don't count out Todd Wade

I still haven't seen enough of him to pass judgment. He was good filling in for Jansen at tackle late last season, but one pre-season game at guard just isn't enough to go on. I'm sure that whoever ends up starting game 1 will do OK because theyll be playing between Samuels and Rabach. I just hope our o-line is able to start fast this year the way they ended last year.

He is too tall to successfully play guard. Now tackle maybe a different story and I would consider him at right if Jansen struggles. If anything, he will be a strong backup T.

Well, we've all heard that he's too tall but I think it's more about being on the opposite side and the fact that he is just trying to get comfortable of there in an unnatural position for him. The height thing is a media thing you're regurgitating. I don't think that's it. I think it's a new position, a different side, and the lack of an experienced Tackle playing next to him. I think Samuels and Wade is a different situation than with Heyer. No doubt Wade played pretty crappy against the Titans but I think it will be a different dynamic with Samuels in there. :2cents:

We'll find out for sure next week against the Ravens. Many people believe the 3rd exhibition game is actually the real dress rehearsal for the season opener. No coach or organization is about to risk an injury in the 4th exhibition game with the regular season opener a week a way. So, for all intents and purposes this week should tell us, pretty much what we need to know about our personnel.............

the Redskins actually have very good depth at tackle with Heyer and Todd Wade and that is the position at which you HAVE to be able to cover on the OL to win.

the Redskins in the past have been able to plug in guys at guard and continue rolling and I think the team can do that with Pucillo if necessary in 2007.

there isn't another team in the NFC East with decent depth at tackle and that is going to cost one or two of these teams down the road.

when the Redskins resigned Wade it was with the understanding that he would be able to get first crack at the left guard job, but it wasn't guaranteed he would win it.

but what Gibbs did by offering Wade the chance to compete there, was to sign perhaps the best #3 tackle in the NFC and that was a very smart move, given Jon Jansen's injury history at RT :)

.

i hope you are right. but i have a feeling you just can't "plug in guys at guard and continue rolling". remember when lennie friedman was a starter? remember when dockery was a rookie? robert gallery as a rookie? not so good. :(

i'm optimistic about wade though. i think if bugel and get him out of robot mode and let him play, we'll be alright. at guard all the action is coming to him, all he has to do is be nasty and understand the scheme.

I haven't given up on Wade yet, but could the answer to the guard problem be Heyer? He is younger and could be a long term solution. He is built better to play guard than Wade and he looks like he could easily pack on a few more pounds if he wanted to. Heyer seems to be doing a great job for the most part so far with the starting O, so I don't think the NFL is too big for him. This could allow Wade to return to backing up the tackles. We still have 2 preseason games to get it right and I just wonder if Heyer could move inside easier. He has not played guard that I can find, but he has always played on the left side and had a left guard right next to him. This would put him between Samuels and Rabach rather than on an island.

I need to see Wade dominate for the rest of the preseason before I will be convinced he can do it. For Wade, the time is now.

the competition should bring out the best in both.... either way, i think a capable guy will be in that slot come week one

i think there is too much being made of wade's height.... if the buge thinks hes using his leverage properly, he will be fine. otherwise he wouldnt be in competition for the spot... despite what many of us like to think, our coaching staff knows a thing or two more than us
