Gibbs insane loyalty to Brunell has got to STOP!

Despite the fact that Brunell has looked horrible this preseason, despite the fact that Brunell has been the worst starting quarterback in preseason for the last 3 years, and despite the fact that he is ancient and coming off arm surgery and got benched last season...and despite the fact that Todd Collins has outplayed him completely...

Joe Gibbs has ALREADY named Brunell the STARTER in Thursday nights game if Jason Campbell is not ready. Now I understand that Mark and Joe are both Christian buddies and that Joe feels like Mark saved him 3 years ago when Gibbs had that insulin attack at the airport, etc etc etc...but this insane loyalty has GOT to stop.

Coach Gibbs: Brunell is through. Everybody in football knows this except you.General managers, coaches, players in fact have so little respect for him that they put 9 guys at the line of scrimmage to stop our run. Its so important it bears repeating....Brunell is through. He is excellent at support for the other 2 guys and I would trust him for a safe 5 yard dump off pass to end the game...but he is through. Nowhere has this blind allegiance been more obvious than in Gibbs ALREADY naming the starter for Thursday nights game...even if Collins throws 3 TD's against Baltimore, Gibbs has given himself an excuse for keeping the door open for his man-crush mate.

Collins is the starter this week. Brunell is the starter next week. They are rotating. Oh and I would guess from this rotation that Collins leads since he will start the more "important" game, and the one which we know Campbell will not be playing in.

If Gibbs were actually needlessly loyal to Brunell they wouldnt be rotating at all. Take a chill pill, we've got bigger things to worry about.

Ummmm. Perhaps this has to do with the competing for the job thing. Perhaps, since TC hasn't started in a live game in nearly 10 years, hasn't thrown a pass in a live game in about 3, it's best that Coach Gibbs makes damn sure that Collins can actually play before naming him # 2. Hell, Collins hasn't played enough to even be told he could be through over the past several years. Brunell isn't the QB he used to be for sure, but at least the team knows what he has to offer and he has at least gotten some real game time recently. Collins is getting his second chance to play ahead of Brunell tonight. As a matter of fact, he is getting the start tonight with the starting offense in what will be the closest thing to a real game all preaseason. Brunell plays in the "get them in and out" fast game. If Collins is going to be the man behind Jason, then tonight is the night to prove it. This is about finding out who is the best man for #2 and that's it.

I believe that the rotation of the backups has been fairly consistant throughout the "practice" schedule.

Brunell, Collins, Palmer one week then Collins, Brunell, Palmer the next. etc.

In fact, if one needs to get "up in arms" about the situation then one might consider the significance of Collins starting tonight's game rather than Brunell whose turn it should have been.

They explained that - someone decided to actually look at their schedule at Redskins park, and they figured out that the last pre season game is in Jacksonville so Brunell should start there instead (because of his history w. the Jags)

Ahh, the homecoming angle.

Maybe a fired-up Brunell will whip-up on 'em and really confuse the backup situation. :D

Hmmm I was wondering if that was actually a factor.

By the way Gibbs also said he expects Campbell to start against Jacksonville, so I do think there may be something to wanting Collins to go against the first string this week.

Forgot about that one. This would mean Mark's pretty much spent the preseason playing with the backups not the starters. Not sure how that plays into an "insane loyalty".

"loyaly"?

So loyal that he's getting the start tonight in the 3rd preseason game which is considered by many the most important game of the preseason in which the starting qb plays at least an entire half. Oh wait, he isn't getting the start tonight. Collins is.

That's right, he may get the start in the most meaningLESS game of the preseason, the 4th and final game.

Boy that's loyalty

Agenda, anyone? Fallacies are your friend

HAIL!

dear friends,

right now our team has a qb controversy. the controversy is over the BACKUP role instead of the starting position. the only way to figure out which qb is actually better in this case is to let them both get a start. in case you forgot, brunel did lead a drive that should have resulted in a game winning score in the last 1:50something last weekend against third stringers just like collins did the week before. you can't blame brunel for not getting the score b/c we had a group of youngs guys pick up a delay of game and then a tough p.i. call.

collins has looked better in my mind, but i would like to see what brunel can still do with the starters. HENCE....a BACKUP QB CONTROVERSY. it really doesn't have anything to do with religious beliefs.
