dieselfan44
I will be moving into a new home soon and want to make sure that I set up my system in a way that is both cost effective and serves the purpose I need. I have a den (skins war room) that will have an HD DVR reciever. In my living room I would like to have a regular reciever. In my two daughters rooms and my bedroom I would also like to have a regular reciever. Directv however views their recievers much the way I would a gold brick. They want ridiculous fees for extra recievers. I do have one regular reciever from my old house which will help. My question is if I have a reciever in my living room can I run a splitter and have directv in my bedroom and my daughters bedrooms, and be able to watch different channels in each room without having a reciever in those rooms. I know I probably won't have an on screen guide in those rooms and the other advantages that a reciever gives. I know with cable you can simply run another cable line to a room and simply use the remote that came with that television to change the channels. Directv however has mostly three digit channel numbers and most TV's only go up to 99. So will a standard TV remote allow me to change directv channels in my additional rooms without a reciever...... Damn I think I have confused myself. Any shadetree electricians out there that can help with some advice
Raub
You won't be able to watch different channels without different receivers. Check into DirecTV's Movers program. They will install DTV in your new house for free and should give you the receivers. I've never paid for any of my DTV receivers and I have 2 HD receivers and 3 regular receivers. Kosher Ham
I think you are going to need the receivers. And they charge 5 bucks a month extra for them.
smashmowf
Ditto...no reciever....no "different channel" capabilities.....but hey put a reciever in your room and split the signal into each daughter's room anyway, you won't have different channels in 2 of the rooms...but you'll have some awesome 'parental control' capabilities..lol...good luck.
