AmeriplanDentalMan
Making no excuses for the Redskins offensive line or the injuries at QB or wide receiver or Clinton Portis not playing, etc....but the offensive game plan was about as basic as it gets last week. For all the hype that Joe Gibbs and Saunders gave about getting off to a fast start, etc, they sure did their best to show NOTHIN. No reverses, ARE halfback options, no deep balls to Moss, no rollouts to protect the QB, no rollouts and throw back to the opposite side of the field, no Mike Sellers pounding the ever lovin' shunt out of the defense, etc etc. I mean I think we ran 10 plays over the last 2 weeks over and over. And we always run on first down and throw on 3rd and long. very predicatable and very irritating to any Skins fan. I have to believe that there is more to the 700 page playbook than 10 plays and then there is Mike Sellers, who could be a 1000 yard bulldozer if he pounded the ball 300 times...ya know...I am just getting this sneaking suspicion that when Samuels gets back, Portis suits up, and Lloyd gets on the field for more than 2 catches....that we will see a surprise or 2 this season and a very productive offense. hail2skins
I didn't see the Tennessee game, but didn't Campbell have several completions of 20+ yards? And lets face it, we didn't get to see a whole lot on Saturday due to Jason's injury, but the play on which he went down was a nice downfield strike to Cooley. Once Collins came in, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. I'll take what I've seen so far this preseason anyday over the little dump-offs we saw with Brunell far too often last year. heatman28
I couldn't agree more...very boring at best man! The offensive line has been bad especially Jansen! They better seriously look to the draft or FA next season to replace his ass because it's too late now. I know they'll get a little better once Samuels comes back (fingers crosssed) but damn! I'm beginning to accept the proposition of putting Jansen in at LG and moving Wade back to tackle. Jansen could go from anchor to weak link. His age is beginning to show and his injuries will catch up to him in time. I hate to say it, but we could be looking at completely overhauling our line in the next two years. One Shot
I can't figure out the tone of your post. Your unhappy with the preseason but you think that the Redskins will be a pleasant surprise during the regular season. What's the problem?
Hooper
The offense looked fine against Pittsburgh. I think we're going to put up some points this year. And stop with the pure vanilla stuff. Everybody runs a vanilla offense in preaseason. Us Redskins fans just bring it up so much as a way to spin a bad performance.
chipwhich
My only beef with this vanilla tail is that most offenses run vanilla, nobody is scheming anyone. So why do we always choose the vanilla defense?????

Us Redskins fans just bring it up so much as a way to spin a bad performance. Why is it that you think everybody runs a vanilla offense? Have you watched all the games? But regardless, don't try to spin this thread. Its not about other teams running a vanilla or chocolate offense....its about the REDSKINS. Why should I stop with this Vanillia stuff? After all, the Redskins are the ones running it. And don't tell me that EVERYBODY runs it because Joe Gibbs, You know, that guys who runs everything....HE is the one who said they would come out and show more and try to get the offense going. There was all this talk about how last year it was Vanillia but THIS YEAR, well this year was going to be different now that the guys have had time to digest the 700 page playbook. Joe Gibbs words...not mine. So yes it is a bit of a surprise that is has become plow into the line on 1st down every single time. And I have news for you. I am not trying to spin a bad performance. The Skins have a makeshift offensive line and Clinton Portis on the bench, trying to run against the Pittsburg Steelers. Nobody needs to make excuses in that situation...especially since we went right down the field on their first team defense and scored a TD. But it is a bit shocking to see very VANILLA playcalling after the coaches said they were going to change up the way they did things in preseason and they were going to put more emphasis on the starters scoring points. But maybe you never heard that. Maybe you were out of the country.

LoudMouth12thMan
Absolutely a great post. I'd like to add too that it almost seems like the same plays have been run both preseason games, and not only that but each unit be it first, second, or third is running the same plays. It's absolutely as vanilla as you'd want it to be. I can't wait to see everyone jump on this teams dick on Sunday night after the Miami game. This team is performing well in most areas with backups in key spots. That spells trouble for our opponents this year. Great points HTTR

You are spot on. The Skins bookend tackles are aging. Koolblue13
Gibbs is vanilla in the preseason. We knew that and it won't change. It's just the preseason.
mitchie
this is upsetting. i don't think anyone predicted the rapid demise of jansen and samuels. most analysts have our O-line in the top 8 going into this year. so did i. let's hope they get it together. but you gotta remember portis is a ridiculously good running back and teams prepare special for him. w/o him and super samuels there will be a decline. seems to me the only issue is LG and jansen's play. if jansen can get back up to his old self, (maybe he didn't work hard enough on the offseason?), i think we're top 8. we just need to figure out the LG issue. not a minor issue but not prevasive either
mitchie
they should have just let gibbs call the offense. anyone know stats on how long al's former teams took to adjust?

RenegadeTK
its preseason... this is how preseason is. no one wants to reveal gadget-like plays in the preseason bc then other teams will have film of it... thats why we dont send too many blitz packages either everyone calm down.... am i the only one that still has faith in our team after last year?
