Chris0894
I was reading the traing camp article on redskins.scout.com and thought i should post this...pretty funny lol. Smoot Awards: Now that Fred Smoot is back, the Redskins had their little share of gag awards again. For those who had forgotten: Smoot loves giving out the Tyrone Hill award to the, um, ugliest player on the team. This year's recipient? Offensive tackle Stephon Heyer, who did not seem too thrilled with the ''honor'' when approached by a cameraman. But don't feel bad for Heyer: he won $1,200. There was also the Sam Cassell Award to the player who is sort of ugly. Step on up, Ethan Albright. And the Lifetime Achievement Award for ugliness goes to Phillip Daniels, who won $500. Not sure what Albright got, but it was somewhere inbetween.
ChampSkinsFanatic
lol I saw this on tv, I thought it was funny and it seems like Smoot and Rogers are the best of friends.
RonArtest15
The Ravens do something like this as well...I think theirs is called "King Ugly." For some reason no one can knock off Terrell Suggs LOL....he's building a dynasty
HitStickTaylor21
this is a prime example of why I'm so glad Smoot is back in Washington. It's so much more than his on the field stuff. He always has something funny or interesting going on with the team. Love it.

He will have a Lavar type intensity in the lockerroom so he'll be hanging out in the training room and talking about how great he is to john tompson every day? BigMike619
i agree, smoot will be quite the intense trash talker in the locker room. but he needs to secure a spot on the starting roster before he tries to influence anybody to play better. CPortJGibbs89
I saw the interview with Heyer on comcast. Maybe I took it the wrong way but I dont think he was to happy about winning the award. He kept saying he was going to take the money and buy something stupid with it. I know its all in good fun but I know I would be pretty down on myself if I was given that award.... Oh well but like others said Smoot brings a swagger back to the D that was missing last year and him and Carlos seem to have become best friends. TLusby
This reminds me of when I was a Cadet. We had fifty guys go to Cadet Flight School over the summer between our junior and senior year of college. They had a formal dinner whereby they set-up each Cadet with a local girl as a date. We all lined up on one side of the ballroom and they called our names out and we came to the front and met our dates. All the cadets put $2 (1983 was the year) in a hat and the Cadet who received the ugliest date won the $100. There were two married guys who did the voting. The story ends with.....I came in second which means I had the second ugliest date and I received nothing! It really pays to come in first! nace14
some of you guys dont realize how big Lavar was to the team intensity on the field oh i realize, and i was a huge lavar fan, but when the guy played for us all we did was lose and all i heard was him complain about how things affected himself and never about the team. if i have any knock on lavar it's the fact that he put himself above the team, and i admit that part of that reason was that the organization pumped him up that way and all but forced him to with the whole "face of the franchise" bit; however, i think smoot brings something completely different to the locker room than what lavar brought and if lavar had some smoot in him he never would have gone done the path he ended up going down. RenegadeTK
so he'll be hanging out in the training room and talking about how great he is to john tompson every day? haha.... i loved lavar though. he was such a presence on the field.... whenever he was actually healthy enough to get on there yeah, i think smoot will be real big when it comes to the locker room and intensity/having fun on the field SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! All we did was lose? Cause a linebacker wins you games all the time? We lost cause our offense sucked.... our coaches sucked.... etc etc If LaVar had some smoot in him, he wouldn't have got injured.
