heyer can show what's needed to oust him as a starter, I see Wade or one of the other OL gone, and Jansen as depth. It's not a knock on Jansen at all. I think he's been a fantastic player, but after his achilles injury he just hasn't been the same. Breaking the same ankle and leg doesn't help, either. whitejimmy
No no no, Heyer can't be any good. The Skins have no depth because they undervalue draft picks and overpay ..., blah blah blah. Someone in the media needs to notice the depth the Skins actually have.
