ES COVERAGE: Gibbs' Next Day Presser

08/19/07

:helmet:

It seems like only this morning at 1:00AM I was saying goodbye to you. And now here I am, back for more. We don't want to toot our horn too loudly, but I defy you to find a fan site that puts in more effort to bring people news and information surrounding their team. Further, what we do, we do without pay.

Ok, commercial's over and I am ready for work. We are hoping to get an injury update from Bubba Tyer and maybe pick off some players coming out of meetings shortly. Of course there will be the Gibbs presser.

While we wait, I watched the first half of last night's game this morning. Murf nailed it as far as the play of Rocky McIntosh. He had a terrific game. It seemed that he was involved in most every play. Beyond him the play of the defense was very good. I'll say again the stand at the end of the half by the defense was money.

Last night I told you that I thought Heyer did a good job, and I still believe this. However, the Steeler who hit and injured campbell was his responsibility. Heyer let the defender get past him on the inside.

Here's an important newsbit I left out last night. The price for a double cheeseburger and milkshake at Johnny Rockets inside FedEx is $13. However, according to the cashier it is the best milkshake you will ever have.

Alright, I will be here for questions...

6:40PM Update

I am going to have some audio up shortly. The news is that Bubba Tyer came by after Gibbs spoke and confirmed that Marcus Washington will NOT play this week. Further, Jason Campbell DID have an MRI this morning and his injury is as advertized, a knee bruise. He is day-to-day.

Stand by for audio...

Well I presume that most of you saw today’s presser. Most of the media were positioned outside to try to pick off players when we noticed Gibbs coming our way. As a result we had to scramble to get in position for the presser. I started out a bit discombobulated. With Howard Bryant gone and no JLC today I had the whole front of the coke machine to lean against and I was not used to it.

I felt so naked.

So I think there were two things the press was after today:

1. Injury update on Campbell and Washington

2. Who will start if Campbell does not play this weekend?

We definitely had the first question answered. Gibbs said that Campbell is day-to-day and we will see how it goes later in the week. I’ll point out that Gibbs tends to be very risk-adverse when it comes to his big production guys such as Campbell, Portis, and Moss. I doubt that after surviving the scare last night that he will play him this week. That being said, I asked Gibbs if he will be reluctant to play the starters as much because of the injuries and he said that he will play them as he has been if healthy.

As for question number two we got zippy. Gibbs was asked directly who will start if Campbell can’t go. He replied that they will go through the week and make a decision. You also heard the press ask him questions such as “what made you decide to rotate the backup QBs this year?” This question is a round-about way of getting Gibbs to expound on the quarterbacks in order to get a sense of how one or the other may be looking to the coach (surely there was a reason you decided to do things different this year?). Gibbs again gave a generic answer with no real info.

Another question I asked was in reference to the receivers. With Espy out for the year I wanted to know if this creates opportunities for guys like Pinkston and if we could see him play this week coming. The way Gibbs answered suggested that Espy was one of the receivers they had identified to keep and that now an opportunity exists for someone else. Gibbs did say that the reason we did not see Pinkston this week was that he just joined the team and does not know the offense that well yet.

Gibbs was asked about the stand-ins on the offensive line – first about Pucillo and then Heyer. Gibbs spoke highly of both. Gibbs was askcd about Todd Wade and he said that once Wade is healthy he will again play guard, suggesting that he would again start, and that they will “see where it all plays out.” Gibbs spoke highly of Heyer saying that he had a good game. “He’s a guy that’s made the most of his opportunities,” he said.

With the Washington injury Gibbs said that other guys will get an opportunity to play such as Marshall and Sartz.

At the end of the presser reiterated the need for this team to rush successfully. This is a point of emphasis for the team and Gibbs would like to see better production in that area.

Ok gang, I’m going home to eat and watch the Sunday Night Football game.

I am not sure about the Baltimore game, but I will be ready if called upon.

I don't know about a fan site putting in more effort, but you won't find 2 guys as willing to bust their asses as murf and Jimmijo.

Speaking of cost increases - the price of a beer went up from an astronomical $7 a glass to a ludicrous $8 a glass. WTF?? As if the 1000% increase at $7 a glass wasn't making them enough profit.

I know that's tough when you drink as much as you...

:D

Thanks for your continued efforts JJ.

If possible, I'd like to know who the options are to fill in for Marcus Washington if he's out for any length of time. Is Rocky and option with Lemar moving to the weakside? I doubt that HB can play the SAM in the NFL even though he did @ Pitt so does that leave us only with Khary Campbell and/or the injury plagued Dallas Sartz?

I believe those fan sites have more pride proclaiming their "independence" than actually providing a service.

So I missed the entire presser, because of my A-hole room mate. :hammer:

Did Gibbs say anything about Campbell and Marcus? Did they have MRIs? If so, what were the results?

Please, if you could give me any info I would really appreciate it.

Jason is day to day and MW is out 2 weeks.

Great news on JC. But i think Marcus should just sit out the remainder of the preseason and that would make it likely that he will be fresh for Miami.
