philal0102
In the Gibbs presser on redskins.com he talked about the days that they prepare for each game in the preseason... In regards to preparing throughout the entire week, rather than only a few days, he said, "That's probably what I'll do next year, more of a whole week preparation, getting ready for these defenses."(3:06) So there you have it... my guess is that no matter, good or bad season, Gibbs will finish off his full contract. XdcdiehardX
didn't hear that in the PC but i believe he will honor his commitment... i love the man... if he leaves i hope we keep the job in house with Gregg Williams. provided the Defense looks this good all season.. PigSkins
IF he signs an extention, he stays. IF he does not sign an extention, he goes. Simple as that. No Coach (or team) wants a lame-duck coach. (That is a coach in their last year of their contract) and Gibbs is no exception. Thats just good Football business. When he signed a 5 year deal, I knew he would be here 4 years, unless he agrees to an extention. However, that little comment Gibbs made there does indicate they are working on an extention. Siven
It's my belief that if Gibbs thinks JC is the real deal, and if he honestly believes, (none of this super smart fought his guts out bull****) but honestly believes JC can get a lombardi trophy, you can bet your ass hes gonna stick around for the ride. psu2008
He will be back next year to fullfill his contract as long as we don't go 5-11 again. Gibbs seems like a man of his word. After that, I'll hate to see him go, but I think he will go back to NASCAR.
terpfan
He's always said he would be here the full five years. I dont know why so many people doubt that. IF he signs an extention, he stays. IF he does not sign an extention, he goes. Simple as that. No Coach (or team) wants a lame-duck coach. (That is a coach in their last year of their contract) and Gibbs is no exception. You have to end sometime. Why would he leave a year early?

I would say you're right, but if theres ever been an exception in terms of coaches, its Gibbs. Gibbs would accept being a lame duck if leaving early meant breaking his word to the fans (whom he loves the most). That's just how he is. He will be here next year regardless of whether there is an extention or not.

illone
I really think it depends on his health and how well the team does this season. 6-10 with a busted year AND he's feeling poor health-wise, I would expect him to step down gracefully. 10-6, win the East, and win a playoff game, welcome back in 2008. drowland
I dont understand. Are you saying coaches never play out the final year of their contract? You have to end sometime. Why would he leave a year early? It's very rare. Usually they resign or are fired before the final year. Owners don't like the uncertainity it creates surrounding the organzation. Maybe Gibbs is the exception because of who he is, but I believe he'll either sign an extension or step aside.

cphil006
there is absolutely no way of knowing right now. What he thinks as the season goes on is different. We are only wasting our breath by talking about it. Wait till the season is over then lets find out and speculate.

Unless you're wrong, which by the tone of your post it seems you can't fathom the possibility. Gibbs signed for five, told everyone in the world who would listen or who asked he would be here for five. I see absolutely no reason to doubt him. Gibbs was brought here to change the culture, get us off the carousel. Meaning, our philosophy will remain consistent after his five years are up. It's the only way to build any continuity anymore, thru your philosophy and thru your staff. Our next coach is on staff now, be it Williams or Saunders. If he's not, then Gibbs has failed, or Snyder will royally screw up. And after next year, he's going to his office as team President, a position he already holds. It's been the plan all along. ~Bang
Lombardi's_kid_brother
If we go 5-11 again, he shouldn't be asked back. Don't you think that there is a small problem when a coach is this confident that he will coach two more years? Why is this Gibbs' call to make? If he's not, then Gibbs has failed, or Snyder will royally screw up. Or Snyder has shown a little sanity. Why would we want Williams and/or Saunders as head coach in 2009? Neither of them should be a head coach. There is stability and there is stupidity. Heck, why not make Bugel head coach? That would be stability and it would make for interesting press conferences. We would go 3-13 but it would be a stable 3-13.
Loxley
Buges would be an awesome head coach I think but it would be a sly move on GW. I thought there was still the million dollar option on him making it as head Coach. Ok a million big ones is probably chump change to Snyder but a broken promise can cost a lot more.
