Destino
Kilmer, I don't believe we should be allowed to return after traveling ANYWHERE outside the US. Nor do I believe that mail, phone, or internet service should be able to contact people outside the US either. I've discussed that in the past. MASSHAT. I have named thee thus. Remember, he believes in beating spouses also. He believes in slavery. We can go on and on. I honestly don't know how he even walks out the door. The computer he uses, probably was made in China. The car he drives, unless he finally got a new one- was owned by the Germans until they finally sold it. If he believes in total isolationism; he should not be on the internet. Also, why he a person from Mass. rooting for a team in Washington, D.C. The guys professess his love for medevil chivarly things and express his excitement of something coming up. Yet; I don't remember that being an American thing but a British thing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Understanding him is pointless. He is what he is! We could go total isolationist. Of course, that means we would be back on horseback. Actually, he'd probably love that. Considering we import 70% or more of our oil needs. Yes, we got some oil in Alaska but we'd have to leave the continental U.S. to get there. Got some oil in the gulf of mexico; we'd have to leave the shores to get that. You'd kill the tourism industry, airline industry, etc.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just say he's a man about 400 years out of his element. SUSkinsFan
How about because I believe in the concept of TOTAL isolationism, wherein if you were to leave the US for any reason other that military service during time of war you would not be allowed to return to the US, EVER. So should I cancel my study abroad semester to Europe? Also, before you start goosestepping down the street, can I have time to call my sister and tell her to get back to the US ASAP. She is currently teaching English in S. Korea and would really like to get her back in the US before you lock the gates.

Mass_SkinsFan
And Mass, stop pretending you hate socialism, when you espouse it. Forbidding free trade and mandating American made goods only is undeniably socialism. No, actually it's called ISOLATIONISM, as Larry explained to you. To be totally honest, the policies I'm espousing would be put in place specifically to combat the growth of Socialism in this country. thats quite possibly one of the most idiotic things I've ever read comin from you. Closing your self off from the rest of the world won't spur on cultural/social progress. Who instilled thses ****ty "morals" in you, good god. Cultural/social "progress" is exactly one of the things we should be cutting ourselves off from. Espeically when most of that "progress" worldwide and here in the US tends to be immoral, unethical, and contrary to everything that's good and right in the world. These morals were imparted to me by my parents, grandparents, and my personal interactions and experiences over the last 33 years.

Mass_SkinsFan
Okay, so stopping free trade would combat soicalism? Please explain that to me  It's not just a matter of stopping trade. It's a matter of completely cutting ourselves off from all foreign influences. No foreign travel. No foreign communications. No contact with the world outside our borders, period. Now INSIDE the US, free trade, communication, and association would be retained under the new governmental concept that promoted personal responsibility, not the socialist tendencies our current government allows. By both correcting the socialist policies of the US government and cutting ourselves off from the influences of the socialist societies that surround us we'd greatly improve the society in this country. Jesus effing Christ MsF, just move to North Korea for the LOVE OF GOD!!! Everyone knows you want to live in a fascist state, so save us all the ****ing, pack up your suitcases, move out of the most liberal state in the union, and make the citizenship transformation to North Korea!!!! Their idea of government is directly in line with yours, and their isolationist mentality suits well with yours. You'll be happy as a pig in :pooh: and you will stop your incessant drivel about how this country sucks.

Unfortunately, as screwed up as the US is, it's as close to a proper society as I've ever found on the planet. I just can't deal with the cullinary interests of the asian/oriental societies, among other things.

I knew someone did, and at the time I knew he reminded me of someone and I just couldn't put my finger on it. When I read your post it was like a lightbulb went off. Does American Samoa count? Puerto Rico? Australia? UK? Under my interpretation places like American Samoa and Puerto Rico would be returned to self-government as they have never chosen to actively seek status as States. Waldo, if you had chosen to leave this country to visit anyone, you would not be allowed to return to the US afterwards. Regardless of what country you went to. Additionally, she would not have been able to email, call, or correspond with her parents while living here in the United States.

Regardless of what country you went to. Additionally, she would not have been able to email, call, or correspond with her parents while living here in the United States. Why, what do you care? How does an American citizen visiting a foreign country hurt the Union. What if an American scientist discovers a cure for cancer, would they not be allowed to go and collect their Nobel Prize award? Or, what if a scientist in another country discovered a cure for cancer, under your regime the US would not be able to learn about it. Cutting off all communications with all countries is a horrible idea because many technologies that we use were developed in other countries. Radar was first used by countries in Europe, and lets thank the Chinese for inventing gunpowder, but if you had it your way the United States might still be throwing rocks and looking for enemies with binoculars. Most great achievements in history were because of combined work done by scientists and engineers from different countries. If you had it your way the United States would not have developed Nuclear Power.
shk75
The problem with the Cuba issue in the US is that so little Americans actually know what is going on inside Cuba and why the US has these travel bans. Let me try to clear this up for you. 1. Cuba is a totalitarian state consistently ranked as one of the most repressive states by such groups as amnesty international, human rights watch, etc... 2. There is apartheid in Cuba and the reason the travel ban is in place is because the only way Fidel can obtain hard currency is either from Venezuela or from tourists and Cubans returning to the island 3. He then uses this money not to improve the status of his people but on himself.....Castro is estimated to be worth over 1 billion dollars. 4. When Cubans go back to Cuba to visit their relatives under Castro they are followed and once they leave the families they visited are often fired form their jobs, jailed, or even killed. There are many other reasons and I could go on and on about why this ban is in place, yes some political as well, but you have to understand that it is not "stupid or pointless" to have this ban in place it actually serves a purpose. ACW
Tell me, does the ban+embargo help or hurt Castro, help or hurt the people? Let the goods and travel flow, and at the very least the people will turn against him.
