hoosandskinsMUSTwin
People talk too much smack about Carlos Rogers on this board. This guy is only in his third season in the NFL and people have written him off. Its absurd. Please keep in mind that he spent the majority of his sophomore season face to face with NFL #1 recievers. He constantly had to defend the best that teams had to offer because he played behind Shawn "I pull my hammy running on to the field" Springs. Also, keep in mind that our pass rush was atrocious and by far the worst in the league. So Carlos is stuck on an island, in one on one coverage a lot of the time, against some of the best the NFC has to offer. He is bound to get beat more times than not, he is a young player. Not too mention the run defense was so bad that I am sure that our entire secondary was quick to bite on play action. I think he will develop into a fine player, and being thrown in the fire like that so early in his career in the #1 slot will really help him grow as a player this year. I think he has looked very good in the preseason. His rookie year, he was a rookie. Last year, our D was horrendous. This year, with better healthy talent around him and a better understanding of what it takes to get it done in the league, you will all see that Carlos Rogers will be a very good corner for us for years to come. kevin11
Rogers wasnt even that bad last year. He won us two games.
RedskinDan0557
Hopefully he does well this year and gets a reprieve. For the most part, I think everyone is just tired of losing and it's not particuarly CR's fault, he just gets singled out sometimes.
morpheusmeyers
Thanks for the Carlos nod of approval. I started a post earlier today praising the Carlos pick, but as I thought might happen, it turned into a Merriman rant.
redskins59
Rogers is actually a pretty good cornerback. I am pretty sure Wright and Rumph were the horrible ones giving up all those touchdowns last year. If you all remember, when Shawne Springs came back, our defense actually improved. Against Saints, for example, we played really well. I am not worried about our defense.
Vladimir L
He isnt a bust but he isnt great. Not all first rounders are great he is a more than solid starter.
Santana_Fan
Carlos is gonna be good...and even though it was only one game, he shut down Steve Smith. How many cornerbacks, can say they've done the same? He just needs some glue on his gloves .

For all i care if he shuts down T.O, Plax, Smith, Moss, Boldin and all other recivers he doesnt have to get any INT. I remember Champ Baily when he was here didnt get many INTS. Bang
I've liked his tackling so far in preseason. He's got some Darrel Green in him, not afraid to stick his head in there. ~Bang
kevin11
I was too young to remember green in his prime. But didnt Green have horrible hands too? Yes, he was a punter but being a punter catcher. does require good hands.
mel25
yeah, i think he's pretty decent, but even if he doesn't play as well as we want him to right now, develop him. that's what the coaches are for. give him some time. people get impatient with #1 picks, which is understandable to a degree. but what if rogers makes the same type of progress that ade jimoh makes? if we can make jimoh serviceable, then we should at least be able to make rogers good. DCWarEagle
Good thread. I agree Carlos got some unfair criticism last year. I thought he was excellent (for a rookie) his first year, and I thought he was decent last year. He does miss some INT opportunities, but he usually does a pretty good job in coverage. TheLongshot
I think Rogers gets it from a lot of us because so far he isn't Darrell Green or Champ Bailey. We have high expectations for our corners and Carlos hasn't quite lived up to them yet. Last year was a struggle for him and the secondary in general. Some things he deserved (dropping interceptions) and others he didn't (playing 10 yards off the ball). Jason
terpfan
Carlos hasnt been bad. I think its a little early to call him a "good pick." But I wouldnt call him a bust either.

GOSKINS_08
I like Carlos, I think he can be a shutdown CB some day..People are here are always bashing him, for no reason really..He needs to work on his int's yes, but he does pretty well shutting WR's down..And yes, he is still young. No, Green had very good hands, hence he had over 50 interceptions when the teams threw the ball to the other side of the field.

I remember the Vikings game where it seemed like he wouldn't attack the sweep. Not so this year. With a handle like mine, I am always pulling for the rookie. :helmet: The Rook

I agree he will be better, his physical style fits well with this year's defense. His only problem was holding on to INTs which will improve, i think he'll do fine and is our future lockdown corner. Smoot Point Really
1) I don't believe there is a real Redskins fan who doesn't want Carlos Rogers to be great... 2) Carlos Rogers was flat out awful last year... Be honest... He dropped passes and according to KC Joyner he gave up more 9 yard cushions than any other DB (double the cushions than most). 3) The cushions that Carlos Rogers gave last year speak to his lost confidence... I believe the bad hands were also more "head" related than ability. 4) Hopefully, the guy can turn it around and be the guy we drafted. If he continues to play like last year, he will have been a bust (EDIT: Relative to where he was drafted).
Vladimir L
I remember Baily and Green getting beat deep. Corners play corner because they cant catch usually or if they would be WR.

Your talking about giving cushion, once Springs went down with the collar bone injury and Adam S*** face couldnt get on the field if his life depended on it, all hell broke loose last year, come on people we gotta do better :dallasuck
