left out way too many moves for this to be a viable discussion, and taylor jacobs wasnt waived, he was traded for mike rumph

You people...You spend more time ....Nevermind...

He was just waived..This year... was my point.

But you were looking for something to point out weren't you.

such is life....you win some you lose some.

We overreact to personnel moves just like anything else Redskins related....the bottom line is we can't keep everybody.

I would like to still have peirce, champ, dockery, lavar, etc etc but we all know that is not realistic.

Do you think the Colts fans are complaining about losing Edge. You can only hope that the FO makes the right decision; sometimes they do, sometimes they don't....it's just like gameday, you can't win them all.

What I have noticed through a couple offseasons here is that most of the "The FO SUCKS" banter is saved for the off-season when there isn't much else to analyze and digest, save for 5-11 seasons when everything is fair game from the QB to the Janitor. Hopefully we continue to blow teams out and we don't have to have any more "Fire Vinny" tirades.

A look at the current team of drafts and good FA moves under Gibbs II:

Jason Campbell

Mark Brunell (helped the team back into the playoffs, broke an NFL record)

Clinton Portis (franchise record holder)

Extended Betts

Mike Sellers returned

Chris Cooley, and extended

Santana Moss (franchise record holder)

Randle El (punt returns, passing TDs, emerging as a legit #2 WR, Mr. Utility)

James Thrash (ST contributions have been invaluable)

Extended Chris Samuels

Pete Kendall

Casey Rabach (our o-line has been one of the best in the NFL since he came here)

Extended Jon Jansen

Andre Carter (consistent since end of last season)

Griffin (one of the best, and most underrated, DTs in the game)

Montgomery (our D-line has been getting better each week since he got the starting nod)

Golston (also great value, seeing as he and Montgomery were very low round picks)

Daniels (this is probably his last year as a starter, but the D has been in the top 10 twice with him)

Washington

Fletcher

McIntosh

Springs

Rogers (eventhough some still don't like him, he has been part of a top 10 D, is looking better each game this season, and is better than a lot of other starting CBs in the NFL)

Taylor

Landry

Suisham (I know it's still early for him, and a couple others I put on here, but seeing as so many were quick to chalk up players as busts last year, I feel it's ok to chalk other up as good moves until they prove they don't deserve it, which hopefully won't happen)

Frost (how many of you wanted him gone? He's making you all eat crow every game he plays)

I know there are so many on here who only want to point out the few bad moves we made, and pretend it doesn't happen with other teams. But it's quite obvious our good moves outweigh and outnumber the bad moves.

Very nice.

None of the moves mean squat until we do SOMETHING....

Wow a praise the front office thread because we are 3-1 coming off a 5 win season.

This season is starting well. Who on the list you created has made the pro bowl being here. Not many.

Change is not Black and white.(Generally)

We are gray now on our way to years of winning.

I don't think every player picked up or drafted is a bust if they don't make the pro-bowl.Have you noticed some of the guys who don't make it lately.

I chose to enjoy 3-1. and plan on enjoying 4-1 as well.

You can't measure value by pro bowls. Otherwise, Cooley would be worthless and Vick would be gold. There's too much fan love going into pro bowl selections. We've got some guys who will definitely make a pro bowl or two once we start winning, though.

Edit: once we CONTINUE winning.

I like this thread. I've seen people on this board point out our FA busts, but NO COACH is going to perfectly evaluate talent/character every time. You can't always hit the jackpot when signing FA's.

To win, you have to be willing to take measured risks. Sometimes you'll score, sometimes you'll crash and burn. On net, I think our coaches have done a good job bringing in talent (esp. considering what our roster looked like just a few years back... shudder).

Now that they have the major pieces in place, they need to work on making winning a habit.

The Redskins have made some good moves, if they'd stop giving away draft picks for players like Duckett and Lloyd... show some patience in the draft and make it to where they don't have a 7-9 million dollar dead money hit against the cap each year for some overpriced player that didn't work out....... I'd be much happier.

They seem to be able to absorb these hits but imagine what they could do if they spent their money more wisely. Or for that matter had the draft picks back that they wasted on Duckett and Lloyd.

