Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Is it a dubious distinction to be regarded as the worst division-winner in NFL history? Are you happy because you did what you had to do and finished with a better record than all the others in your group, or are you embarrassed to wake up one January morning both mediocre and playoff-bound? For the answer, you'd have to ask members of the 1985 Cleveland Browns. The Browns won the AFC Central with an 8-8 record in '85, the only division winner in the 87-year history of the league to finish .500 or worse. In Marty Schottenheimer's first full season as an NFL head coach, Cleveland was actually outscored, 294-287, over the course of its 16-game schedule, then was beaten by Miami (24-21) in the Divisional Playoff round. I wonder if the Broncos, who missed the postseason with an 11-5 record that year, figured themselves to be more worthy postseason participants. If that was the case, they certainly took their revenge on Cleveland in the 1986 and 1987 AFC Championship Games.

..................

Washington (3-1) at Green Bay (4-1), Sunday, 1:00 (Green Bay -3)

Storylines: Two surprising NFC contenders meet at Lambeau Field...Packers quarterback Brett Favre leads the NFL in passing yards (1527), and Green Bay is No. 1 in the league in passing offense (294.6 yards per game)...With his next interception, Favre will establish the all-time league mark in that category, currently shared with Sammy Baugh at 277...Green Bay receiver Greg Jennings and Washington tight end Chris Cooley both have touchdowns in three consecutive games...Redskins wideouts Santana Moss (groin) and Antwaan Randle El (hamstring) both considered questionable for Sunday...Veteran wideout Keenan McCardell caught two passes in his debut with the Skins last week... Washington defense had five sacks and forced three turnovers in last Sunday's 34-3 dismantling of Detroit...Redskins have allowed an NFL-low four touchdowns on the year...Washington linebacker Marcus Washington (hamstring) and Phillip Daniels (shoulder) could miss Sunday's game.

Fast Fact: Green Bay has a three-game win streak in its series with Washington, outscoring the Redskins by a 95-23 count in those games.

Prediction: Redskins are banged up and face a Green Bay team determined to get back into the win column. Packers 17, Redskins 13.

anyone know the record low for TD's allowed in a season? this could be an interesting stat to keep track of.

I think that if we go into this game with a similar gameplan (not exactly the same but somewhat similar) then we've got this game, specially if campbell spreads the ball around like he did last week, 8 skins had catches last week as to only 5-6 the previous games

The most memorable game at Lambeau, that I recall, is this one.

Redskins.com

The Oct. 17, 1983 game between the Redskins and Packers at Lambeau Field was a classic. The two teams combined for 95 points, the most in the history of Monday Night Football, as Green Bay prevailed 48-47.

Furthermore, the two teams combined for 771 passing yards and 254 rushing yards. Joe Theismann threw for 398 yards and two touchdowns, while Packers QB Lynn Dickey responded with 387 yards and three touchdowns.

The game featured five lead changes and ended when Packers kicker Jan Stenerud nailed a 20-yard field goal with 54 seconds left in regulation. Mark Moseley had connected on four field goals in the game, but he missed a 39-yarder that would have put the Redskins ahead in the final seconds

It was a loss, but man, it took your breath away.

As JT said, ‘we just ran out of time’

It dropped us to 5-2 to Dallas' 7-0 ... yeah..our other loss was to Dallas.

In spite of this travesty, we rebounded pretty well for the rest of the season.

We headed into Dallas tied at 12-2, "WE WANT DALLAS" has seldom meant more.

(sigh)..... that last game against the Raiders.

apparently the fewest TD's allowed are by the Chicago Bears in 1932 and Brooklyn Dodgers in 1933, both teams only allowed 6 TD's for the season
