The_Grim_Reaper
Who do you think should be the Browns starting QB? Brady Quinn, Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson or someone else?
MartinC
I think Frye starts but Quinn is playing by game 8 - but in my opinion he should be allowed to sit this year. Quinn is their future - they are not going to contend this year so why risk Quinn at all. Give him a year to sit and learn the offense and then have a full preseason as the starter next year. What's the risk? If he's ready to play this season then he should play. Young, Leinhart and Cutler all got in last year and did alright.

Agreed. Quinn definitely shouldn't start week 1, but by mid-season, you definitely want him getting that game time experience so he doesn't have to face that learning curve in the '08 season. If you've watched the Browns thus far, who SHOULD be starting? It's Quinn. He's going to have all the mistakes that rookies make, but even when there's a botched play like the other night, he still ran the ball for three yards. He's a smart guy - and he's the future. By mid-season, it has to be Quinn.
cuchip703
I don't think Quinn will start until week 4 or 5. While he has looked good in the preseason, he still needs to get more under his belt. The one thought, to me, that says he should start week 1 is, "What do the Browns have to lose". They aren't going to be a stellar team with one of the other QB's starting so why not let Brady learn with on the job experience.
Rodriggo
In hindsight wouldn't you have wanted Campbell to have come in starting Week 1 of last year? Those games that Brunell played were worthless. Granted Campbell probably wouldn't have done much better but at least with a young guy there is always the upside that he might excel, mature and play beyond expectations. If Campbell was able to lead us to a win at New Orleans in his fifth game what would he have been able to do in the fifth game of that season at New York? Who knows? What we do know is that every "live snap" Campbell takes will only help him shed the awkwardness and fear that is inevitable in every young QB so why not give him the most possible in what was a lost season? All of Brunell's veteran leadership led us to a 3-6 record in 9 games in what ended up being a 5-11 season, way, way out of the playoffs. The worse part is that Campbell is now in his third year, still not ready, and is essentially a rookie QB all over again. Cleveland should just start Quinn. He's your guy, get him out there, let him take his lumps and the team will be better off.

IF he is ready that is the question (to badly paraphrase Shakespeare). He missed a lot of camp and may need some more time to fully grasp the scheme and get comfortable with his backs and receivers. Add to that the Browns had O'line problems the last couple of years and are starting a rookie LT (although a high #1 pick). He has looked good in preseason but the games speed up a LOT when it starts to count. Whats to loose is his confidence if he comes in and struggles. Carson Palmer and Phil Rivers sat out their entire rookie years as did Jason Campbell. I can't see Frye or Anderson as the answer and I suppose if they really stink they might be forced to put Quinn in - me I'd take the view that he might be my QB for 10 years and take my time with him. The only reason Palmer and Rivers sat out their rookie years (Rivers beyond a year) was because the QBs infront of them played well and the teams were in playoff contention. I think Campbell would of gotten in if not for the Skins late season winning streak in '05. So unless Frye has the Browns in the playoff race late in the season, Quinn's going to get on the field. Plus Quinn's more polished coming out of college then most QBs are.
SkinsOrlando
Quinn will start around week 4 if Frye struggles, if Frye plays relatively well, he won't see the field till week 9 or 10. Now if Frye continues to suck major donkey balls in the pre-season it's possible Quinn starts week 1, I just don't see that happening. As for Anderson he's the worst of the bunch.