Redskins always seem to be chasing instead of planning when it comes to building a team.

No coach is going to be perfect, but the Redskins swing big and miss big. You need to be sure about a free agent if you're going to hand out 10 million dollars in guaranteed money. Name another team that signs players to contracts like that only to release them the following year. This is a yearly occurance with this front office.

you can't say mark Brunell was horrible tho , he gave us a playoff year , and like it or not he was the QB of that team , even tho we rode Portis to the playoffs we can't say we coulda done it with Ramsey , who has done squat since he left , so although I was ALL for benching Brunell every week , he did get us there ><

1. The only people that actually think we got a good deal for portis live inside the beltway (or are on this board). It's a fact that its easier to find talent at runningback then it is at corner. The portis deal was bad because of that 2nd round pick. I love portis he's been an asset for this team. But we gave up too much to get him while champ is the best player in the NFL at his position.

2. We gave up a 2nd rounder and $5 million in cap space for mark brunell?? True we made the playoffs but it wasnt because of his savy play. It was because our defense was stout and we ran the ball well.

For the most part, I like the moves our front office is making lately. I was sooo tired of trading draft picks. Even last year trading a 3rd rounder to get TJ Duckett pissed me off. This year, we kept our picks and got younger and faster only helping the team. I am looking forward to a draft in which we get a draft pick in each round.

Correct...my point was before we annoint our front office as king...lets see even back to back playoff years... :2cents:

Right now we need something to judge them by...if its not pro bowls, then its record. Last I looked Gibbs is batting .500.

Lets savor the 3-1 and see where we stand after 10+ games.

Not only this, but getting Portis for Champ and a 2nd round pick may have been steep, but Champ didn't want to play for us anymore due to the constant changing of coaches. Not only did we do better unloading him, but we in essence received

Portis,

Marcus Washington

Shawn Springs

for champ and a 2nd round pick. We wouldn't have been able to afford Champ and wouldn't have gone after Springs either if Champ had stuck around. BTW, T. Bell hasn't panned out as of yet either. This is whom Denver took with our pick.

Its does appear that the good moves may have finally tipped the scale back to their side. But the season is young so lets not get tooooo excited (no jinx please)

However to be fair when making this good vs bad comparison the full nature of the bad moves should be given as well as all the good ones.

Waste of 3rd rounder-Ducket

Waste of 4th-ducket

Waste of 3rd-Lloyd

Waste of 4th-Lloyd

Money to lloyd (ie cost if he was only a free agent)

Arch

Pierce

Lavar-extending him and then not playing him

Mike Rumph

Kenny Wright

Letting Walt Harris go (you can claim he wasnt good here, but he was a good nickle and head and shoulders better than rumph and Wright)

The moss v coles trade really seems like a wash right now in the way both have played since, the cap hit hurt us, but things have worked out well, so that seems an even move.

The actual trade value of the portis and brunell trades sides with the other team but the moves worked out well for the skins so they are not negative.

It does appear the good outweigh the bad and i never thought i would be saying this. I beleive there are still many areas that are going to need help due to age but things look good right now.

That was a selective treatment.

Our record of last decade tells the tale.

Don't forget little gems like Duckett.

This is the first year we'll have a full draft in ages.

We are on the right path, but our personnel moves are still only average when you consider squandered picks we traded, and the dead cap money we consistently carry.

Remember, we gave up 2 3rd and 2 4ths for Duckett and Lloyd, and gave Lloyd and Arch FAT deals.

Portis and a #2 for the best cover corner in football.

A slew of fullbacks and LBs no longer on the team.

Rogers, decent, but hardly playing like a top-10 pick.

With hits like Taylor, Landry, etc., and gems like Monty, Golston, Heyer, that basically puts us in average department.

We also signed Cornelius Griffin and Randy Thomas...Up until yesterday Shaun Suisham was a great pickup. Derrick Frost has been awesome and is still real young. we brought James Thrash and Mike Sellers back for second stints with the team...

if youre gonna make an argument make sure you use everything to your advantage! dont just get over excited and rush out a thread before it is complete.

Don't count Suisham out yet.
