This isnt madden guys. Do some of you understand what kind of cap hit we would take by getting rid of Portis. Even if we were trying to trade the guy who is going to want a guy at the point with teh contract he has, and his injury history. Portis is going to have a big year, and i cant wait for Threads like this to stop

Please stop the notion that his contract is untradeable. If we trade him the team that gains him only is responsible for his remaining salaries and unpaid bonus money which are.

08 = 5.049 mil salary

09 = 6.627 in salary

10 = 7.691 in salary

11 = 8.754 in salary

No bonus money is due to him so anyone can do a trade and restructure that in essence rips up those numbers.

Really looking at his contract folks we cannot continue to restructure him for long, so it may be best for the team to hope he has a monster year and get at least one day one pick for him.

Anybody with half a brain should have realized that Portis was being sarcastic about not being here again next year. Of course there might be a smidgeon of truth with his statement when you look at his projected salary numbers next year.

If he doesn't perform up to expectations and isn't happy with restructuring proposals he might very well be gone next year.

At this point, who the **** cares. I'm only interested what's going to happen this season and anybody paying attention to the drivel that passes as journalism these days should quit wasting their time.

Good research, but I think the point being made here is the cap ramifications for the Redskins, not the team to which we trade him. If we were to cut or trade CP, we would expect to take a large hit on the cap. Now, I'm not sure where to find these numbers, and I'm not exactly a cap guru, so do you think someone could fine some numbers as to what the cap hit would be if we let Portis go or traded him?

This is just the media putting some spin on thereason why Portis is not playing. They can't find anything else wrong so they make up this rumor. Just like John Clayton and his rumor about Portis losing a step and the rumor about Gibbs retiring again. All this is speculation and rumor to get a response by the player, coach or fans. These guys are as about as reliable as the weatherman in predictingthe weather let alone what a team is going to do in the season or what a player is going to do. Anyone can make news out of nothing and blow it up to be a bigger deal than what it is. That is what newsmen do, whether it is a reporter in the field or a sports reporter with their reliable sources. They just report garbage 90% of the time.

Hey has like an 8 year deal. More than likely he will not see the entire amount of that money. More than likely he has already restructured his deal a couple of times in order to get players to sign here. If he remains healthy and is productive, I would say he would be here for sure. If he is continually injured, then I doubt he will be here.

This is a gut feeling I've had for awhile now with Portis. While I think he's a great talent and an important asset to the team, I think his attitude is less than impressive, and I'm growing tired of some of the excuses and comments he's made about the team and the coaching staff.

If we have another season like we did last year, Portis could be playing somewhere else next year.

this atricle is directly from his interview...everyone needs to chill out and give him a chance to come back from his injury. Even if we wanted to cut/trade him we coudn't afford it, the cap hit would kill us. I think having a good 1 2 punch running system will seperate us from other teams in the NFL and make us one of the elite running teams in the NFL

I wonder how he keeps getting hurt. I heard he has a hyberbaric chamber, just like T.O (Which greatly helped T.O. recover from that broken leg to return for the super bowl in like 6 weeks). Hyperbaric chambers help the body recover, it doesnt make sense, I wonder if its his diet, or the way he trains, but this guy cant seem to get a break with injuries.

There is no basis to this rumor. Outsiders think that because CP got hurt last year and is being held out this preseason because of his tendonitis that OBVIOUSLY he is about to be kicked out the door.:rolleyes: JG has a lot of faith in CP and knows that CP is his stud. He is doing his best to keep CP healthy for the season and thats that. JG knows that CP hurt himself last year giving his 100% on the field. Unfortunately it happened to be in a preseason game and he hurt his shoulder. JG knows that when CP is on the field he gives his 100% regardless of what his jokes about or says of the field and CP's 100% is better than most, including Betts.

:rolleyes: Tendonitis is not that uncommon. It results from overuse of a particular tendon. And CP hurt his shoulder last year by just being a football player and trying to make a tackle after an interception. He did what came naturally and is frustrated because his season went down the drain due to his participation in a preseason game. Tendonitis resulted from overuse and/or working too hard. Are you going to knock a guy for working too hard? Its unfortunate that it happened but JG is not going to be disappointed in CP for training hard. I believe Willie Parker of the Steelers had a similar injury. And honeslty, I think it was a well timed injury because CP will be healthy for the season instead of getting hurt in the 1st Quarter of some meaningless preseason game (See Jason Campbell).

If anything, what Portis said was a good thing. He's sounds like he's motivated to prove himself to everyone.

Okay I think I answered my own question. Here's a link to all the salary cap info. It seems that if we cut CP this year we'll take a huge hit ($12 mil?). I'm not good at interpreting these charts but if someone could do that for me I'd be eternally grateful.

Boy is Cooley underpaid.

I dont think he'll leave. I'm too lazy to read the whole thread but he's worth more to the franchise than most other players on the roster.

When people think skins, they think CP.

Granted, this could all change after his performance this year, but for the 6 months I've been lurking this board (and three months that I've been registered yet havent posted) I can tell that no one here has any of the following word:

Patience

;)

(Great first impression, huh?) ;)

That's kind of the usual of what a 3rd round pick gets. But they need to hurry up and re-sign him, that's the bottom line.

Omfg, what a HORRIBLE "rumor" lol...anyone who watched the video of Portis' interview knows where this "rumor" got started...and they're presenting it as if Portis is having deep introspective thoughts on how he feels this very well could be his last season as a Redskin (complete with serious, introspective-looking photo to accompany it lol :laugh: )...Gawd, I love the press. :cool:

EXACTLY. Jesus christ.

What is this crap about his cap hit???

Portis is what you save money on other players for!

Campbell, Cooley, Moss, Portis, Samuels, Taylor, and eventually Landry. THAT is who we cut cap room for. You don't just save under the cap to spend it on absolutely no one.

It's much better to be within a million or so of the cap with the talent you want than be $20 million under with absolutely no one.

I'd hate to see him go, but it's weird the way he hasn't even taken one snap so far in the pre-season.

That is a little troubling, but to me a far worse thing is that he has not been taking hits in practice either. All the reports I have read says he goes off with trainers after the guys start 11 on 11s. I hope that changes soon, I think it is important for a team to practice together. Especially with a young QB and new OG. I would like to see at least a couple series from him against Jax, but it doesn't look like we will.

I think his attitude on the interviews has been tongue-in-cheek in regards to his future here, but we would be foolish to keep him if he cannot contribute this year. C'mon CP, time to show your stuff.
