Madden 2008 -- Reviews Coming In

I still prefer the old gen style of play to a degree and can still absolutely mop up playing against anyone on the PS2 if I need to. However, I'm not really gonna knock next gen, either.

The controls are different, the feel is different, and in some respects it has a more "real" feel to it (but it also has a lot of flaws the last gen doesn't have). I will say that EA did half-ass the PS3 version in some respects... they clearly didn't put a lot of effort into optimizing the game for the system and they're still trying to clean up their online set-up. However, the whole framerate/choppiness thing hasn't been a huge problem for me thus far and I can't say I'm entirely disappointed by the final product.

The Wii version is... well, a Wii game. It's exactly what you'd expect and its exactly the reason why I will never buy a Wii.

IGN reviews for x360 are up: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/812/812241p1.html [8.7/10]

I played it Monday night on x360 and I have to say it is great and is worth every penny. Read the review for yourself. The only thing I disagree with is them raising a big stinker about the fumbles. I played through 8 games co-op in franchise mode and Portis may have had 3 fumbles total and 2 of them were reversed upon challenging so I don't get where they are coming from with that. I did have to turn down the interception sliders as usual, though. Other things they complain about include presentation and play-by-play. Personally I could care less about that, I just want fun gameplay.

Overall it seems to feel like the PS2 Madden games from 3-4 years ago. Really fast and really smooth. It's worth it at least on x360 guys. I'd give it a 9.0 out of 10 just for the gameplay aspect-it's not perfect, but will video game football ever actually be like we watch on TV? I highly doubt it.

It has it's good sides, but this game is turn over happy.

3 times I fumbled the kick off return, and I was hitting RB to protect the ball.

He picked the bengals and Chad Johnson had 7 catches for 315 yards.

He caught every thing, sometimes in tripple coverage.

CP fumbled twice.

All this in one game.

It was the same in practice mode, lots of turnovers.

I like the interceptions part, that's how it is in the NFL, you have to throw the ball away.

But all those fumbles, even when you protect the ball consistantly is just too much drama.

Santana Moss broke 4 tackles in a row......impossible.

The game feels great other than that.

It's faster and smoother, it just needs to be fine tuned. Which is something they can do with an update download.

for overall game play ironically enough the ps2 beats both the 360 and the ps3 this year again.....

I don't care how pretty the players look if the gameplay is SLOW as dirt......

I'm gonna try the Wii soon.....maybe that is better

I like 07 on the gamecube way better than on 360. Gameplay was smoother and thats what counts.

question for anyone who has played this on the 360. I plan on getting it soon, but I'd like to know one thing. Are we able to edit rosters and players? I know on last year's 360 release, Cooley was listed as a FB and I couldn't change it...or jersey numbers...or anything else. How customizable is it this year?

You can't change positions(I tried to make an adjustment to the Panthers roster to accomodate Minter retiring), but you can edit stats and equipment. Good news though, Cooley is actually a TE this year and Yoder is 2nd team.

The Redskins are awful in the game.. or maybe i"m just that bad.. Still bitter they can't get the Redskins socks right or that the home color is white, not red. I think redskins are the only team that madden gets details wrong about again and again...

the skins are good IMO.. i might have to lay a whooping on u

whats your point??? madden is leaps and bounds above all pro football/ the nfl 2k series

all pro football wasn't very good because of the game modes, not gameplay.

there's a reason EA bought the license, nfl 2k was becoming consistently better than madden and cheaper, dangerous combination for EA to deal with.

This is gonna quickly delve into a Madden vs 2k debate, I can already tell.

So are the turnover probems that bad? My 360 is getting shipped off to get fixed  so I haven't played it yet...

yeah the turnovers are a problem, i was playin on all-madden and managed to get 4int's in one quarter

Well I just got a 360 in a ;) barter situation.... I got the 20gb hd, 2 wireless controllers, Tiger woods golf, ghost recon and of course I picked up Madden08.

I am coming from 06 and 07 on PC and I'm dissapointed so far. I really like the PC graphics better but oh well. What happen to camera angle view???? Not liking the default. Played on game in rookie mode and won like 56 to 7 against Dallas.

Controls changed a little from the ps2 setup I've been using on PC to xbox360 so I was a little and am still a little confused. I guess I'll get used to it but I liked it on PC alot.

I hope xbox live is better than the EA online for PC. Haven't hooked it up to live yet, maybe over the weekend.

i read a review of someone that got the game early, and he said that the 30FPS is blown way out of proportion... he said that the game ran smooth... so if 30fps was smooth then 60fps has to be mega-smooth... basically, i was happy to hear that, 'cause i was worried at first to pick up the ps3 version and was thinking about skipping madden this season for the first time in 7 years... :applause:

It's blown way out of proportion because every current gen Madden has been 30 fps up to this point. With 60 fps you won't get any slowdown, and the play on the field is going to look smoother. It's not like going from xbox graphics to 360 graphics, it's just how many frames are shown in a second. More frames = smoother gameplay.

Yes...

(expect a lot of "wtf" and "omg" moments, lol)

That would probably be my only complaint about the game.

Sunstone...

What NFL are you talking about?

Perfectly thrown, perfectly placed balls are routinely intercepted in this game.

Ok, I got madden yesterday.

It sucks.

The end.

Seriously, I've always called it like I see it. All Pro 2k8 is not a perfect football game, but it is way more realistic than Madden. Maybe if I hadn't played 2k8, I'd like this years madden, but oh well.

If anyone wants to buy my 360 copy and save 15 bucks, let me know.

If it was perfectly thrown, in the perfect spot, it would be impossible to intercept it.

Either the reciever is open and you throw it to him, or he's not and you hit the dump off man or throw it away.

You use to be able to throw to a players who were covered tight and not worry about int. but now you have to look.

The game has a lot of good points, but it's broke.

I lost a lot of respect for the 2k series for football when I broke 8 tackles in ONE PLAY with a RB. It was absolutley rediculous. By half time I had more broken tackles with my RB than you should have in a season. Madden does have problems (which games dont'?), but I'll take it over 2k.
