SI Truth and rumors. Portis may go?

I'm getting sooooo tired of this. In five seasons in this league Clinton Portis has put up 1500 yards three times. He put up 1300 yards in another. He is on a faster pace than Emmitt Smith, the leading rusher of all time. We all know what CP can do, Joe Gibbs knows what CP can do. There is no need at all for him to play in the preseason, especially after his injuries last year. Clinton was just being real when said he might not be here next year. That goes for every player on the roster who doesn't perform.

Clinton Portis is this offense. If it doesn't run through him then it won't succeed. They will put up some points but they will still lose close ball games. The media has made CP out to be a bad guy. His teammates love him, he plays his heart out and he is one of the best rushers in this league when healthy. I urge fans not to get caught up in this mess and to be thankful when he is the starter come week one.

Amen.

CP is a proud, proud guy. He is his #1 critic. He will say 'I have to produce or I won't be here next year' because nobody else will say it. CP is a beast, all the coaches and GMs in the NFC East knows it, and everybody else that knows football knows it.

Omfg, what a HORRIBLE "rumor" lol...anyone who watched the video of Portis' interview knows where this "rumor" got started...and they're presenting it as if Portis is having deep introspective thoughts on how he feels this very well could be his last season as a Redskin (complete with serious, introspective-looking photo to accompany it lol  )...Gawd, I love the press.

Exactly, they sure do mix his words around. In the video he is joking around. Gibbs will probably have to talk to him again about being super smart.

A. He Will Produce.

B. He Won't Leave

C. Everyone Loves C Portis

D. Except me!

I think he thinks he is above the team; that team rules apply to everyone else but him. Everyone has to bust their azz in practice but him. You people are myopic and so naive. His character is even in question after that "dog fighting is no big deal" stance.

He has done nothing to deserve a start in game 1.

have you been paying attention? you obviously have no insight into Clinton Portis whatsoever.

I could believe this rumor. Why? Here's how I'd evaluate the status of Portis

a) he's been injured - never a good thing for a player

B) He's voiced his displeasure about playing in preseason, calling out Gibbs and co as if to blame them for the injury

c) other players have shown that they can step up and produce adequately at his position.

d) said players were rewarded with contract extensions

e) He's faking this injury putting himself above the team and above the coaches. This can NOT be a good thing. Actually I think its a VERY BAD thing, and if I were coach, might be grounds for getting rid of this ****y sob who's making his own rules to get around mine.

Seems to me Gibbs is faking this injury as much as Portis.

f) HIS 2008 Cap Number is almost 9 MILLION DOLLARS.

Come on people use a little logic.

He aint coming back unless he renegotiates.

Does that honestly sound like something Gibbs would do? He doesnt need to fake an injury. He can simply say I dont want to play Portis, I want to keep him healthy, I want to keep him fresh, I want to see new guys play, whatever.
