artmonkforHOF
All by myself- Eric Carmen and the Mad World - Donnie Darko version is pretty sad too. both of them are the types of songs that when you listen to them they make you want to masturbate and cut yourself. Got me thinkin of "tears in heaven" by Clapton considering circumstance surrounding the song

ntotoro
Sorry Seems to be The Hardest Word by Elton John. Try listening to that song driving in your car at 4:00 AM on a rainy night when you have been up 23 hours.

kameuh
Not a huge music guy, but my college roomate use to listen to soundgarden a lot. At least I seem to remember it being soundgarden (could be wrong). There was one song that was very depressing. Someone in this thread will probably recognize the song, but it goes something like this... I want you to scrape me off the walls, and go crazy, like you've made me.. etc.. Always was fairly depressing to me.

Speaking of AIC, I'd say "Down in a Hole" and "Rain When I Die" are depressing.

Bang
Is that what that song was about? Huh. Never knew that.My vote goes to Brick, by Ben Folds. Yep, give a listen to it... the guy gets up, has breakfast, goes to work, feels more and more boxed in by the mundane of his existence. At work he is pretty much crapped on all day by everybody, then goes home and kills everyone. All the while they play this metaphor of a monster rising from a lake. The song ends as the monster rises, and he walks in his front door. You can guess the rest. ~Bang
DeanCollins
Take one last look before you leave 'Cause oh, somehow it means so much to me. If you ever need me you know just where I'll be Please call home if you change your mind. I guess I saw it coming day by day Oh, but I could not stand the failure Before you leave, there's just one thing I must say Please call home if you change your mind Oh, and I know, you're used to running You're lost baby and I ain't funnin' If you call to me baby I'll come runnin' Straight to your side Again I'll confide in you Girl, go on, I won't say no more My heart ain't in it but I'll hold the door Just remember what I said before Please call home if you change your mind Please call home if you change your mind (greg allman)

Bang
the monster is the Locke ness Well, not exactly,, it's just a metaphor,, they use the "Dark Scottish lake" to make the mood, but it's not necessarily Loch Ness.. it fits though because of the 'known' monster who is supposed to live there, and in the past was not known to be as shy or friendly. ~Bang
