Hi Guys. I don't think I'll be improving my public image in the ATN with this post. I'm not sure this is going to be worth the time I'm taking to type it but I've been thinking about it for a while so WTF, here goes...

This place (the ATN) is getting SO boring to me and I'd like to know if I'm in the minority. If I am, I offer my sincere apologies. I'm not trying to "announce my boycott" because I am attached to this place and I'm not self indulgent enough to assume anyone cares whether I'm here or not. I do feel the duty to explain why I'm calling this place a snoozer though, but I'm going to stay vague because I'm not trying to call people out.

I can't possibly read thru lengthy threads anymore because they all degrade into the same one. It's entitled, "You suck! No YOU suck!" The arguments aren't even about football anymore. I completely understand that the obvious misson of some members is to make time here a pain for other members but with all the vitriolic quantity there is very little quality. Good material would save us all a lot of time.

I've been coming here for a few years. Basically it should be called "Around the NFC East" and that's perfectly understandable and likeable. I remember a time (not so long ago) that all the bickering had a "clubby" feel to it. Newcomers would arrive making trouble, some of them would wade through the initiative insults and eventually graduate to "respected rival" status. Certain member rivalries were intensified with sig bets or public gaffs by players from certain teams would get a member on his wheels and it's always been fun to watch those play out. Things are getting sad now, IMHO. It's devolving into an experience that these days is void of anything truly informative or even competitive in a stimulating manner. There are a lot of members who truly check in to see the latest "around the NFL," not the on-going saga of less than 20 guys who harbor a deep-rooted desire to flame each other at every perceived opportunity.

I'm not missing the possibility that these negatively combative elements are WHY the rest of you show up everyday. To a degree it's fun but most things are fun in moderation. I suppose I'm just asking that if this is true, what's the point and don't some of you tire of it? I'm also aware that I have an "ignore" option. I'd use it more often here but I simply don't dislike anyone and would like to get more actual football talk out of all of you. Not to mention articles (the agenda-free ones, admittedly rare) posted that I'd miss by exercising that feature. I can even see where it's all friendlier than I think. I know it used to be, but I doubt that these days. It's too personality and agenda driven. Maybe the thread-clouding banter could be taken to PM?

I'm going to wind this up because I'm sounding whiny. I don't want to leave any more written here that can be used as ammunition for ridiculing me for the rest of this very probably short thread.

How about a compromise on the bet? I do have a shirt with the Eagles logo on it but on the back it procedes to curse off every aspect of your team right down to the plane they flew in on. I just can't display a rival's logo without something derogatory around it.

Chachie I agree the tone of ATN sucks nowdays. Every thread turns into A pissing match, even a good thread will get invaded by a couple people and ruin it.

That is not to say that those posters I pointed out are incapable of having good, interesting threads. If you read through a pissing match there are good, intelligent, valid points, but they are all missed because quality is switched out with volume, and most posters ignore the 20 page pissing matches.

Though I can't say it has ever really been any different...sure it was never day after day of these threads, but WB36 did what he could to start one whenever it was convenient. I guess it would just be nice to have more of the moderete level threads where everyone takes a step back and realizes this is just the internet. Jokes and jabs at teams are not taken to heart as much, and people give consideration to serious points on both sides without resorting to flinging personal insults or simply insults about football teams.

I swear I have seen more grown men on the internet act like children than anything.

I agree Chach - good post. I'm probably part of the problem, and I apologize. I do think part of our job is to give Puke, Iggle and Aints fans a hard time, but it does go a little too far at times.

I will do my part to try and talk football from here on out.

