John Clayton (ESPN) takes a shot at Portis

Portis N Pals

Recommended Posts

Saw this over a footballguys.com and gotta say, it really pissed me off. John Clayton was the guest speaker at a Fantasy Football convention and did a 90 minute Q&A focusing on his tour of training camps. Look what he said about Portis-

His body is breaking down because he does not take care of himself like a pro athlete should.

He called Portis a McDonalds guy. Said he noticed he was bigger and asked Portis if he started a new workout routine. Portis said no, he's just eating more.

Clayton says his body is more like a 29 year olds because of his eating habits.

Okay, so John Clayton knows Portis' eating and workout habits? Portis has the body of a 29 year old

I hope Portis KILLS it this year, just to shut up all the doubters and haters out there. Gibbs has always praised Portis' work ethic, and I don't know where Clayton gets off saying this kind of crap.

Has anyone else ever heard that Portis doesn't take care of his body? Anyone in the area see him at McDonalds on a regular basis?

I've heard Chad Johnson say in an interview with stephen a. smith on espn that he loves mcdonalds and cant stop eating it... he looks fine to me but as pro athletes that get paid millions of dollars, they're supposed to watch their eating habits much like pro models do because it affects their profession

I wouldn't be so negative on John. Not saying he is right or wrong but it did look to me at training camp this year that he does have a little bit of belly. Now it is not huge or anything and it could very well have been his clothes/Tshirt he was wearing under his pads, but take it for it is worth.

I didn't think pro models had eating habits.

"Little chocolate doughnuts have been on my training table for years." (props to anybody who gets that reference)

Clayton is usually spot on with his comments and I love his battles with Salisbury Steak but in this case I hope he is off the mark. I guess we will know Sept. 9.

If he did eat McDonald's then I still would care. Chad Johnson is one of the most fit athletes in the NFL and swears by McD's. When you have talent, you can do things that normal people can't do. CP is trainers monitoring his conditioning every day. If he were dogging it then they would let him have it. Plus every interview to date of Portis seems to give the impression that he has a chip on his shoulder and wants to have a breakout year. John Clayton is wrong......and ugly. (Seriously, dude looks like an alien or that dude Mr. Garrison on South Park who says "Ummm kaaayy")

Yeah, they did a morning following of Chad Johnson and his routines before practice. He said that he eats mcdonalds before practice EVERY morning.

Clinton did say last year that he still eats like he use to. Meaning, that he still eats a bunch of junk sometimes. I remember a specific reference to chicken wings. I did a search but couldn't find the article. Even still, I'm not sure if it's an issue. I think the Johnson reference proves the point. Those guys work out so much they can eat whatever the hell they want. Seriously, they might have heart problems when they get older but I doubt it matters much otherwise as long as they work out and train hard. Just look at Randy Thomas.

John Claton is usually on point. In this case, I believe it to be no different. Portis seems lazy. He is admittedly dodging preseason like he's Ladanian or something. Why would Clayton lie about Portis' eating habits? I would disagree if I had seen Portis on the field more than a few hours ALL SUMMER LONG.
