Not sure anyone has heard of it but the Rubgy World Cup ( ) begins in less than a month. I watched England France this weekend and I can't wait. NZ will surely win this one but the show will be great.

For those who don't know much about rugby, watch this The animal . I think he would make a great linebacker btw. :dallasuck

I've gotten into it when I lived overseas. Not 100% sure NZ will win it this year, but seems everyone else is down.South Africa is really down.

Yeah it may not be the best NZ team ever but I can't see anyone challenge them. The only teams I could see threatening them are Ireland, France or South Africa but none of them have the talent. Australia and England are a notch below but hey they always find a way to win however ugly that may be.

English rugby is the definition of 'winning ugly'. :)

how crazy would it be to see sean taylor hit somebody without pads on?

Probably bad, the way ST hits people, he needs pads for his own protection. most people who play rugby who are football players end up getting hurt making stupid hits and tackles.

That's not true at all. :) Tackling in rugby is less violent most of the time, because you're not allowed to leave your feet or just throw yourself into someone - you have to wrap up.

Most guys who play rugby in college were football players in high school who just didn't make it to the college level - so by your hypothesis, EVERYONE ends up getting hurt.

:paranoid:

Wait....you might be on to something.

New Zealand are IMO about 85% to win. South Africa 10% (based on their record against NZ only, they can be beaten by the Aus/Fra/Eng type teams) and Australia/France the rest (Aus are performers when it matters, Fra on their day at home can beat anyone, but can lose too). Eng will do well to make a semi. Ireland don't have a chance, nor do any other team not mentioned in my post.

I'm a big Kiwi fan, and you can NEVER rule out the Aussies, or the Springboks when those three play. I can't see England winning again, and France, I just don't know. I think the winner will be one of the Tri-Nations.

I umm disagree with ya a bit on the less violent. I think it actually is about the same because of the way we hit. When you wrap, you are getting the full hit at full pace, when you throw yourself you already start to lose some pace, not to mention power. On that note, from the foreigners I have talked to, American Ruggers tend to hit a tad harder. Don't know how true that is, but I have heard it several times.

OK, completely off topic now...kinda.

I want to try and set up an ES rugger trip for next year to the Can-Am tourney up in Saranac Lake, NY. It's a HUGE tourney (100+ teams last I checked of men, and women) at the beginning of August. Could be a great time, and I know there are always teams looking for whores (for all the people who have NO idea, a whore is someone who is picked up on gameday). Always a great time, but we need to start planning now. Hotels usually sell out for the event 6 months in advance.

Here's the link to the website.

Can-Am Tournament

If ya read the history of the tourney...my club Albany Knickerbockers was one of the inaugural 8 teams that played. :)

I played for 4 years in colleg enad am heading to chicago to watch the Eagles play a German club team for a RWC warmup. A guy I played with in college, Paul Emrick, is on the Eagles.

Always willing to talk rugby with guys who are following the sport. Keep the thread ALIVE!

Are you going to the Rugby Sevens in San Diego in February? Or the game in Chicago on the 26th against Munster?
