michael_33
I just wanted to give you guys my :2cents: on the Brunell situation and our D-line as well... I truly believe that Todd Collins could do no worse than Brunell if forced to lead this team down the field!Of course I may be wrong...I don't know? I think Todd Collins has proved he can be the #2 QB with his knowledge of the system and it would also allow us to groom Jordan Palmer as he would sit as the #3.. I don't know what the interest is for Mark Brunell out in the market, but it would be wise to entertain offers for a trade for ANYTHING in involving a player and/or draft pick. I would believe that Atlanta,K.C.,Miami or maybe even Chicago could possibly show interest? I do not know how much CAP relief we would get for his release, but I thought I saw in another thread we were around 3 Million under the Cap or something... I also believe that Cooley should be first and foremost in his Contract upgrade!! :notworthy But I also believe the addition of Simeon Rice would definately help us in third and long situations at a MINIMUM! I would rather have an old speedy rushing DE that only plays on 3rd downs than an old noodlearm QB that NEVER plays IMO! Of course only if his contract is no more than what Brunell is making as well.... It would also be nice to see us actually get a draft pick in a trade rather than the norm...ala Lamar Marshall So I ask you guys....Am I wrong in this thinking?Or should we just hang on to Noodleman and avoid Rice at all costs? bryceb07
I agree with some of your points not all . Todd Collins has proved that he knows Al Saunders system in the preseason for about a quarter and a half ... not much more. I know Brunell stunk up the joint last year and I wanted him gone to. But he is healthy now , and deserves a shot. He has been nothing but posotive this whole time and we shouldn't judge him until at least watching his performance as the backup against Jacksonville. I like Collins more now then before but this guy is like a rail. He doesnt look like he could take any type of game punishment. I feel after one big hit he would be done for the year. Just my opinion. Brunell is good for this team right now ! However I do think Simeon Rice would be a great addition to this defense! BTW ... Jordan Palmer wasnt even that good in UTEP ... he will never be great in the NFL
[[ghost]]
Isn't Rice a liability in Run Defense? And Phillip Daniels is hardly a Pass rusher now. I wouldn't mind bringing in Rice for cheap and using those two situationally. But how many sacks did Rice have last year?
michael_33
Rice was cut and is now a free agent, Mr. GM. I am aware of that genius...I was saying trade Brunell for draft pick....then sign Rice!Sorry for the confusion...
ThePreciating
Bring in a situational pass rusher to replace our.....SITUATIONAL PASS RUSHER? And then trade for a FREE AGENT? Boss_Hogg
If Rice had a home, which he does not, I don't even think we could get Rice for Brunnell , besides both guys are old and washed up
radagast5
I am aware of that genius...I was saying trade Brunell for draft pick....then sign Rice!Sorry for the confusion... Not only is Rice a free agent, but he can't play the run, he's no longer quick enough to justify big money on a situational use player who isn't that effective, AND he is a God-awful teammate. Our pass rush is suspect, in the best of conditions, but no way is signing Simeon Rice a net gain for the Redskins.
Popeman38
Nobody else has shown serious interest in Rice. He is a locker room cancer, a one dimensional player, and old. Add all those up, and you have a recipe for disaster. Doesn't the fact that no one else has shown interest concern you at all? There are several teams that could use an upgrade at DE, yet he is still unsigned. There is a reason.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present Michael_33, GM of the Clownville Bozos. 1st of all...You are not smart if this is truly what you think I meant! Did i say trade for Rice? No! Trust me...I know more about football than you! On to another subject...If Daniels and Wynn or anyone else is classified as a "situational pass rusher" than I think we are in trouble!Don't you....Ahh nevermind dumby! Well I like the idea of signing rice after we trade Brunell ....So many idiots as members we have!!sheeeeeeez
pray4surf
Bring in another over-rated old, garbage injury prone vet. Lets also bring in Al Wilson, Jeremiah Trotter, Dominick Williams and Mike Alstott! If he can pass a physical, Rice can contribute in the right situation. Whats wrong with using him on passing downs? We have a capable backup at a much more reasonable cost. We don't need 2 veteran QB's on our bench, that's just stupid! I appreciate everything MB did for our organization, but right now MB is dead weight and needs to go. Right now I would rather see an over-rated, old, garbage injury prone vet playing, than seeing one on the bench or holding a clip board on the side lines. SkinsFanAnt
Rice costs too much....he's good but he's not going to be worth the price even for passing downs. We should have ditched noodle arm cannon last year regardless...

TMat184
Rice has had 1 poor year in which he was hurt. I understand age is a concern but Rice has been one of the best pass rushers in the league the last 10 years, he could come back strong this year in the right situation and healthy. ceviker
I agree with one thing- I think Collins, if JC gets hurt, should be the guy to come in. He's looked much sharper than Brunell in this pre-season. That being said, there is ZERO reason to cut Brunell now. If for nothing else, just someone who is reliable to come in if necessary and a great mentor to JC. Had Jordan Palmer played in the pre-season and looked VERY sharp, then you make the case of keeping only one vetern. You keep Palmer on the practice squad, keep two vetern QBs that know the system as back-ups and mentors to JC, and you go with that. Period. As for Simeon Rice, I was all for signing him before pre-season started. I think its a little late in the game now to bring in him (no time to gel with the team), but if we have an injury to Carter/Daniels, it may be worth bringing him in then for cheap. Turban Beardface
Brunell has had a bad preseason for sure, but his value as a proven backup negates what little trade value (if any) he has. Rice is old and injured....no thanks
ouvan59
1st of all...You are not smart if this is truly what you think I meant! I knew what you meant after reading your post but I can see how people who just read the title would be confused. As for the meat of your discussion I'm not sure Rice is the answer at this point. I think he is going to want more than we should be willing to spend and he really is only a situational guy at this point. Think 40 year old Bruce Smith. I also wouldn't be against trading Mark Brunell if we could get a reasonable draft pick (4th or 5th) but I seriously doubt we will find any suitors.