Hello... it is only the Internet, not hollowed halls of ivy having a serious panel discussion... most of the threads are intentionally posted to stir up the other teams fans... by ALL TEAMS FANS

when "discussing" opinions about each other teams most people are passionate and refuse to admit defeat, so it is human nature to try and change the argument away from the topic... and that's when the pissing matches starts.. in fact that is regular poke fa debate tactics... and we have gotten to the point now after so many threads over the months that we skip the preliminaries and go straight to the pissing :laugh:

and it happens in ATN, the Stadium, Tailgate, on Poke message boards, Eagle message boards, etc........... as long as people stay with in the rules set by the board.

and most of the thread is still debate, and it isn't that difficult to have a argument with someone within the thread, separate from the other posts.. do it all the time, and not difficult at all to follow.

My suggestion is to those who don't like the threads that are posted.. ignore them.. and start your own threads and try to moderate the tone and direction yourself. Don't try and make others conform to what you want or think they should post.

BTW suggesting that it isn't mature or others are more respectful etc.... is total BS, any subject a person no matter how well educated, or dignified will always turn into a pissing match when arguing with someone who is equally passionate on the other side... Politics, religion, sports, I have seen people get hot and bothered over gardening

Look I could have a long response but I will just be brief. You and everyone else here are smart enough to know that using other people's idiocy, lack of self control, and disrespect to justify using it in retaliation is wrong. I understand that there are threads that will inevitably turn into a pissing match, and the occasional one is alright. This is the NFC East afterall, and the day I ask everyone to get along and like eachother is the day I stop being a Redskins fan. You should be able to take jabs at eachother, joke, make fun, argue, etc. People around here do it all the time and thats great, I have nothing against that. The only problem I have with ATNFL is when every other thread ends up in a 20 page pissing match. It leaves less and less room for actual discussion. I believe this was the concern of Chachie who started the thread, and I was just agreeing with him.

I will leave you and everyone else to your "fun" if thats what you call it, as I did before this was even a topic of discussion. I was merely voicing my dissappointment that there isn't more substance to the serious threads...and no, 20 pages of calling Tony Romo sits to pee Pro Bowl insecure and having him do the same is not substance imo. The animosity is not what we are worried about. Redskins fans don't have to be friendly and nobody has to get along. The point Chachie was trying to make was that those 20 page threads of good natured ribbing boil down to "You suck!" "no, YOU suck!".

The fun and hilarity sometimes is lost when there is a long thread full of nothing but 4 people arguing in circles. I can't tell you who to blame for it, I can only point out who is frequently involved. I can't say anyone should stop doing it because it's impossible but I can point out that it happens at a frequency that some find to be a little high.

Passion is for the living? Ok. You clearly are a passionate fan, the kind that we need more of sitting in the stadium on sundays. There is a passionate argument/discussion, and then there is a pissing match. You know the difference. Everyone knows the difference.

And yeah, ATN is MUCH more sane then the stadium, which is why I, and others I'm sure, have a personal interest in it staying that way...

first mistake you are making is you consider anything that is not 'serious" discussion as idiocy, lack of self control, and disrespect when more times than not it just harmless fun

again that is "your" problem... not everyone thinks or feels the way "you" or Chachie" does... and since this is a public message board, as long as the threads follow board rules.. so be it... their are tons or threads and posters that I don't like... instead of telling others they need to clean up their act, or how they should behave to meet my preferences.. BTW I really want to see all these 20 page threads of name calling .... in all honesty maybe one or two threads get out of hand a week... there are many more in the Stadium, and I don't even bother with the tailgate for all the heat that gets raised in there.

how much substance does a thread on an internet message board talking about football ( a kids game that people get paid to play for entertainment) merit.... I have seen more serious subject matters get much more childish than most posts on this board :laugh:

I am not advocating name calling and childish behavior, far from it... in fact being a staff member I help police such behavior and report violators of the rules.... but most of the threads you're referring too do not do that... there is a huge difference in having fun, and having a heated debate than having unacceptable behavior that violates board rules tolerated

I usually read the first few posts in a thread and know where it's going. Some threads are good, some not so good. I try to avoid the not so good.

It's easy. Easier than preaching about their wayward direction...
