snknby123
Maybe I'm wrong here but I think I remember hearing that the redskins are not capable of calling an audible at the line of scrimmage? Can one of you experts explain this to me please? I can't remember the last time I saw a RS quarterback call an audible. Theismann? If Jason C. comes to the line of scrimmage and sees a good chance santana may get one-on-one coverage and can't call a different play to take advantage of this how can we be competitive with the rest of the league? I realize we are not payten Manning here but if this is the case it's totally lame in my opinion.
Kurd Cudins
Um. Our QB's audible all the time. they don't during the preseason. Also, you remember hearing? that's pretty weak. this thread is pretty weak.
Oldfan
Al Saunders doesn't use audibles in his scheme. His theory is that 1) defenses have become adept at disguising coverages so the advantage is minimal and 2) he wants to use multiple shifts to create confusion for the defense -- those shifts plus audibles would confuse his offense. Also' date=' you remember hearing? that's pretty weak. this thread is pretty weak.[/quote']Calm down LMB, its the poor guys second post. You are right though, kinda weak. I believe Saunders uses motion and shifting to throw the defense off. I dont believe he audibles much. However, the season Ramsey got pummelled, i believe he audibled all the time. Like everytime Gibbs would call something, he would try to audible and either be forced to call a time out or we would get the delay of game penalty. To the OP: So, the last time we audibled was probably in Joe Gibbs system, and Saunders no likey the audible... Capeshe?
Riggo-toni
SOS's offense was predicated on the QB audibling, which as previously noted, Ramsey was horrid at and it got him killed. Not really his fault though, that's WAYYY toooo much to throw on a young inexperienced QB.

bowhunter
Wasn't Cooleys long TD reception from Jc the result of an audible? I'm pretty sure I heard Jc say that it was edit that -Now that I think about it I think he never heard the play from the sidelines, so just called a play he knew. SkinsHokieFan
The scheme has no audibles, similar to Norv's offense As has been stated, Saunders rational is that there are enough options on any play and the O creates enough confusion with movement to be unpredictable That and the sheer volume of plays is the reason Saunders does not have an audible in the scheme

Makes sense to me. There is a ton of movement on every play, is it just me or is it almost always Santana that runs around on formation shifts? Tastes Like Chicken
A lot of those pre-snap shifts are odd to me. Like when Sellers lines up at wideout. Does anyone really think that he's going to stay there? Seems like a lot of extraneous running around for the WRs. But I can just imagine trying to know which of the 700 plays is called, and then which of the 700 plays JC just audibled to. I dont see why they just dont have a few audibles though. Like "square", "circle", "triangle", "X", "R1" and "L1". Even I can remember those.

That movement makes it harder for defenses to key on him.

Kurd Cudins
:secret: Maybe you jumped the gun on this one, LMB. The only problem with that is assuming that we were running Saunders scheme entirely. Which wasn't the case.
mcarey032
Yeah I remember that Norv had no audibles. I think that is interesting. I have to give Norv credit he was a pretty good offensive coach, but his overall coaching style was offensive. As for the no audibles currently. . . it makes sense that the Al Saunders would say that the defense could disguise their defenses, so the advantage is minimal. I just hope that we are able to get the running game going. The passing game appears to be good. The running game needs to be looked at harder. ThePreciating
Al Saunders' offense doesn't use TRADITIONAL audibles where the quarterback calls an ENTIRELY NEW play. In this offense, when the defense shows certain things, the play is modified accordingly to take advantage of those things. Basically, we do advanced hot routes instead of audibles.
