GoCommiesGo
Their really is no reason for him to play in the preaseaon. Portis is a known quantity. In 04 he rushed for 1300yds with a non-existent QB. In 05 he set a franchise record with 1516yds and carried us to the playoffs. In 06 he had 523yds and tied for 6th place in the NFC in TDs with 7. Betts had 4. Ridiculous statements
Duckus
May I present to the jury Evidence A of why ST does not talk to the media. You can say things to the media and they will purposely twist things to make a story. Amazing. Watch the interview with CP - he was joking around the ENTIRE TIME and smiling. ST has it right - don't talk to these people!
BigMike619
Are you new to the board or something?Facts have no place here! People want to say that Portis is leaving, Gibbs is leaving, Brunell is going to the Falcons, Al Saunders is a failure, and Dan Snyder eats babies, so it is true! Keep your stupid truth to yourself; this is ExtremeSkins!!!!!! That made me laugh outloud right there.
onedrop
I'd hate to see him go, but it's weird the way he hasn't even taken one snap so far in the pre-season. preseason isnt over yet.....

redsand521
I think you are the first. Not a big shock, that we part ways at the end of the year. I just hope he is motivated to put up big numbers to land a gig with another team. Is his contract in its last year? I didn't think so but I am not sure. If he puts up big numbers he's not going anywhere.
meek
LOL, speaking of facts, did anybody notice the comments posted on that link? What a bunch of idiots. Did you guys know that Clinton Portis has a bad attitude and is a clubhouse problem? I felt like I was going to puke after reading that article and especially the comments that followed. The saddest part was reading comments from so called Skins fans going along with it and buying into the hype about CP being washed up, a locker room cancer, etc.
DRSmith
Think we could get a trade with TB. Williams for Portis?
Stew
If CP goes after this season it will be because he refuses to restructure his salary to be more cap friendly. I saw this a mile out. He had a really bad offseason. Clashing with coaches, defending Vick, not willing to participate in in training camp. Reminds me of Lavar's last season with the Redskins. get ready to hang your CP jersey in the closet next to your Arrington and Trotter, and Armstead jersey's. dinothekid
This is complete garbage. They took his conversation out of context. He was only implying that he needs to have a good season to give management a reason to keep him around.
jsevier
The comments CP made about being cut is one that all players in this league could and probably should say. If you don't produce then why would a team hold on to you? That being said, I am a CP fan and would love to see him finish up in DC. (As long as he is productive and helps the team.) This is another example of a journalist taking words and spreading them out of context. It happens in life, in sports, in most everything when your name is popular. Touchdown Redskins
Think we could get a trade with TB. Williams for Portis? That would be a horrible trade. Even if we were to trade him, which I don't think we'll do, Cadillac is a schmuck compared to CP. If we were to trade CP, I'd rather get a big receiver or a monster DE. elkabong82
Betts= Timmy Smith, a product of a solid o-line. Portis will produce this year, barring any significant injury of course. Also, when CP was battling injury, he still put up 7 rushing TDs, so the whole "he's banged up, can't produce, etc" argument is BS anyway. Also, the cap ramifications for releasing/trading/ whatever probably won't be any better at then end of this season either. In Saunders system, CP should do just fine, and all these worries and dumb rumors will dissappear.
mrdoctor
all of this because he said if he doesnt produce he'll get cut/traded/let go. this is absurd. indeed
Kurd Cudins
For those asking the cap ramifications of releasing Portis next offseason, here it is: Assuming we designate him a June 1st cut 2008 dead cap: $3.312M 2009 dead cap: $5.473M This is the equivalent to what we would owe him in SB money. His contract is structured in a way that I don't think any team would trade for him unless he agreed to restructure.
AzSkinsFan63
They need to change the title of that web site.. Truth OR Rumor?
D-Day
Well here are the cap figures for those who asked. in 2008 his numbers are. Salary = 5.049 Bonus = 3.312 Likely to be earned incentives = .515 Total Cap = 8.875 He will restructure if asked. To cut or Trade him. Pre June 1st Left over Bonus money = 8.76 So to Cut or trade him pre June 1st it is near cap wash. To Post June 1st cut or trade him . We will have a cap + of about 2.2 milish and dead cap hit in 2009 is 6.5 ish. Mongolians post above about the post June 1st looks a little better as mine is just guesstimated. on the dead caps in 08 and
Truant
Why won't the season just start already? You know, lawyers get such a bad wrap, but I wonder about these sports writers. They (general they, not every one) hide behind their assumed "journalistic integrity", yet they are all looking for the hot story that can further their career. Most aren't held accountable for these outlandish claims because they premise it with "Truth and Rumors." All these writers are hoping for their local team to implode in a disastrous way so they can be interviewed on ESPN and promote their upcoming book on the subject. The new ambulance chasers. GaryGreenMonk
I would have like to see him at least touch the ball a couple times this pre-season. Does everyone think this is CP's decision based on his injury or is Gibbs putting him in time out like he did with Lavar??
dizzinator53
I will bet my Avatar with any fan of any team that Portis lights it up this year. Even splitting carries He will be over 1200 yds rushing. Any Takers?
Ellis
Well... minus the rumor... I think it's fair to say that if Portis doesn't have a good year this season, he'll be in a difficult situation. He has to do 1,200 yrds or more AND score at least 10 TD's to show he's worth the $, despite the nagging injuries. I like Portis a lot and his character is very much needed in the locker room. I don't see why anyone would talk trash about him or put his head on the chopping block. We're talking about a 26 yr old RB who's had some above average seasons with the Skins (minus the injury last yr) and has at the least... 3-4 good years left in his legs. And above ALL of that... the success of Portis is at the mercy of the Skins OLine. They're the ones who should be worried about their job if they don't make holes for Portis or protect Campbell. jthor99
This isnt madden guys. Do some of you understand what kind of cap hit we would take by getting rid of Portis. Even if we were trying to trade the guy who is going to want a guy at the point with teh contract he has, and his injury history. Portis is going to have a big year, and i cant wait for Threads like this to stop
