Burgold
I'm leaving! Ah, who am I kidding? I'll probably find a way to log on a few times... even on vacation  I'm heading out to Vermont. Anyone ever been? What kind of food is Vermont known for? What are some things they do there particularly strangely or well? It's a large family thing, so I've mostly entrusted them with the details and I think it's going to be more of a kick back than active vacation, but now that I'm on the verge of actually going... I want to know more. From past experience, I know there is no inch of the globe that you guys haven't gone. I'm still intensely jealous of that poster who spent a week in the Marianas Trench. Anywho, anyone who's been there please share. Anyone who wants to give a eulogy for my temporary passing that could be fun too (or utterly miserable). I could be Tom Sawyers up in the rafter or Sally Field at the Oscars or worse yet... Scrooge at his own gravesite. Oh, and on the Stadium side, don't let the pessimists win. The 'skins will provide many good memories this season.

gbear
I was going to say aren't they known for cheddar cheese? If you listen to 980, it's hard to not imediately think Vermont Teddy Bears... Is it maple syrup land? As for an eulogy... Our Fridays will be empty with your NPR peaces to tell us it is in fact the weekend in but a few short hours, and the board shall wallow along in it's mundane topics counting the heartbeats till you return. One (thump), two (thump),three (thump)... ... ... Shall we start a bang the drums slowly funeral dirge?

Speaking of that... there will be a new feature on tomorrow about Trains and Children in the DC area. My nephew came to town and his euphoria over anything "locomotive" blew me away... so I pitched it and it's a cute/funny little feature about three places in the DC area where kids and parents can get their train fix. They also let me do a commentary again! Which will probably air while I'm out of town.
milliondollarslim
i spent about 6 days there recently. A beautiful but sparsely populated place. You can take a day trip to Canada. There is a little town called Woodstock (no not that one) that is pretty cool for shopping etc. (it is known for having a high concentration of millionaires). You can't go wrong with visiting the Ben and Jerry's and getting a little history with your ice cream. We stayed in Killington kind of off-season (skiing is the big thing) but it is a beautiful place. Take a gondola ride up the mountain there. Every place you drive seems longer than what is says although it is easy on the eyes.
Dan T.
Smuggler's Notch is on the other side of the mountain from Stowe. Local skiers use Smugglers Notch and cede Stowe to the visitors. Burlington's a nice town I hear, right on the lake. I'll listen for the train piece. Choo choo cha-boogie!

rincewind
Just went last month. LOTS of great hiking if you're into that. And the beer... oh, the beer. If you can get down to the Killington area, stop by Long Trail Brewery - their IPA is my favorite liquid in the whole world (now unfiltered!). Koolblue13
I know what you meant, just felt that SS will always be delicious in any circle. I always considered Sierra to be "the hippy" beer and has now shifted between Magic Hat and Blue Moon. I guess the hippies around here are to broke to afford SS. Dead Guy also gets a vote for being a hippy beer(but wonderfully delicious anyhow).
Xameil
I meant as the new 'hippie' beer. Sierra Nevada >>>>>>> Magic Hat. It depends on which Magic Hat. Sierra Nevada is good, but I'd pick up a Blind Faith (if they still made it  ) any day. Love Fat Angel as well.
The 12th Commandment
When I was a kid we used to go to Vermont every summer. We camped at a place called Half-moon State Park. It was pretty nice but my favorite thing was Mr. Bromiley and the plastic bob sled thing they have. It was sick fun, it's probably closed down from some lawsuit but if it's still there and near where you are it's worth going to.

mjah
You're less than 2.5 hours from Montreal. I suggest a day trip there, with a possible evening extension if you're into nightlife. If you bring family members, choose only those who are good at keeping secrets.
