DallasBlowsBig
I have a 70th Anniversary Portis Jersey and a white Sean Taylor jersey and I want to get them clean. I actually haven't worn the Sean Taylor jersey yet because I like it so much and I don't want to get it dirty (yes I know please don't bash me lol) but Ive been recommended by some to hand wash it with detergent, and others have told me to go to the dry cleaners. Which is the best way, I don't mind spending money, what matters to me is keeping the jeresey looking new, clean, and in the best condition possible to last the longest. Also, how often should this be done, like how much cleans after how many wears? PS: How screwed am I if I wear a white jersey to a game and spill beer and ketchup on it lol? Mark The Homer
I have learned the hard way that, if your jersey has screen printing, the screen printing will begin to crack at the edges with a few repeated washings -- even if you wash them cold with gentle cycle. Hang dry. I would consider dry cleaning. But I don't have any experience with that yet. So do some research first. Beer will probably come out. Ketchup -- I would try to avoid that. SkinsFanInTennessee
I will echo Marks comments, just hang dry them. I have some replica jerseys that I have had for 2-3 yrs, and washed them probably 10-20 times. And I havent had any problems with cracking of the screen print. Just wash in cold and hang dry. As far as stains, go with Zout foam. It will take anything out.
skinsjunkie2
We've got Replicas and Authentics and have never had a problem. We wash them on the coldest cycle available - inside out - and then air dry them, again inside out. The Authentics only get worn to actual games and the Replicas on game days for the most part and we try to wear them at least twice if possible before washing. The less washing the better and yes, avoid ketchup stains etc. - they don't come out from our experience.
Major Harris
what? beer and ketchup are like blood and dirt stains. relish is like a grass stain. these are our battle marks. you can't leave a game with a clean uniform, . i rarely wash my jersey. i ONLY wear them on game day, though. #1Redskins
I always take my authentic Redskins jersey to the dry cleaners... They do a great job if you willing to pay some $$!
mcarey032
If you live close to a zips dry cleaning. They do a heck of a job for cheap. YOu should go with them if you live in the No. VA. area.
Yeen80
I have a few jersey's both authentic and replica. I try to wear them a few times before washing them. For years I've been washing them and then letting them hang dry. For the most part, I haven't had any problems. But, the replica's have slowly started to crack and peel like Mark the Homer stated. However, I've had the replica's since 2003 so I've been satisfied with their durability over the years. When I go to the dry cleaners to get my actual work clothes cleaned...I see some authentic jersey's hanging in the back. So, I guess if you shell out the dough you can get it dry cleaned. But I haven't gone wrong using the washing mashine. Whatever you do, DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE DRYER!!! :2cents:
Soup
I guess this has become a knitting circle. I don't wash the jerseys its bad luck.
Riggins77
Wash them every 8 weeks and you will be ok. I have worn my jerseys with wing sauce, beer stains, etc. on them all season long. If you wash them every week, they will break and look like ****....ala my wife ruining my Portis jersey (I gave it to her to wear before we bought her a woman's jersey). Even now, my wife agrees with me, dirty is good on a jersey lol
fuji869
I baby my jerseys. Like everyone else is posting I wash him inside out in cold water on the gentle cycle and the them air dry. I will also wash my jersey by itself. I wash mine after the first time I wear it and then maybe once every 4 or 5 games.
ceviker
I've heard of dry cleaning but never actually done it. Do they do a good job?
the burgundy and gold
i've never washed mine, but i've only had them both for about a year. They're authentics so i'm definetly not risking dry cleaners. If i were to wash them i'd do it myself.
mi6
Best thing to do is frame them.... That way they never get dirty. If you wear then, dry cleaning is the best.
Chief skin
NEVER EVER PUT THEM IN THE DRYER, always HANG DRY
Mr. S
i only have replicas, but the washer is fine. I never dry them either, but my friend has before. I guess the first couple times it's ok.
Vi
I hand-wash mine. It's a replica and our washer is notoriously violent, so I'm not taking the risk. I just fill the sink up with water and detergent and use my fingers to gently rub out anything that may have gotten on it. I let it sit in there for a bit, then pull it out and hang-dry it. It's easy, doesn't take long, and my jersey looks as good as it did a year and a half ago. Plus, I can wash it every second or third time I wear it without much damage, so it doesn't get all nasty. Lowghost
Four years ago my wife washed my white Monk and brand new burgundy Lavar jersey together. Now my Monk jersey is pink (I have had it since 91  ) Anyway I can get it white again ?
Taylor 36
I do not wash my jerseys often. I usually only wear them on game day, and only during the game for that matter. When I do wash them, I use the gentle cycle with cold water. Drying is a little weird. My Replicas, I dry them on the delicate cycle, and my Authentic I hang dry. So far, I haven't had problems with this.
ldysknzfn1
I don't have any authentics either. I wash mine in the cold cycle and usually by themselves, inside out and hang dry. Never, ever ever put them in a dryer. It will ruin them. I have an old Arrington jersey that I got free when I bought my last Moss jersey at the Reskins store(they were giving them away to get rid of them..it's a 4X)so I wear as a night shirt and I wash that all the time and put it in the dryer b/c it's an Arrington..plus it was free..who cares? lol And the numbers are peeling away..but the rest is in pretty good shape. Tastes Like Chicken
I have 4 authentics and a fake-lithentic. Dry cleaning is the only way to go. The white gets back to being ultra-brite, and they smell great. Gets every stain out for me.
ucfSKINS
Definitley second the cold wash and hang dry. I ALWAYS wear an undershirt so it doesn't stink. And if you can avoid the beer and ketchup, you're good to go for a few weeks!
