throwback37
Really like what I've seen out of Mason so far.. would love to see him get in the preseason games a bit early and see him compete against a starting D or even a 2nd unit (so far, I think all we've seen him agains is the 3rd team D). Would love to see him on the active roster at the beginning of the season, worst case scenario - the practice squad. Don't Let him go!!
Pedro
Pacey, elusive, runs hard, takes a hit, young and hungry, cheap. Perfect depth IMO.
The Rook
He has shown some good things, but hasn't blown me away yet. Every year we have a young hungry guy at RB. Time will tell, but I would be surprised if he makes the 53. I wish him luck though! :fingersx: :helmet: The Rook
jnhay
Blaylock drops as soon as he's touched..he's trung candidate without the speed..he just knows the playbook..the Jets gave him every chance last year..I had him as a bench-fantasy..believe me he has very little upside..and Mason cuts back really well and takes a hit He did have 8 tds in 2004 with the Chiefs. I'd say that's a pretty good upside. The Jets rushing offense has kinda sucked in recent history.

He is definitely the type of player who could tear things up if given a chance to prove himself. Sadly, the Redskins have a history of misplaced favoritism/loyalty to mediocre players who may have a ton of heart/experience/familiarity with the playbook, but not the skills/talent/potential to match. Which is why we have players like D. Blaylock and T. Collins, no-namers from Al Saunders' offense in K.C. Hopefully the Redskins can break away from the current trend and give Mason (a young rookie with huge potential) a contract, and quit being so devoted to mediocre veteran bench players who have been given several years only to show they've hit the ceiling in their potential. Or we can keep letting players like Trent Green and David Akers go on to make the Pro Bowls for other teams.... http://youtube.com/watch?v=2YYyCSlPjq0 Marcus MASON! nace14
i'm all for marcus, but it's tough to tell where he stands. personally, i think blaylock is a waste of time. there is absolutely no reason to keep him over marcus if we do. blaylock is a solid back, but why keep him as a number 3 or 4 over a younger guy with more potential? i'd like to see marcus get a few carries in the first half this weekend. last weekend he kinda got the shaft b/c we never had the ball. he had a few good runs and got stuffed a few times by 50 tacklers before he even got back to the line of scrimmage. he did have a nice 3rd down conversion reception that speaks to his ability to come out of the backfield. personally, he has always reminded me of a westbrook style back even when he was playing at prep. PCS
Mason looked good in the first game,(against some fellows that he should look really good against if he's that good), then used that "good vision" the next game by watching those defenders tackle him for a grand total of about 2 yards a carry,(and that's an average, not exactly how he did). Just haven't seen enough of him to say "wow". Figure if he has that kind of potential, coaches will give him some chances to prove it when they can. If Mason makes it through the first cut, I'd like to see him get a lot of carries in that last game and really see what he can do. So far, he's looked good, but probably just enough to get a spot on the practice squad.

Maybe not exactly, but fair never the less imho. He did okay in 1 game, not so good in the next. Whether or not other RB"s did well is irrelevant for a young man trying to make the team. Certainly one who's supposed to have such a good side. When other RB's don't do so well, that's his time to take advantage. He didn't. As for the blocking, seems to me he did okay on a play where wasn't blocking the first time around. As for cutbacks, they aren't always indicative of good vision. Sometimes backs cut back when they shouldn't. Only the coaches know that one for sure. Now don't get wrong, I'm not hatin' on the man, I just would like to see him do more than he has. 40Gut
I'm not sold on Jimoh. Yea he's not a bad teams guy but he has made some bone head penalties on teams and he's not a very good cover corner. I agree with all except cutting Jimoh. Hes a straight baller on special teams, hard hiter, great punt saver. I would like to have CP, Ladell, Mason and cut blaylock and keep rock for kick returns. As I said, nothing there that makes me go wow yet. the point i was making about other rb's goes back to my original post when i said that it makes no sense to keep blaylock over him if they are playing even, especially when blaylock is putting up just as bad numbers playing behind the 1's. as for his performance in the second game, after watching the replay of the game, mason was getting zero blocking at all, yet was always falling forward. on the few plays where he could take a step before running into his blockers, he made some nice gains. furthermore, he was stepping up in the pass blocking as well (watch the blitz pick up he made on the play that the tight end fumbled). my point is that mason has stepped up and done everything he could. whether or not that is enough, is a totally different question. another thing i noticed at the game on saturday, was that he was standing right next to byner every second of the game. Patrick F.
I like Mason a lot. I also liked Lumsden a lot too. I'd take him over Blaylock who did a great matador job pass blocking. Give him a chance.
KCJDLJ
Keep Mason, on the practice squad. Blaylock will make the team. We keep signing players that Al and Gregg have previously coached for a reason. They can step in and play with confidence. Other than Fletcher none of these guys are ment to be starters just depth. burgngold fan
I would keep mason. He's young and he has quick feet and good field vision. He also hits the hole very hard. We need some young talent on this team. Get rid of all this old ass cats. Thats how you build for the future. Look at the Eagles, Ravens, Patriots. They have a stockpile of young talent. you just hit the nail on the head. time to think about getting a little younger in the back field.
cappun2007
Mason is so young and so inexpensive. He's also a local boy, not to mention an incredible athlete. The risk of bringing him on is well worth the possible reward. Agreed. I would keep Mason and release Blaylock. He knows the system. But he hasn't shown me anything...Mason has more speed. deejaydana
I would like to see more of Mason in the pre-season before we make a decision to keep or cut him. Hopefully we will see more of him in week #3 against the Ravens and their stout defense.
mi6
I like Mason. I like Alexander I like Heyner ... and, as Gibbs said, it wasn't his fall that the QB got sacked. The hit was cheap and for which the steelers ought to be held accountabe by the league.
mcarey032
I think that Mason has some potential. I really liked the way he played against the Steelers the other night. He made nice cut backs. Blaylock. . . he hasn't really done much for me in terms of his ability. I know that Mason is doing this against third string guys, but he doing what he is supposed to when he goes out onto the field and that is perform. I can't say that I am impressed with the rest of the running backs. They need to get their acts together.
