USS Redskins
What rule could they possibly make? You cant call time-out in field goal situations? I dont like it either but there is nothing they can do about it. The coaches have to be able to call time out.
CoachingWinsChampionships
What if there are 12 men on the field for the defense and the coach comes running up to the ref to call timeout just before the ball is snapped? You have to be able to call timeouts at any point before the ball is snapped. Also, it's not necessarily just happening now because the coaches can call timeouts. This happened several years ago when 3 of the defenders called timeout just before the ball was snapped on a field goal. I think it was the Broncos that time too, but I'm not certain which team it was.
Playmaker89
I like it. Its a strategy that can sometimes win you a football game. Unfortunately, Folk happened to be money last night, others might not be. Its a part of the game.
Bryan81
I do have a fear of our kicker making the first & missing the second in a situation like this, but I also fear our coaching staff deciding to do that & the other team missing the first & making the second. Thus the need to just keep putting points on the board so it doesn't come down to a kick.
DoBe
1) Can't stop a timeout from being called, thats insane. What if a defender notices that the offense is going to fake the field goal? You going to say they should have got the right d in the first time? Play hasn't started and you can't disallow timeouts. 2) even if they do stop the coaches from doing it, now that it's started the teams will just have a player on the field do it. It's here to stay. MD.C RedskinsFan
Those who are against it surely have to see that there is strategy involved in it. Those who are for it surely have to see that there is some shadyness involved. I'm really not sure what should be done about this situation. But I definitely wouldn't put it past the league to figure something out if they really wanted to do something. It could be something like, if they make it the first time and miss it the second time, they get another chance.
SonnyJ
So, basically, you feel that defenses should not be allowed to call a timeout past a certain point on the play clock? Because that's what it amounts to - preventing the defense from calling a timeout. As others said, the way to prevent this is to take the ability to call a timeout away from the coaches. As an aside, I used to always refer to timeouts as TOs. Now, I never use that term - I wonder why .
Laxpunk2006
I'm not a big fan of it but there isn't a lot to be done about it. I can't see the NFL making a rule limiting how close to the snap a time out can be used. However it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. At this point in time kickers should KNOW they are going to be iced at the end of the game. Use that first kick as practice.
Capt Rich Fla
I someone would just miss the first kick and come back to make the second one this would slow down alot.
RedskinzOwnU
What if you call a time out, he kicks, and misses. Then you feel like an idiot because they get another shot at it. So, it can go both ways... but yea it is annoying.
Chump Bailey
Bush league IMO and hope it's changed ASAP...

You can't stop this because then what happens when you think there's going to be a fake? The rule should stay the same. At the best it is a gamble and it gives you more incentive to save time outs. CM916
Statistically, it doesn't work and just pisses everyone off in these long games. Just let the guy kick so everyone can go home. On one occassion, it gave a certain team time to regroup, go for the TD, and take the lead at the half, a lead they never looked back from I might add. BuryYourDuke
The coaches have to be able to call time out. They do? How did we have football without it for so long?
sonsofwashington
If you are gonna ice the kicker you shouldn't give him a practice shot. Right? Either way the guy made it twice. He is un-iceable. HAHA!
Taylor 36
I don't see the problem with it. If anything, it gave me an extra minute of hope last night before it all came crashing down. Only the freakin' Cowboys could turn the ball over six times in a game and still win. That is a rule I think we should change.
dreamshatterer
Its completley fine. While the play clock is running, either team can call a timeout before the ball is snapped. Its within the rules. Can't really hate on them as annoying it is.
ST is my boy
Alot of good points being made for both sides. I guess its something were going to have to get used to for a while. Because im pretty sure its gonna happen every single week now. Like someone said I guess it will just take someone to miss first then make second for it too stop... Lombardi's_kid_brother
It will stop when this happens. And it will happen soon. And it will probably involve Norv. The coach on the opposing team will call the timeout. The kicker will then miss the game-winner. He will then get to retry it. He will then make it. Ah....good times. [[ghost]]
I realized that, when Mike Shanahan did it, I thought it was cheating. But when a terrible team like Buffalo did it, I had no problem with it. In conclusion, I hate Mike Shanahan.
Dance04
it's a terrible thing. I hate having to watch 2 field goals in a row. don't give me this strategy BS. if someone pulls this on the skins and we miss the second kick, this board will shut down from all the mayhem
FanboyOf91
I hate having them call timeout on the millisecond before the snap. One of these days somebody is going to call a timeout as the ball is snapped and the kick is good and there's going to be a controversy about whether the timeout was done in time. (Even though the coach waited until the very last second to call it) Worst nightmare: This leads to replays on when a timeout was called.
Ball Coach
Billick waited too long to throw a challange flag a couple of weeks ago, and the officials had no problem telling him that he was too late. For some reason people seem to think they called a time out in mid-snap. The debate should be if it is an effective strategy, not if it should be allowed. Bliz
It's bad sportsmanship. 'Nuff said. I'd like to think that Gibbs is too much of a class act to pull this kind of bs.
TheSkin919
First of all, its the cowboys they were playing. When is the last time that happend to the Redskins. Keep the rule, definatly strategy. When he kicked the second ball I was hoping he would miss. keep the rule:helmet::logo::dallasuck
