skinsandgibbsfan
Why couldn't we have released a different linebacker, like Sinclair? Why did it have to be Marshall?
umstew42
who knows, but has anyone confirmed this anywhere else yet?
Smoot Point Really
Redskins.com still has Lemar Marshall on the "Player Spotlight". It's interesting that I don't actually see "Adam Schefter" putting this in writing, but others saying that he is reporting this.
cosmopolitianbloodloss
I guess what people need to think about is, Marshall wasn't TOO great of a player I agree, but what does Godfrey have that Marshall doesnt? He's old and was cut a pretty long time ago, how come no one wanted him? He'll have to re-learn the defense (I know he played for GW but he will still have an adjustment period) Marshall was versatile and a leader on defense, cutting him doesnt make much sense, especially when you replace him with Godfrey, and with Marcus Washington hurting. You speak the truth.
sjinhan
Lemar wasnt really great... he was just a body that we could use to fill in for a game... so i really dont see this has a bad move... if we can get someone who can fill in for a game or two and do a better job i think we need to look in that direction

theTruthTeller
I wonder if this move was made in advance of another move with salary cap implications. Godfrey will only cost about $400k under the cap using the veteran exception. With Marshall's cap hit, that frees up about $600K. Maybe the Brunell trade is for real. darrell1106
DAMN it's true. I would really like to know what happened. I wondered if he wanted a starting position and they allowed him to go. Even so, I would prefer he stay because he is a luxury to have as a back-up. He did lead our team in tackling during our playoff run in '05. Insane! Audible_Red40
Could have should have been a great back up on the roster. Very surprising move. LOL, Godfrey's page is disabled at nfl.com, and he's no where to be found.

darrell1106
Am I allowed to jump to conclusion and blame Vinny. It seems fitting and right up his alley. Also, doesn't the Giants and the Eagles need some linebacker help? I know Trotter was released last night. That would really suck. Lemar knows our defense better than anyone, third to GW and maybe Fletcher.
Audible_Red40
Last news update on cbs (Apr. 07), has him thinking about retirement, that's nice, let's just sign him then. http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/3508 Player News Following the 2007 NFL Draft, the Chargers released veteran LB Randall Godfrey. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Godfrey may consider jobs with the Falcons or Bucs, or may retire. (Updated 04/30/2007).
DrunkenMaster
He must have gone to Gibbs and asked to be released. It is the only thing that makes any kind of sense.

Lemar knows our defense better than anyone, third to GW and maybe Fletcher. Apparently he didn't know it well enough, cuz he got replaced as the QB of the defense and lost out his Strong side battle to Rocky and a guy who wasn't even on the roster until this morning (Godfrey). That being said, i wish Lemar well cuz i thought he played his ass of for us, and the job he did filling in for Lavar a few years back was fantastic and he tried his best to anchor the D, it just didn't work out. Anywhere but the NFC East and i will be a huge Marshall fan till he retires.
