Owens Late for Practice

T.O.'s tardiness has been handled

Wade Phillips was asked during his post-press conference chit-chat about T.O. strolling onto the practice field about 20 minutes late this morning.

"We had a player late for practice, and it's been handled," said Phillips, choosing not to refer to the star receiver by name for the first time. "I don't discuss who is, who isn't. You guys find out all that stuff."

Phillips tried to take the focus off T.O. by sharing a story Charlie Waters told him about being late for a training camp practice. The electricity went out, but Tom Landry didn't want to hear it. He fined Waters and the other late players and informed them of the value of backup batteries.

"There's no excuses for any players," Phillips said.

Not even for The Player with warm-and-fuzzy Wade in charge.

 Now Wade understands why Bill referred to T.O. as "the player". :applause:

Soon enough he'll understand why Bill retired as well

On Aug. 4, an irate Phillips cussed out his team on the field after a handful of players arrived late for a special teams walk-through practice. At that time, the coach made it clear he wouldn't tolerate anymore disrespectful behavior.

Three days later, Thorn, a former undrafted free agent who should've felt lucky to be in an NFL training camp, missed curfew after Phillips gave the players the evening off. A day later, Phillips cut him. Then he told the players not to talk about it publicly.

Message sent.

Pity the next player who mistakes Phillips' kindness for weakness....

...Trust me, the players won't take Phillips for granted again. They've seen up close the heavy price Thorn paid for his mistake...

Yeah, uh huh... :)

It's always something with Owens. But at least he is practicing - which is more than Santana Moss or Brandon Lloydd are doing at this point.

:dallasuck

Except that both are practicing.

They should just cut Owens now as an example.

:D

Wasn't Owens one of the guys that got up and spoke to the team about personal responsibility after Wade's last tirade about late players? I guess the rules don't apply to him.
