Lombardi's_kid_brother
"Little chocolate doughnuts have been on my training table for years." (props to anybody who gets that reference)Clayton is usually spot on with his comments and I love his battles with Salisbury Steak but in this case I hope he is off the mark. I guess we will know Sept. 9. I ran a lot of miles to win that medal. And I downed a lot of donuts. I tend to agree with you. If Mark Schlereth was making this comment, it would be nonsense. Clayton seems to know everything about everybody.
Sebowski
Saw this over a footballguys.com and gotta say, it really pissed me off. John Clayton was the guest speaker at a Fantasy Football convention and did a 90 minute Q&A focusing on his tour of training camps. Look what he said about Portis-His body is breaking down because he does not take care of himself like a pro athlete should. He called Portis a McDonalds guy. Said he noticed he was bigger and asked Portis if he started a new workout routine. Portis said no, he's just eating more. Clayton says his body is more like a 29 year olds because of his eating habits. Okay, so John Clayton knows Portis' eating and workout habits? Portis has the body of a 29 year old  I hope Portis KILLS it this year, just to shut up all the doubters and haters out there. Gibbs has always praised Portis' work ethic, and I don't know where Clayton gets off saying this kind of crap. Has anyone else ever heard that Portis doesn't take care of his body? Anyone in the area see him at McDonalds on a regular basis? I'm not offended as a Portis and a Redskins fan. I am offended as a 29 year old
Lombardi's_kid_brother
The only thing that scares me about Clinton is this: 1385 career carries. With 270 carries, he enters the top 50 all time in carries for a back. I keep preaching this, but his remaining productive years may be limited. ZoEd
On another note, I think Clayton missed the point. Portis' body isn't breaking down...not yet at least. I think Portis found a way to keep himself injured through the preseason so he doesn't have to play a down and risk really hurting himself. Portis is no dummy. He remembers the hammering he took last year when he threw it all out on the line to lay a hit on someone. He's not going to make that mistake twice. I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I doubt CP is as hurt as he and the team want you to believe. He has nothing to prove, there's no competition for his job. He's the starter, plain and simple. A QB and RB don't have timing problems the way WR's do. If CP was the only starting RB in the game not playing during pre-season then I'd be alarmed but he's not. RB's take more of a beating then probably anybody on the field. Why compound that by rushing them into a game that means nothing. As far as Claytons comment, how would he know? Honestly, has he been shadowing CP watching him eat. I can see the little guy dressed in a long trench coat, fake stache and dark sunglasses standing behind CP at Mickey D's. It's sad when ANALysts have to resort to such crap to make a story. Claytons usually spot on but this is seriously a joke. Wonder how many ANALysts dogged Herchel Walker and Walter Payton for not going to the weight room and following there own workout regiment? Hey, hey, hey it's Clintoooon Pooortis, as he runs out on the field like Fat Albert. Seriously, this stuff kills me.

Once, again.... Everytime I start talkin' boxin', some white man gotta pull Rocky Marciano outta his ass. LT is going to end up one of the tree greatest backs ever. He probably falls into that "exception" category. Look, if you want to pull out statistical anamolies and wave them around as definitive proof that all statistical analyses are wrong, you can do that and feel smart. I'll even give them to you, because I know them all. The fact is, it is cause for concern when a running back crosses 1500 career carries. That's all. Cause for concern. Something to keep an eye on. Something to keep an eye on.[/quote'] Look Portis is an elite back. He's already in elite company by being one of three to run for 1500 yds his first two seasons in the NFL. He got busted up early in a game that meant nothing, you think that doesn't do something to your psyche? When he was healthy enough to return the season was just about in the dump so there really wasn't much reason to work too hard to get back. Selfish, probably. Unfortunately football is a business and some guys aren't willing to kill themselves for nothing. If he would have fought to get back in last year it would have been for nothing. Playing in pre-season this year, for nothing. Or should he play just to make the cry babies on ES happy? I'm so sick of people dogging a guy for looking out for himself. Portis will be back at the top of his game or he'll fade away into obscurity. Personally my money is on him blowing up the NFL this year. He's proven he plays better when he has something to prove. Look at the other RB's in the top 50 and tell me Portis isn't better than over half of them. Don't just throw stats around willy nilly and not expect people to call you on them. Your stat doesn't hold water unless it's to support allowing Portis to sit his STARTING ass on the bench and avoid risking injury in a meaningless game when he has nothing to prove. :2cents:

GibbsFactor
"If the furnace is hot enough anything will burn, even big macs."Of course that depends on how intensly Portis is working out. CJ is playing preseason and going through camp so he burns off all the calories consumed. It is not so clear that Portis is doing the same. I don't know man, he may be burning off the calories but gaining no nuitrition from his diet. That has to hurt his body more then it helps. bulldog
Clayton has always been a Dallas guy. Given them the best press possible on each move. Doesn't seem to like the other NFC East teams and makes it known each summer when it comes time to pick winners. I haven't looked, but no doubt Clayton is going to pick the Cowboys to go 13-3 and win the division.

playboy1972
I am going to have to side with John C. on this one as far as credibility goes. He has a good past as far as his opinions and not attacking guys with out substance. Portis isn't exactly the beacon of sincerety, you know? This is the dude that dressing up and acts like the class clown every chance he gets. So I wouldn't put it past him to be a fat lazy ****.
