Chump Bailey
Hmm. Not sure if this is an improvement. Godfrey's not a bad LB, but he's older than Lemar and I'm not sure if he is as adept in coverage as is Lemar also. Maybe Lemar's hurt?
Vi
Huh? That doesn't make sense. I mean... Marshall had his difficulties and everything but he had the kind of versatility that our D is always looking for in a backup. I find this utterly baffling. Brandon Lloyd Christmas
hes coming from a great defense, he had 4 sacks last year and he looks to have decent size. marshall was never that good although im surprised he was cut.
panel
Lets not forget that Randall Godfrey is a REALLY good linebacker too, and that we have had MANY guys on the roster step up already. Guys like Anthony Trucks, Dallas Sartz, Khary Campbell, and H.B. Blades are still on the roster, and we can only keep a total of 6, maybe 7 linbackers, and our backups got to be guys that want to play special teams. umstew42
this completely came out of left field. has it been confirmed anywhere else?
Stew
I dont like this move. Marshall could play all LB spots. I dont like this one bit.
Zen-like Todd
Godfrey was with the Titans in 2000 when Gregg Williams was the Defensive Coordinator.
whlinder
Cap reasons? I assume Godfrey will be making the veterans minimum, which is less than 1 million, isn't it? But that's still not a lot of money to save. Very surprising.
SkinsGlory
Yeah, let's release our one true backup at any linebacker spot. Good plan! It's not like we don't have some random lineman to get rid of.

Art
I'll admit to being surprised if this is the case. Marshall was an adequate backup at at least two linebacker positions. The only way you do this is if you are so jazzed about Blades you really feel Marshall's value is limited. Not sure how Godfrey would be able to learn the system and contribute quickly enough for him to be a better value than Marshall. I'll try to find out if this is real or fake . carter23
If true....wow. He's been here a long time, and it would be a huge mistake for team chemistry to let him go. agreed

Popeman38
Let's keep in mind that this, along with Trotter being cut in Philly, comes from the "rumor-mill" portion of PFT. I for one will wait for a reputable source to report on this.
Zen-like Todd
what position does Godfrey play? The WILL or the SAM? He plays the walker. I'm sorry, I meant to say he plays WITH a walker.
C26 Run
This can't be true. Say it ain't so. Godfrey the former Cowgirl  . Haven't learned our lesson yet? Former Cowgirls in the B&G, just don't work. Remember James Washington. :helmet:
riggins44
If this is true, it's possible Marshall wasn't taking his demotion well. The team may have cut him to prevent locker room problems. Plus, we don't have access to films. I thought it was interesting that K. Campbell was first in to replace Washington.
RFK Lives
Hmmm, not sure about this move. Remember how well Pierce communicated the playbook to the G-Men. Looks like those clowns in the front office did it again....what a bunch of clowns. (vague Simpsons reference)
Xero21
The coaches spent all summer talking up Marshall saying he was a versatile and key player on the defense, and that he could be the back up to all LB positions, and then they cut him? AFTER our starter got hurt? I really dont know if I believe this...and if it IS true, I dont understand it.
