DiscoBob
I though the last year of his contract was voidable by Taylor? If so, we are working on only 2 years left.... If we let it get into his last year here, we are just asking for him to test FA. I'd like to see an extension this offseason. Give him a gontract equal to the best safety deal out there, and it will be a bargain.....If he hit's FA he will get a deal in the 10+ mil per year (something more than Nate Clements).... danthemann71
snyder wont let him go, the whole reason we drafted laron landry was to have a complement to sean taylor.

I believe Clements got a 20 million signing bonus this past off-season. But, keep in mind, he is a cornerback now playing for another bottom-feeder much like the one he left in Buffalo. I certainly wouldn't mind being affluent, but Where the heck would my ring be by the time I retired.
DCranon21
Why worry about it? He'll get it done in the next 3 years.

I certainly wouldn't mind being affluent, but Where the heck would my ring be by the time I retired. Understand your point about playing for a bottom feeder.... As far as contracts go, I understand that CBs typically get more than safetys, but safefy salaries are on the rise, and contracts increase in value each year. With those two factors in mind, I would expect Taylor to get about the same deal ($80mil salary/$22mil gaur. for 8 years). Maybe not the same length, but the same payout (average of 10 mil per year). Plus, DBs usually start to feel the aging affects at about ~30. So why not re-up Taylor now to a 6 year deal, and lock him up to age 30? It is a much more effective use of the cap to lock players up in there best deal during their prime years, rather than the Redskins tendancy to give 27 – 30 years olds large deals. This produces the inevitable outcome of overplaying for vets on the downside of their career.
SkinsFanAnt
Well by the time contract time comes around, we'll be a contender, so there's no way he would want to leave. Plus, Snyder will make ST so rich that he'll have no other option. Snyder might not like ST....just because he's a great player doesn't mean he will not try to low ball him. Look what Snyder's done with AA and B Lloyd overpaid for 'big name' FAs while ignoring the home grown talent. I really think he makes bad decisions and ST might be one of them unfortunately...it may end up like a Champ situation.
Xempt
with the way sean taylor has been playing this season im sure alot of teams are checking him out since his contract is up soon. do you guys think he wants to stay here and if so will we pay him what he wants? dumbass, sean taylors contract doesnt expire until after the 2009 season at the earliest, 2010 is voidable, why are you worrying three years in advance? ALLWORLD
Hey xempt, chill with the "dumbass" comment.. Everyone is a bit worried in their own way. As for the payout, I would look at Landry's rookie contract and add a nice chunk to it for a good estimate on what Taylor could expect.
onnie007
I'm almost 100% sure that Taylor's contract goes through at least '09. Thats correct but I think it he can opt-out after the '09 season so we'll have to consider an extension after next season.
pjfootballer
Whatever the failings of our owner, one thing he excels at is signing the people he wants. The problem is, he usually or often wants guys that aren't worth what he is willing to pay. Snyder can throw a MONSTROUS signing bonus at him.The only thing that can stop us is tons of dead cap money, ie, more boneheaded Lloyd signings. Also, safety is hardly an absurdly high-paid position like QB, DE, etc. This means franchising him, if it came to that, really gives us more leverage than usual, as the deal Snyder might offer could be more than franchise average, plus include mongo bonus. The only X factor is that he REALLY likes Florida. . .if one of the FL teams was a contender and offered him a big deal we could have trouble. Dolphins can be crossed off that list. They aren't going anywhere in the next 3 years.

chiplohmillers#1
Exactly. No player in history has ever left a contender! ughhhhhhhhh what about randel El. No one plays to win anymore. This is about money, getting it as quick as you can, and as much as you can. These guys have an 8-10 yr window if they are lucky.... No one cares about the contender factor. jthor99
The team will get a contract hammered out the offseason. Similar to the way Cooley's went down atlest thats the buzz in league circles.
MWCREDSKINS
As long as Gregg Williams is here, he's not going anywhere. The franchise tag is always there. Now that Cooley is done, I'm sure ST is their top priority

They might make him the next head coach, then again proabley not.
professor21
ridiculous, he won't leave, he loves being a skin. you know how much love and props he gets here? think dawkins ever thought about leaving the eagles? (hope his necks okay) and it would be the biggest failure of the FO in all skins history to let go of a safety who's coverage skills goes above and beyond any safety playing in the league as of right now (this season). this man's going to the hall, mark my words.
