As soon as the lights blew out above the 449 section, they ended the game. I thought there was only gonna be heat lightning the rest of the night, but about 10 minutes later it got more wicked. I just got my pork BBQ and beer, sat down and BOOM BOOM... out go the lights

What would've happened had it been a game that counted? Would they finish it another time? They wouldn't have just ended it like they did last night would they? How would it have affected the standings if they did?

Inquiring minds want to know! :)

They would have waited it out.

The first storm that rolled through hit Ashburn (Redskins Training Camp) around 530. I was chatting with PCS (Park City Skins) when the satellite went out and then the power. All power lines are underground. I have never lost power for more than an hour here.

The storm lasted 20 minutes. The winds and lightening shook my townhome. All my plants outside are sideways. The wind blew my trash can's lid off. You couldn't see out the windows which made it more dark. It was sheer panels of lightening and rain.

Around 750pm the power came back on but unfortunately I didn't have high speed to join in the ES game thread. However, since they delayed the game, the Redskins Pregame show was extended between news and weather reports a Brett Haber. They said that a second storm (located South) would eventually pass and that had massive quantities of lightening.

I am so glad no one was hurt.

I've gotta say that everything was handled exactly as it should have been last night, by all involved.

First of all, I've got to give the Skins, Ravens and the league a lot of credit for trying to get the game in after the hour-long delay. I really felt like they realized how important our teams are to us, and tried to give us our money's worth. I appreciate that.

Second, the referees and the PA announcer did a fine job of getting the seating area cleared when the light bank blew out. Their professionalism kept people from getting hysterical in what were actually a couple of very dangerous storms.

And finally, props to my fellow fans for calmly exiting, and for the most part not taking out their frustration on their fellow fans. (I saw one guy who had been in a fight, but you're always going to have an idiot or two.)

The fact that no players or fans were injured last night was a credit to EVERYONE involved. I was impressed.

I couldn't believe how loud that strike was that caused the lights to go out in the third quarter. We got the heck out of there after that and those of you that were sitting in the upper deck were either very brave or very foolish. I'll let you decide. ;)

I loved the fact that it almost perfectly coincided with Eubanks' hit on the WR. And the lights went out at the same time. Heh. Merriman's gonna lose his nickname. :silly:
